  • There is an article out in the universe that says, scientists have found that Super worms eat Styrofoam.
Mongo think - wow that awesome. Everybody could have their own little Styrofoam recycle center in their house and that would be a great way to save the landfill and earth. Styrofoam is a GREAT insulator but it have 1 BIG downside... It not easy recycle.
Styrofoam is made from oil and oil bad right... Really Styrofoam take SUPER LONG TIME to break down back into dirt. This idea should make it much easier.
Mongo go to pet smart and get a 50count of super worms. Going to show you how to start a worm farm and we going to test this claim. Mongo still got all the stuff for super worm farm from when Mongo and wifey had bearded dragon.
    Needed items:
1 large terrarium enclosure (super worms)
1 small terrarium enclosure (beetles, once they reach that stage)
1 small sectional box (like for fishing lures)
Paint or construction paper and tape
Drill and bit (for air holes)
    Super worms
    Wheat bran (bedding)
Thin carrot slices (for food if not using Styrofoam)
Styrofoam (not needed if doing a "real" worm farm)
Start with sectional box and create sections. Use the drill and bit to drill a small hole through the lid of each section. Bugs will need airholes. Mongo recommend a bit smaller than a super worm. Either paint the box so no light can enter it or cover the entire box with construction paper and tape it on. Be sure to reopen the airholes when they get covered.
Put 1 super worm in each section of the box. They must be alone (otherwise they may each each other) NO FOOD. Secure the lid and place in a dark closet. Over the next few weeks their biology will cause them to begin the pupating stage. The worms will begin to curl, shed and a pupa will emerge. This is the stage before beetles. (beetles lay eggs that become super worms)
Put the remaining super worms in the large terrarium add some wheat bran for bedding. About 1/2inch deep is enough. Add food and leave them alone.
If you are not using Styrofoam, thin slice some baby carrots and put that on top of the bedding. They really like carrots. Add fresh carrot slices every other day to keep them healthy and happy. Every other week it is good to go through the worms and remove any dead ones. They don't all make it.
For Styrofoam food Mongo is adding a bunch and that is it. If article is true then they should have more than enough food to eat, but we will see!
A message to PETSMART - you owe Mongo 3 Super worms!
