    240 amp alternator, 850 watt fan, and class IV receiver hitch are the 3 differences on the tow and non-tow package trucks. IF you add those three things, I believe you'd have the factory tow package setup exactly.
    Max Tow adds even more additional things such as 1.5" wider axles, 4.10 axle gears, larger brakes, heavier coil spring rates, more payload rating, more towing capacity rating, etc.

    • @Wombatmetal
      @Wombatmetal 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brakes are the same. If you look at the build sheets all Gladiators have the HD Brakes listed. On the Max Tow its listed under optional equipment, on the others its listed under standard equipment. But the brakes look the same. I made the same mistake.

      If you are comparing Rubicon no tow package to Rubicon max tow package, this is true. HOWEVER, a Sport with the max tow package also gets the Rubicon axles (without the lockers). That's why the max tow package on a Sport is more expensive than a max tow package on the Rubicon...

    • @Wombatmetal
      @Wombatmetal 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OrangeTexan There are two tow packages, the tow package, and max tow package. The max tow only comes on a sport, the tow package has everything but the tires and axles, and can be ordered manual or automatic, Sport, Sport S, Rubicon, and Overland. The max tow must have the auto.
      You're thinking the tow package

      Thank you for clarifying this. I’ve been trying to get a person at Jeep dealer to tell me what’s actually the “hd engine cooling”, which no one knows!
      I like the 240A alternator, that’s worth the $250 charge by itself to me, considering it’s already installed.

    I just went and test drove a Sport S Gladiator last night and then sat down with the sales guy and he went over ordering options. The Sport S is the only one that can get the Max Tow package. Wide Dana44 axles, 4.10 gears, extra cooling, and 240amp electrical system. If the price on the Rubicon is too much then the Sport S with the Max Tow is the way to go. I opted for the bed liner and upgraded sound system with the 8.4in screen and my price on the Truck came out around $44k. In the past I owed a JKU Sport S and it didn't have lockers and I never had a situation where I needed them. The nice thing about the Max Tow with the 4.10 gears is you can add the Rubicon lockers to them down the road. Honestly I'd just throw a rear locker on it and be done, but 44k is way better than 57k and all I'm lacking is lockers I'll never use.

    Thank you for these great videos. I haven't bought a Glad yet, but I plan to. One problem with TH-cam reviews of the Gladiator is they almost always review a fully loaded Rubicon model. I really want a Sport with max tow to start my build. So your videos are very helpful to me.

    Max tow also comes with wider axles and 4.10 gears (which the rubicon gets too) as well as extra little lip on the fender flares. (To maintain legal compliance) Higher output alternator and stronger fan unit. Rims have a slightly higher load rating as well.

      Yep, and a few other things like 400 lbs. more payload, "445" coil springs, larger brakes, etc. But in this video I was just looking at what "heavy duty cooling" means.

    I’m not sure about other models, but rubicon’s come with the tow bar on them standard even without the tow package. Look under the back bumper, you’ll see the tow bar on there, only missing the square part that your hitch attaches to. Real easy to get this to work, and wiring is already all wired up anyways.

    Well heavy duty cooling on Mopar trucks typically included a larger radiator, bigger cooling fan, aux transmission cooler, and steering cooler for the old hydraulic pumps. I’d assume they’d still put in a larger radiator and aux transmission cooler in the Jeep at the very least.

    Are the HD disk brakes bigger on the max tow package? I've seen some order guides that list HD disk brakes as part of the max tow package and I've seen comments on the JT forum that the brakes on all JTs are the same. Any chance you could compare your brakes to the JT without max tow's brakes?

    Another youtuber, TrailRecon (an overlander), popped one of those Patagonia tires on a rock recently. I think it blew at the sidewall.

    • @4-LOW
      @4-LOW  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I saw that. I've also seen Lite Brite beat the hell out of these tires with no failures, and I've seen pictures of others on Instagram that have been beaten so hard that the lettering is ripped and torn on the sidewalls with no failures. So I'm guessing TrailRecon just had really bad luck.

    Pretty awesome your max tow gladiator has a actual radiator cooler in addition to a heat transfer unit, Toyota removed the aux radiator style cooling in all their Tundras and Tacomas. 2019 up on Tundra and 2020 march builds on Tacoma have no decent cooling for towing. To offset this they raised the overheat trans temp to 302 degree, pretty dumb. A heat transfer unit alone will not cut it towing in hot weather and in the mountains. Overheat light is pretty common for this type towing. Kudo's to Jeep for doing a heavy duty system from the factory. You are light yrs ahead of New Toyota trucks.

    I've been trying to figure out the difference between the fender flares on our max tows vs the others. Why wouldn't our rear flares be the same as the ones on the Rubicon? Even the fronts just not being mounted as high up. We are the only ones with the extra little flare even with the same wide track axles as the Rubicon.

    • @4-LOW
      @4-LOW  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but ours are two-piece design. The entire flare is actually larger than a standard Sport. I guess we didn't get Rubicon flares because those are high rise and are unique to that package.

    Any help is appreciated! I am looking at 2 trucks... almost everything is the same... except one has the heavy duty cooling, and the other has LED lights. I plan on towing 2 jet skis, not much more. How much of a bid deal is that fan/alternator combo? Is it worth it to get the tow pack and swap out the LED's later? Is the bigger alternator and fan THAT important? Thank you in advance!

    • @4-LOW
      @4-LOW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I KNEW that the only thing I'd ever tow is a pair of jet skis, I personally would take the truck with the LED lights. The upgraded fan isn't that big of a deal in your case. But, I WOULD make sure whichever truck you pick comes with at least a towing package of some sort. Otherwise you'll have to mount a ball onto the bumper.

    • @omegavariant
      @omegavariant 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@4-LOW awesome! Thank you so much for the feedback. I just plan on using it for the jet skis, I have access bigger tow vehicle for higher weight tows. I just wasn't sure HOW big of a difference this "heavy duty cooling" was.

    • @omegavariant
      @omegavariant 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@4-LOW ... follow up. The LED does NOT have ANY tow package. I assume getting a hitch added would be more work than swapping out the LEDs?

    • @4-LOW
      @4-LOW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@omegavariant If there is NO tow package, then what you'll get is a hitch that bolts to the frame the same way BUT it only has a provision for a ball to be mounted through the bumper. If you want to swap it for a standard receiver type hitch, you'll need to unbolt the existing hitch and then bolt up the new one. That'll require a helper to hold the hitch while you work on the bolts, and it'll require an air impact tool or a large 1/2" ratchet and sockets because they'll be tight!

    Thats funny my wife’s 2006 jeep liberty has max tow package with a tow capacity of 5,000 lbs,, and it also has max cooling,, it has the trans cooler similar to yours “But” it has 2 engine fans,, the electric fan mounted like on the radiator “Plus” another fan mounted to the engine on one of the pulleys ,, which is electronically controlled also.. so it has a total of 2 engine fans ,, wonder why yours doesn’t.. it has the 42RLE , 4 speed auto trans and the 3.7 liter V6 .. we have had it since new , she wont part with it lol still looks and runs perfect . And never been in the shop other than normal stuff , brakes , exhaust, etc...

    Can you comment on the rear differential having a strut or shock, attached to it, vs. the other configs of the Gladiator. I was on my local dealers lot and was interested in seeing the difference in the axles of the max tow package and noticed a strut attached forward of the rear differential. Went over to a Rubicon and another Sport and they did not have this. No mention anywhere when I search for this thing on google.

    • @4-LOW
      @4-LOW  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen every configuration of the Gladiator in person, and none that I've seen have struts. They are all coil springs with external shocks. The Rubicon gets Fox branded shocks, but otherwise the setup is all the same.

    • @AlMenard
      @AlMenard 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought that is what you thought i was talking about but no not the suspension springs and shocks. I am talking about a device attached to the actual rear Differential centerline running and attached forward of the rear diff to the frame I believe. Not the four corner suspension. I have to believe this is specific to the max tow package.

      There is a dampener on the Axle. That is on no other builds other than max tow. Spoke to service rep. Thinks that the locker on the Rubicon negates the need on that, but while the Sport has the same axle it is not internally the same. Have photo but can’t upload here.
