Location Location Location!!! Nice equipment. Valuable information. Interesting background on the Passion flower!
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed the passion flower info!
Amazing video. This is really a great set up for photograph of the Humming birds. We love it so much. Stay connected. Have a nice day, my friend.
Thank you, I will!
Cheers,
Greg
I LOVE your video !! I love taking pictures of birds, especially hummingbirds. I've been to Costa Rica twice now and that was what started my interest in both birding and photography. Your pics are so beautiful and I aspire to be as good as you some day. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks so much, Gail. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Cheers
Greg
Nice work amigos!
Gracias, mae! It was fun though a little strange being out during these times
Great presentation!! Brings back many fond memories from the workshop in 2011.
Thanks so much, Rick. I hope you're doing well!
Thanks very much for sharing your ideas. I just read about you via my good photo friend Jared Lloyd. Glad to know you and have subscribed for future episodes. Perhaps will see you in the Field!!
Thanks so much, Vicki!
Best,
Greg
Excellent learning. So much creativity and hard work to get that one "Wow" shot. Keep it up and share your knowledge to lesser mortals venturing into Bird photography.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful images and a fascinating and educational video. Thank you!
Thank you, Dianne!
Great video Greg and Paulo.. can not wait to try some of the techniques later this year. I am going to start calling you “el mago del flash”
Ha ha, thanks, Pablo. I much prefer that to "el pepino!"
Enjoyed your video and have your book "Flash for the nature photographer". Besides the obvious amazing hummingbird photographs I like that you do everything possible to preserve the natural beauty and the hummingbirds source of food. I even liked Paulo's description of the passion flower as it relates to Catholicism. I look forward to seeing more videos and hopefully visiting Costa Rica some day.
Hi, Carla. Thanks so much for your comment. I'm really glad that you enjoyed the video and the conservation and cultural aspects as well. That's something that Paulo and I are both always very interested in wherever we photograph so I'm really happy that this sort of information was a bonus for you. Best, Greg
Really loved the video and all the new ideas Greg. Good to see you and Paulo again. Am looking forward to seeing you in person again on a trip. I thought it was really well done, especially for a first try video. Keep them coming. Judy Johnson
Thanks, Judy. They'll keep getting better :-) Likewise, I look forward to traveling again with you and Don as well!
One small sexy pose for a man...one giant leap for photographykind! Fun video. Always nice to see behind the scenes and I second the bravo for including the ecological commentary and a reminder of the environmental ethos all photographers should keep in mind. Looking forward to the next in-the-field-adventure of Greg Basco and whomever he talks next in to schlepping around the gear. ;-)
Thanks, Erik. If it weren't for the pandemic, that schlepper could be you :-)
@@deepgreenphotography Hey I resemble that remark! ;-) BTW, I received my first dose of the vaccine...on my way to driving this Covid virus back to where it belongs.
Awesome, Erik! We've started vaccinations here in Costa Rica. Unfortunately I'm in the fifth group :-(
@@deepgreenphotography Look on the bright side, that means you aren't old and decrepit like me. Stay healthy Amigo!
Fun video! Enjoyed seeing both of you virtually and enjoyed being back at the amazing waterfall. Hope to get back there again someday.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Super video Greg. The two of you have a lot of imagination and an artistic eye.
Thanks, Marina! Hope all's well with you :-)
I really look forward to seeing your videos and that wonderful wildlife/landscape around you but this video showing hummingbirds from below took your videos to a new level. Love new ideas and I wont be the only one to be envious of your 'environment'! Sadly I can't see myself ever being able to get to Costa Rice nowadays but thanks for showing us your green world.
Thanks so much, Colin. Believe it or not, I've been aching to be able to get out to different environments for colder weather and more open scenery. The grass is always greener I guess... :-)
Excellent video. It was enlightening to see how your setup has evolved since I took your workshop almost 8 years ago! Really enjoyed the ecological commentary from Paulo. Terrific job!
Keith
Hi, Keith. Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you're well. Glad you enjoyed the video and especially the natural history part! Yeah, we keep trying to do different things -- more ideas coming in a future video :-) All the best!
Pulchritudinous! brilliant, charming, dazzling, delightful, inspiring. I could go on and on. Maravillosas fotografías! Saludos desde Sunrise, Florida.
Gracias, Eugenio. Cuanto me alegro que te haya gustado :-)
Saludos!
Really nice shots. I'd love to get there once the pandemic is over and capture some shots like that. That waterfall is also magnificent.
Thanks, Larry!
Congrats on your new channel, Greg! Great photos and info! Took me back to when we were there. Loved the info Paulo gave on the Passion flower! Hey, try dipping cucumbers into hot sauce instead of chips and you might like them! 😉 You are definitely the master of light! Stay safe! Kathy
Hi, Kathy. Thanks so much for your kind comments. Glad you enjoyed the video. No one will ever convince me to eat cucumbers, as God is my witness! :-)
Terrific vdo and Photography ❤️
Thank you so much 😀
Thanks Greg, enjoyed this and good to see different techniques.
Glad you enjoyed it, Moira!
This is great. Have been on one of the Foto Verde trips so the setups were familiar but it was interesting to see it being worked out. Ideas then even for this rainy english weather. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful, thanks a lot!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Looking forward to getting out there.
Good luck!
Man, this IS realy fantastic. I wish I was there😢
It's a beautiful place indeed!
Hola Greg,
Very nice video and a great first episode. With the Canon 90D you could use the WiFi on your phone to connect to the camera and view the live view as well as change any settings if you need to. And you could be further away from the setup. The camera could be closer to the ground if needed. i also used it when adjusting my setup so that i can see what is in the viewfinder while moving a new flower around rather than running back and forth between the camera and the set up. i did this quite often when using the 70D. Now I've fully switched to Olympus, which has the same features; articulating display and WiFi.
Cheers,
Dennis Goulet
Hi,, Dennis. Good to hear from you. That's a good point about using WiFi and the phone app as a potential workaround. Given the time constraints and the sometimes fiddly performance of phone to camera apps, I'm not sure it would have worked for this case. But I'll admit that I didn't even think about it :-) It's a good idea. The only drawback is how I would practice my sexy posing, hmmm... All the best!
Wonderful work as always Greg! I fondly remember shooting hummers with you at Catarata Del Toro.
Thanks, Stephen. I hope all's well with you!
Thanks for this wonderful video. I really liked those bat photos--were they using the multi flash mode. How wonderful to have so many hummers flying around all the time. Pura vida!
Thanks, Claire. The bat photo has potential. We did not use the multi-flash mode for those but I do have an idea for that next time I have the chance to photograph bats around a feeder 😉
Cheers,
Greg
I subbed. Not really because of the photography, but because you walked around and showed the area. It's a good mix. I hope to see more like this! And it's a nice, long video :)
Thanks!
Greg, loved your emphasis on taking only the flowers you are going to use but how do you keep them from wilting while you're shooting? Do you put them in some kind of water tubes? I tried to see that during the video but couldn't really see anything but the plamps holding the flower stems.
Hi, Sara. Great, I'm glad you appreciated that. You pose a good question. If it's a hot day, and the flowers I'm using are delicate, I will indeed stick the cut end in a florist tube filled with water. For more robust flowers or if it's cool and cloudy, I usually won't bother.
Best,
Greg
Thanks so much! I appreciate your perspectives on shutter speed because so many photographers recommend 1/1000 and above to avoid as much wing blur as possible. Your opinion makes the photos look a lot more "real."
Hi, Leslie. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I like sharp wings too at times but I definitely tend to prefer a little blurry motion if the situation allows :-)
Best,
Greg
ADOROOOOO!
Gracias!
Saludos desde Cozumel !
Saludos igual desde Costa Rica :-)
This video was fantastic. As a biologist I loved all the ecological background and commend you and Paolo for including it. Living in AZ I have quite the opposite problems with light, but as our hummers return, I'm looking forward to using your flash book as I try to add more species to my hummingbird portfolio this spring. I do have one "off-topic" question. As an adjunct faculty, I would love to find a software that allows me to create the graphics similar to what you did when you explained the rain patterns and shadow. Do you have a suggestions?? But I think I remember reading that your son is a graphic artists so maybe I'm out of luck. Stan
Hi, Stan. Thanks so much for commenting, and I'm glad you enjoyed the ecology info. We were really happy to include that and of course that's right up Paulo's alley :-) On the graphics, yes, my son Chris did the map work and my niece Valeria here in CR is an animator. She did the rain shadow graphics. Chris used Davinci Resolve for the maps, and I think Valeria used Adobe Illustrator and some other drawing programs. So, it helps to know some experts :-) Cheers!
Sempre que tenho tempo abro o vídeo, aprendo um pouco e babo com as imagens!!!👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Muchas gracias!
Just discoverd your Channel, great
Awesome, I'm so glad you are enjoying it :-)
Amazing video as always Greg keep it up!!!!!
Nice sexy pose!! 😂😂😂
