Resurrection of Evil is the beginning of the end of the Painkiller series , well actually Overdose was a bit of it but was an okay game . Future titles will only get worse. It all started when Peoplecanfly sold the rights to the series and external creators had assets ready but they didn't know what makes Painkiller so playable, that's why in Overdose you can feel that the pace and gameplay in general have degraded, but Midas Studio at least artistically and technically tried. Other publishers squeezed money out of the increasingly forgotten series . In Poland, from the country where I come from and the Painkiller series, hardly anyone remembers and only recently knows the work of Peoplecanfly it hurts the heart that Painkiller is not remembered as the Witcher or Dying light. Thank you guys for this video about Painkillers is very nostalgic to me .
Probably the last nail in the coffin for me while playing this game was the final boss fight which just included already existing enemies. For Ramiel they just reskined a standard golem and for Astaroth they just reskined Alastor. The Devs just got more and more sloppy with every Painkiller release.
I was one of the unfrotunate souls to beta-test Ressurection before release. Hellscape doesn't even begin to describe it. Also was a tester for Reccurring Evil (I don't think they fixed much of what I reported) but that has some redeeming qualities at least. Redemption is just a glorified fan map-pack with an overly bloated enemy count on repurposed MP maps but it isn't aggressively awful like Ressurection is (or was on release)
Some other cool games that have the Painkiller style (wild enemy designs, apocalyptic settings) that were considered "bad" back in the day are NecroVision, You Are Empty, Serious Sam 2 but it seems like now people have warmed up to these games. A newer game that I haven't tried yet but kind of reminds me of Painkiller is Necromunda: Hired Gun.
Necrovision is awesome I love it, You Are Empty (I really enjoy this game) was reviewed at the time by morons who wanted COD clones, that's why Civvie and Jarekthegamingdragon had a lot of good to say about it in recent videos, and Serious Sam 2 is considered the weakest Serious Sam game, but not a bad game in general (I still enjoy it)
The most interesting thing to me is just how massive that third level in the valley is. I got lost for so long and it felt like someone kept adding and adding and adding a bunch of sub-areas that lead to completely pointless dead ends but there's clearly a ton of effort and passion in it. I kind of want to see the megafix version to see if they railroad it any better
This game doesn't deserve such hate. I'd say - its pure kino. A lot of complaints are just a skill issue. The game was made by Painkiller fans, for Painkiller fans, not an average gamer. Its pushing quite a lot of limits of the original game design. I really disagree that this is not about run, jump and shoot. You can finish the last level on trauma easily by doing just that and ignoring pretty much all the enemies if you want. The megafix is just the dumbest thing i've ever seen, its like its made by someone, who never played Painkiller. Sure, its outdated, but its Painkiller.
Hey GP, I've been binging your vids all week (just found you guys last week). Love the quality of your videos. I know you have it mentioned somewhere that you don't stick to any one genre or type of game, but I notice a lot of FPS and action games being reviewed more-so than other types of games. That's fine, I have similar taste. I was wondering if you guys ever take requests to consider, from your audience? Also if you guys have a discord, I'd love to join. If not, why not make one? I saw you have a steam group but I think discord would be much cooler personally. Thanks for another quality vid!
Heads up the fix for the load screen crashes is enabling/forcing vsync & locking framerate. Basically the game won’t load properly/fully unless you do as it’s tied to framerate.
JoWood (who owned Painkiller IP at the time) majorly screwed Resurrection devs over by releasing an unfinished version, just so they could try to avoid their sinking company plummeting to the bottom even faster. Kind of ironic, that this game has a level heavily inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Curious to see if you would review Dreamkiller, a similar game made by some of the Overdose (afaik) devs.
this game would've been more neat if the enemies you fought in Purgatory were the spirits of your innocent victims as well as the mobsters, like a metaphor of fighting guilt and then making things right
Row., this looks... rough. Fortunately, on my book, just the original game and first expansion count, so the rest is just passable. You should play the whole Ys series, as every game is a gem on its own (except 5... never really played that)
@GamingPastime Oh I,didn't know I won something and it was selected in a contest you were organizing. Loved how you reviewed this crap. What's next, when I wirte back. I have to wait for a reply.
Hey, I've recently buyed the complete pack and found out about this, but I'm not here to rate it instead I'd like to know why on my other Steam games I have like over 300fps and in this game max 20 after I exit the game's menu, help! = EDIT; The edit would be that another one which is Recurring Evil and Redemption has the same problem too...

Glad to see you guys are covering this one. It's simple but fun.
I miss FPS games with this style.

Necrovision is clunky weird game i enjoyed part of it but was not worth finishing
you are wrong to think that they were only considered bad in the past. they are bad
Great review, thanks for suffering through this for us, fam.

Thanks, great video!
Oh boi, Recurring Evil next xd
Be sure to check out Mindkiller (made by Overdose devs) and Necrovision (HD devs). They might not be part of the same series but they go hand in hand.
Where do I find it?
wasn't it called Dreamkiller, not Mindkiller?
@@blueshit199 yeah you re correct. My mistake. You were some girl who goes inside people s nightmares
@@xyzz8722 yeah, it even had the chaingun+minigun weapon
You should review Halo Infinite next.

only three games left. Looking forward to seeing you rip into redemption and recurring evil lol. hell and damnation is good though
this game would've been more neat if the enemies you fought in Purgatory were the spirits of your innocent victims as well as the mobsters, like a metaphor of fighting guilt and then making things right
the only one i couldn't bring myself to finish
lol, ı was looking forward to playing painkiller expansion packs but they seemed to be underwhelming.

I beat the game without using the fix patch and had a great time and in my opinion it's not a bad game but an interesting one

That was a bogus account spamming the channel. Sorry, friend.

nothing happened thanks for the info
Good luck, it's only downhill from here on.

EDIT; The edit would be that another one which is Recurring Evil and Redemption has the same problem too...
Despite it's faults I have a ton of worse games in my library that were recommended to me as good.
