Joe sound like he is gaslighting Lupe throughout this interview (not in a vicious way). Lupe went through hell and still does because he stood for something great and has a purpose bigger than himself.

Lets be real. like I remember when pump it up came out, I'm pretty sure I was a freshman in highschool, like in the middle of it. When everyone was bumping shit. All me and my friends did was drive around, smoke weed, get drunk, and bump beats. Listening to Joe Budden is like listening to fucking Uncle Rico after awhile. Joe was never popping. Back then it was like 50 and eminem and other shit coming out. Actually if I recall Joe was riding off the coattails of guys like D-12 and Obie Trice and shit like that, and those guys where riding off the coattails of guys like 50 cent and Em.
He wasn't even in consideration, like I don't know anyone who liked that song, it just gets stuck in your head because its so simple. To be honest me and my friends thought it was corny. We never listened to that type of shit. No one really did but the shit just kept playing on the radio I don't know anyone who really liked that track, they just knew about it. Joe got some kind of push and failed, it is what it is. There were always "one hit wonders" that would be obscure videos they played on MTV and shit, back then. Joes video was the one that you got tired of hearing all the fucking time cause honesty I think it sucked I think a child could make that track. That's just my opinion though, it was on air for some reason or another.
