Great dragon grades. I have no notes. Honestly, I was very pleased with the dragons in this series. The design was great. The CGI in many shots was some of the best I have seen. Now, I have to watch season 2.
Nice video guys but Im gonna go ahead and put Caraxes on top on this list, and I'll explain why using your guys metrics (excluding special effects) and inserting some F&B lore. 1- Design: In this world that GRRM created, the dragons come from the old empire of Valyria (Rome but with ethics of the 3rd Reich) and are a product of Blood Magic and genetic tampering. So Caraxes is unique because of the 2 creatures Wyverns, Firewyrms it inherited the snake-like neck of the firewyrms, therefore it gets a A++ on uniqueness. The shape of its head is of the "hunter/warrior" type and its pointy nose and two single horns really match together in the blood red of its scales all of this in a V shape to maximize the aggressiveness of its nature. Superb 10/10 2- Character: Caraxes was known for being a cunning dragon, fiery temper and of course unmatched aggression. When dragons bond with a rider (in this world) its like a metaphysical handshake, or something close to it, so both rider and dragon adapt and mold into each other. In EP10 when Daemon sings a song to Vermithor (you can find a translation and analysis videos on yt) he aludes to this merging of characters (its really a three-way of consciousness) with that in mind you can see that riders and dragons either pull back to their previous personality or go full throttle into it. Daemon is a explosive character to say the least and matched with Caraxes who came from a previous bond with Rhaenys father (Aemon, his uncle) who is described as "serious, cautious, careful and obedient" Caraxes found in Daemon, and vice versa, this literal fire to go out and cause havoc. So for me, knowing all that, I put Caraxes character at 9/10 because hes finally matched with a like-minded rider. 3- Media: How not to give max score to Caraxes here since hes pretty much spearheading the only war on the show (SO FAR) and its pivotal importance to the story. The showrunners didnt do it justice by having so little screen time, and in favor of drama kept the dragons as a backdrop but they are the single most important thing of this dynasty the show is based on, go figure. Therefore I rank Caraxes 8/10 4- X-Factor: 10/10 No doubt, Caraxes is the epitome of a dragon in this universe, excluding sheer size. In this show you can see the bond of him with Daemon is excellent - if you go back to EP3 on that sequence at night, Daemon doesnt need to say "dracarys" or command tailwhips (angōs), both are so locked in purpose (in this case HUNT and kill Drahar) that he just lets loose while searching and burning pirates, simply amazing. Still in that sequence, when Daemon sees the flaming arrows getting launched at him he simply raises his arm (and his left leash) and Caraxes raises his wing providing cover and proving once again his bond to his rider is on another level. Daemon gets hit with an arrow and the hit is also felt by Caraxes, which quickly turns around and fly away without a verbal command (sōvēs) banking on the bond alone to make decisions that most dragons would only make when commanded - this will play out a lot in the future in combat situations. Another HUGE x-factor in favor of Caraxes getting a max score is that his flames burn hotter than other dragons, including Vaghar. It's said that dragon flames get hotter and fuller as the dragon gets older, However Caraxes is not that old and thanks for his breed and variant (combat, firewyrm-like) his "fire-glands", if we can call it that, are quicker to combust thus having a devastating effect on target. On EP3 you can clearly see him blowing off a guy from his boots (literally) with dragonfire alone. Come season 4 (if show keeps this pace) you guys should definitely run this again, there are some amazing dragons who will steal the show and dragon fights alike (first dragon fight for real we'll get to see on s2e4) im very anxious to see how the showrunners will make the dragon fights described in the books in live action.
We love this! And don’t you worry we intend to do a Lizzy’s and dragon at the end of each season! I love that you giving us some of the behind the scenes lore! And if they made that known it definitely would affect his score. But we do hope that the show runners include a lot of this lore you showed. Bryce mentioned the connection Daemon has with Caraxes a little bit he definitely should have dived more into it. Caraxes still scored pretty high! He definitely should have been in the show more because Vhagar seemed to steal the spotlight after episode 6. But don’t worry we will do another rating system at the end of season 2!

My biggest issue with the show isn't necessarily the shows fault since there's tons of story to be told and not much room for much else, but the dragons don't really have any personality exploration. The riders never talk about their dragons, never have any meaningful moments with their dragons one on one etc. The dragons honestly feel no different than horses in this show.
We totally get where you’re coming from. We really hope we get to see more development and more interaction with the dragons here in season 2 but there’s also so much content to cover.
This is such a fun way to score dragons and I’m so curious to see how other series’ dragons hold up in the rankings. I also reeeally appreciate how far y’all have come with pronunciation. Meleys was killing me 😂

tips for Bryce to pronounce the valyrian names in hotd (generally): if the name has 2 syllables, emphasize on the first one (Meleys --> MAY-lees, Laenor --> LAY-noh). if the name has has 3 syllables, emphasize on the second one (Caraxes --> kuh-RAK-sees, Jacaerys --> juh-SAIR-is, Viserys --> vuh-SAIR-is). there are a few exceptions, like I've heard ppl on the show saying ruh-NYS, not RAY-nees (Rhaenys)

Caraxes is such a cool dragon. What won me over was his unique roar; that screech and his whistle are just eerie.
Majority of Vhagar's screentime definetely came from that claiming in episode 7 by Aemond.
