I have never used gouache, so I guess they're more opaque. I love your videos, you gave definitely inspired some creativity here, and the willingness to try new things! You have a great sense of composition, I think, and I am trying to learn. Thank you!

It’s very opaque but you can use it in thin washes. I’m still learning about it so I’ll keep experimenting. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. 😍

Wonderful moody colours, Trina! You always make the right choices. And I also have an on going struggle with white pencils. :)

Thank you! I’m really trying to stay out of my Winter dark phase. Usually, I’m painting with greys, blues and black. Ugh, the struggle with white pencils is so real. They rarely work but the Derwent Chines white is amazing. Thanks for commenting! 😍

Good morning Trina…it has been a while since I got around to watching one of your wonderful videos. I have decided to limit my time on You Tube and have more time to paint 😊…now that makes sense doesn’t it😂. Well, I said to myself, I need to go and see a “Trina” video and you have not disappointed me. This was fabulous! Truth is, I have been working these past few weeks in gouache, which I love, and your video was just what I needed to see. I will need to get time (not today) to look at your other videos on these. This landscape turned out fabulous and the added bordeaux color at the end made the whole thing pop. Love your unique paintings and your painting process…you are an inspiration! 😊

I was amazed to see what that little bit of light yellow ochre in the clouds did for the whole painting. Wow! I think you unlocked an understanding in my brain about colors and "rules". Thanks so much!

Love your landscapes. I was a textile designer for over forty years and always painted my designs using Winsor Newton gouache. You can use it in a creamy consistency for an opaque quality or thinned with water to get a translucent water colour effect. Also, if used on rough water colour paper, you can get more texture. I always used Raw Umber as part of my palette. I think you will enjoy using gouache as a contrast with water colours. You can also get some great effects by using a dry brush technique with the gouache. Have fun!

Thank you for the tips! I will have to try a dry brush technique. Textile art sounds really fascinating. What type of work did you paint? I really like the look of the gouache over the watercolor. 😍

Good morning from here Trina. Ooow l love the scumblies. Seeing you open the box of gouache made me smile, as l did the same last night. I bought a box before Christmas and forgot all about them being ill for 3wks im just about on the move now. So that was a nice surprise.
The pencils look great over the gouache. The finished piece is quite dramatic, it could well be a place l walk, and my dog heading for that scrub to see what lives there. I like to begin with lines, much the same as you do. I have a favourite chisel tipped pen l love to twist and turn it gives a broken rock effect. Thank you as always for sharing your lovely videos......Alioban 💖😊

holbein is my favorite brand of gouache ,, very pigmented, so a little goes a long way .. If you are going to be selling your work, the professional grade gouaches have good lightfast ratings ( most of the colors in their lines , depending on the pigment) .. Mgraham is also wonderful.. winsor newton is good too .. i'm a gouache artist and those are the ones I've loved all along .. Schmincke is really good ,too , but harder and very expensive to get here in the states .. hope that helps, Trina .. Norakag, here 👍 FYI viridian , mixed with magenta or that pinkish red in the set , will give you a gorgeous purple that you can adjust or tone down as wanted.. it's pretty gorgeous , once you get the hang of it lol enjoy .. Norakag

I have been looking at the Holbein and Winsor because they sell them in open stock. This set was more for practice but I didn’t mind the colors. I’m going to definitely try mixing that viridian with other colors because I really don’t like it. Haha! Thanks for the tips my friend. 😍

I think master's touch gouache is a great option for beginners like me if you don't want to invest yet just to test the waters. I honestly loved it even though it's a bit cheap, I believe great artists use what they have to their best abilities but more expensive products will generally be more high quality meaning you get more bang for your buck, but anyhow I loved experimenting with this set and practicing with it as I discover my wonder for gouache paints.

That brand of gouache is the absolute worse. Hard to get a feel for the medium with that brand. Depending on the consistency you like here is a rundown.
Schmincke is the best, creamy and a dream to use. but also, the most expensive.
Daniel Smith has a denser consistency a little sticky but good for texture. It also has some unique colors.
Holbein has wonderful body and smooth laydown probably the most intense pigment load. And a huge range of color.
M Graham is more transparent. It has honey so stays wet a little longer.
Winsor Newton is a good value and a creamier looser consistency.
Da Vinci is nice and comes in big 37 ml tubes for the same price as the others. It is a little more translucent.
Schmincke is my favorite. But doesn't have as many colors as the others. But it does have all your basics. The Titanium Gold Ochre is beautiful.
I mix up brands pull a color from this brand and a color from that.
Also want to say how much I enjoy your style of painting. I'm having a fun time experimenting and was glad you added gouache to the media mix.

    • @MixedMediaArtByTrina

Thanks for this breakdown. At the moment I’m still deciding so this is helpful. I knew that gouache would be awful but I really wanted to try it since everyone can’t afford the more expensive paints. Glad you are enjoying the videos! Thanks again. 😍
