I love that Dr Craig have , what seems to be, the skull of an early hominid on the book shelf 😄 Respect👊🏻 Every intellectual should have at least one skull of some kind in their study.
One problem with Craig's initial response to why Christian numbers are dwindling, is it doesn't account for one of the main reasons that people are leaving. The internet has made and continues to make our world smaller and smaller. Information is available at the fingertips of virtually anyone who has a question. Academic journals are easily accessible. People are examining their religions with respect to science & frankly many times end up at a point, after introspection and deconstruction of the religion they were "born into" and many are discovering that "there is no need for a god/gods hypothesis."
His statement was too polite. He implied that the deconverts primarily leave churches that have already left Christian faith. I have a different take. Most “Christians” have no idea what it means to become a Christian or have never become Christians through a personal conversion. When I was 18, both of those causes described me. I grew up in a mainline church that has abandoned biblical faith and values, and I took it for granted that irrelevant factors such as being baptized, being in churchianity, and being a conservative American made me Christian. But my government education had unraveled those threads to the point where I was “deconverting” from a faith that I had never personally embraced. That “deconversion” was necessary. You cannot join a group if you are deceived into thinking you are already part of it. (There is no such thing as a former Christian; but there are plenty of former false Christians.) Deconversion shows people that they are not Christians, so it is a first step for false Christians to become Christians. That makes it a good thing.
"after introspection and deconstruction of the religion they were "born into" and many are discovering that "there is no need for a god/gods hypothesis." On the contrary... the God hypothesis is more necessary than ever. The naturalist's alternative is to maximize brute facts (which exist without explanation) and infinite coincidences, all of which must be believed by blind faith,
If you think about it, the disciples, never mind the public, would have known where Jesus was buried. Anybody within reason could have produced the corpse, including the disciples if Jesus wasn't raised. Why would these men and women proclaim a lie that could get them killed?
I literally had a discussion with 3 skeptics last night about the moral argument. They rejected it on the premise that morality is a relic of biological evolution. And that had biology evolved to make us believe killing others is a good thing (biologically advantageous) then it’d be morally acceptable. And that our conditioning makes things right and wrong. What’s frustrating is that in the past I have agreed that the moral argument is the most effective. At least until I had 3 people at the same time say the Holocaust was only a bad thing because we agree it was………
@@l3rucewayne1 the most powerful argument for me is the DNA. I find it more effective cause it's tangible, the moral argument is purely "ideas", often ppl are not convinced by it cayuse they think it's only talk.
They conflated collective opinion with objective morality. If murder is objectively evil, it is evil regardless of whether some society votes for or against it. Opinion does not magically alter physical reality. Since the German nation approved of the Final Solution, your acquaintances wandered into approving of the holocaust. That is unconscionable. It is a direct result of indoctrination in Relativism.
