How is it the vet's fault that the owners didn't read the possible side effects? All medications have side effects. Many flea, tick, heartworm meds can have neurological side effects.

anything can have side effects that are quite rare. There are a few ppl who would die if they took one aspirin. All the best to you!

@@reactivepall3589 it is a vet's place to give options and information, not to make choices for a client. Every substance including homeopathic remedies, which do not work for prevention and control of ticks and fleas for the entire cycle, have possible side effects. All flea and tick preventatives, like anthelmintics have possible neurological side effects. This has long been known by anyone who has dogs. It would be on the owner to know the correct and responsible husbandry, and knowing what the possibilities are that they're exposing their animals too. It is absolutely no different than human medicine. I have never had a doctor discuss possible side effects of a medication. When I personally experienced a serious side effect, after starting a new medication. Symptoms which mimic a heart attack, sent me to the ER . I was personally responsible for knowing the side effects, at no point did the physician or pharmacist relay any of that information.

@@reactivepall3589 incorrect. A vet's job is to offer options and give any information needed to aid a client in making a decision. Husbandry is the owner's responsibility, and preventative medication is a pivotal part of husbandry. All flea, tick and most heartworm preventatives, and anthelmintics have neurological side effects. This is common knowledge to anyone owning a dog in the past century.
If you give your pet a medication without reading the instructions and warnings, that is your personal responsibility, not the prescribing doctor.
There are no homeopathic remedies that control ticks and fleas, and prevent their lifecycle. Not to mention that homeopathic remedies can have equally severe side effects, depending on the individual, their history, their condition, and from combining with other substances and compounds.
I have never had a GP or specialist, discuss side effects of a prescription, and neither has any pharmacist.
