Never apologize for what you are giving to your audience for free. The fact that you made this video on either side of a performance shows an incredible generosity.

    Summary for myself:
1 Go thru it slowly (know where you’re at and the second time hands already feels much more comfortable)
2 Go to hard spot first!!
3 Take the score away, feel fresh and observe dynamics as if it’s a new piece
4 Really give it a new chance and overcome passages that i was scared before
5 Danae thought its always fun to pick up old repertoire and find out how much her musical ideas change, also observe cds of famous pianist’s’ interpretations of the same piece decades apart.
Thank you always for this video Danae! ❤️❤️

Danae, no need to apologize, this video made my day! You are beautiful and have nothing to apologize for.
Your info on playing slowly at first has been the biggest help I have had! It works every time!

On taking a fresh look at a piece: I read once that the conductor Robert Shaw used to buy a brand new copy of the score even for repertoire he had conducted dozens on times, so that he would not be bound by his previous interpretations. Most of us cannot afford that, but the concept is interesting, and ties into your suggestion to work a lot away from the keyboard with mental practice.
Like you, I find the initial slow playthrough of an "old" piece to be essential.
    Another very fine video!

If I did as you suggest, I would have to figure out the fingering all over again. Not only can I not afford to buy a new score every time I return to an old piece, I can’t afford the investment of time it would take to re-learn what I struggled so long and hard to learn the first time. But that’s simply because I’m old, my memory isn’t so good anymore, and I don’t have much time left. For someone in Mr. Shaw’s position, approaching an old piece afresh makes perfect sense.

That’s a very interesting approach and definitely makes the whole “starting with a clean slate” approach even stronger and more effective! Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻

The fact that you managed to juggle both the on-stage performance and also prepare a presentation on the same occasion is impressive. I have to drop everything for a full day before I present a few slides at work!

I never get tired of watching your videos. I took your advice and practiced Bach's Invention #8 in F slowly. I was having trouble with the last four bars in the left hand. So I slowed it way down and made sure I practiced the correct fingering until I had it down. It only took about 334 times to get it right. lol

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Haha sometimes it does take that long - but then it sticks, which is great! 😉 Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻

I first learned or rather tried to learn it 20 years ago, now finally the tension seems to be gone from the left hand. These videos have made problem solving way more efficient. As an added bonus the presenter is also a Greek goddess..

Going back to old pieces from your repertoire is like re-visiting a good old friend after many years...
Looking at a score that I thoroughly practiced decades ago can be weird though...often I think, "Why on earth did I choose that fingering there, it's ridiculous!". It means that during the years, my technique has changed quite a lot - hopefully it improved. ;-)

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Haha yes I can totally relate to that! 😂

Wow does making this wonderful quick video before a recital helps you to keep calm anxiety and be more relaxed before the performance? Is it something that you do often?

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I haven’t done it like that very often. I wouldn’t say that it makes me more or less nervous - in this case, I simply didn’t have any other time to make the video, so I decided to do it backstage. However, I was also playing pieces I already knew very well - if I was playing a new piano concerto for example, I probably would not do this but rather be very focused in the piece only right before the performance.

Man, Jesus loves you, he cares about you, you dont have idea of how good is to feeling his presense, he misericordy being manifested in our heart, giving us peace, happy, the truth happy, the truth life, cheer, and have esperance, and promise to us in the next life a life where there's no sadness, no pains, no sufferings, thanks for the sacrifice of Jesus, but we have to choose believe him and repent of our sins, and choose to obey him. Man with God in the bad days you wont you will not be shaken, even though the pain lasts for a few days, weeks, months, years, at the right time God will act, and will transform your life. This emptiness in the hearts of those who do not know God can only be filled with a belief in Jesus. Jesus loves you, he has not given up on you, he wants to see you there in heaven, no matter what you have done. So, repent of your sins and choose to live with him and believe in Jesus, because he is God, works miracles, can solve all the problems of your life, and give you strength to face them, even though you are weak , small, do not be worthy, God has not given up on you, and has plans for you, which are big.
Thank you, God will be in control of the problems that you cannot solve, so, have hopes even on the bad day and do not give up, and you will see the action of God. Dont late in your decision to God bless each one
