I legit got teary eyed after watching this. The animation, the voice acting, the scenes at Marineford, the new characters and their stories etc. We really need a full length One Piece film with this level of animation and presentation.
The story of the two brothers was just beautiful. Here is this low grunt Marine, the typical NPC, having a moment of weakness, stuck in a war he believes he has no chance of surviving. Pirates that can destroy literal islands are on each side, Pacifista attacking on all sides, and there is his younger brother, who is a higher rank and possibly more powerful than him, pinned down under some rubble crying out for his brother to save him as he is, about to die if he doesn’t do something. Yet he is injured himself; you can’t fault the man for wanting to run. But here is Luffy, busting through-the boy that wants to save his own brother-a impossible task, with multiple people wanting to stop him, all so he could save his brother, Ace, the son of the Pirate King. That courage makes him move to save his brother, forgetting about the impossibility or safety. “I’ll either save him or I’ll die trying.”
That’s not exactly the point. The point is that his younger brother is his superior officer. He is the older brother and he isn’t up to par as his younger brother. And his younger brother lectures him and goads him to be better, in a somewhat condescending way. However in a time of trouble, he was clearly thinking about his younger brother’s wellbeing, despite really resenting him. Luffy only double confirms that elder brother’s unconditional love deep inside for his own sibling. So he turned away the bitterness and the resentment and like a blood brother, risked his life and pushed past the pain barrier to save his only brother. Putting rank, ego, bitterness aside, he is acting like an older brother for his younger sibling.
Still though my point stands the man had a moment of weakness no matter how much of a dick your brother can be you dont leave him behind he could have run away to save his own ass (that is if Akainu didn’t spot him) but he didn’t he saw the brotherly bond between Ace and Luffy seeing how far two criminals are willing to go for one another just to save one off them that is where he realised “he maybe a asshole but he is still my brother” and at the end he saves him along with getting a promotion later on all thanks to the courage he witnessed from luffy
His brother wasn't crying for him to save him, He has yelling out to see if his brother was still alive since they were both in the vicinity of Oar's leg. Thats also why he says RUN AWAY!" when he spots him, He's always wanted the best for his older bro even though he makes fun of him.

The older brother saw no chance in surviving and WAS going to run after trying to go back, the younger brother STOPPED yelling for his older brother after confirming he is alive. It confirmed that both brothers, no matter how they act around each other, actually love each other deeply. Just like how Ace insulted Luffy to get him to leave but Luffy screamed out "I'm your little brother!" as if that's the only reason he needed. Ace and Luffy came a long way, they certainly didn't love each other at first sight and they rarely even showed brotherly love after they became sworn brothers. It was only after the tragedy of Sabo's death they both realized the fragility of life and they might lose each other so they softened up, Ace became so gentle and caring to Luffy and vice-versa. For these two marine brothers, their life-and-death moment of love is in this war. Their wake-up moment is not as early as Ace and Luffy. But they managed to pull through because of Luffy's love and dedication to his big brother inspired that dormant love the older marine brother has for his younger brother.
Bonus scene 😊 There is a beautiful, heartworming scene after the credits. The girl returns to her normal day in life and she is picturing her day. She Hears luffy s voice in her head screaming lets goooo... she responds with a small voice "haaaaaaa"... kinda reminds me of myself as a one piece fan.
Gotta say - I hadn't watched OP fan letter until I saw the video, stopped the video watched and now I just have a smile on my face. That was amazing I just loved how it showed these major events from the regular people's perspective. Yeah we saw how the public was reacting to the war but to see just a regular footsoldiers perspective of when crocodile and mihawk are squaring up or the effects of Doffy just flinging Little Oars Jr.'s leg into the sky after he cut it off was beautiful. Even seeing how terrifying Heraclesn's bugs were to a regular person was amazing and MY GOD THE ANIMATION AND ART IS AMAZING
This episode was definitely needed. Its a fantastic reminder of what makes One Piece an amazing work of art in the midst of the crazy large-scale fights and makes me want to rewatch the entire series again
I honestly love it when series involving super humans show the common people perspective. The best part of this special is that it's a meta love letter. The in world characters being very similiar to real world fans. I love how mini nami was overanalyzing the 3D2Y and the the bar was basically a twitter flame war.
This special made me cry, it was so beautiful. And the ending with the Straw Hats singing the opening theme from Return to Sabaody just clinched it even more. I adore this special so much more than I realized I would
0:41 as someone who thought it was just gonna be some silly bs filler. GO WATCH THIS EPISODE. I know we all groan about breaks. But. The perspective of how the world is for the side character fodder marines on the battlefield alone. Was worth the watch. Watching them duck cower and run from laser beams and falling ice. Explosions and magma everywhere. I loved the brother crushed under oars foot. That scene was really good at capturing how these large scale battles are for normal citizens with no powers
Honestly, I loved how utterly terrified the Pacifistas were portrayed during this episode. We kind brush them off now, but from the POV of an average marine or pirate, these things are terrifying. I love how we don't even see one, just the ominous hum of their laser charging and the collateral they cause until Luffy defeated it in a single punch, effectively demystifying them as a threat.
This special capitalized on my favorite part of One Piece in a way I haven’t felt in a little bit. I love my Strawhats, but my favorite story beats are the ones that focus on the people they impact. Wano was great for me in that regard (shoutout to my girl Toko). I love them fleshing out the lives of background characters like this because it makes me feel even more like I’m just living in this world watching everything unfold. Megumi Ishitani can do no wrong. She keeps cooking and we keep eating. Incredible.
The same feeling I felt. I admit I saw special and I thought it was going to be crappy filler. It was well written and beautiful animated and voiced. I loved it so much.
Been pretty emotional from a breakup and i havent really been able to enjoy one piece and just anime in general but i put this episode on last night and it made me so happy i cried and got reminded of how much i love one piece lol im like 3 months behind the anime and manga gonna catch up this week
Honestly completely right. Something about seeing the perspective of just a random person is just refreshing. It's just really nice to see this was such a good animation. Loved it

@rachelciel3330 not a great option either. If you don't do the right thing you're at risk of attack by pirates or revolutionaries, but if you keep trying to be a good person and stop the others being horrible you end up like that remaining DonQixote man (can't remember his name at the moment).
Seeing our beloved characters from civilians POV really adds to the depth of this incredible fantasy land. Cherry on top would be if we saw the fan letter girl or marine brothers in the original anime. Either way I REALLY HOPE we get more of these with different POVs from every arc, that would make this fantasy land all the bigger.
all them characters are actually canon in the anime, the end credit scene showcase each time they interacted with the straw hat crew during the 2 year time skip. look carefully its right there. Honestly the most brilliant idea to show their perspective.
This special definitely made me come back to a lot of One Piece TH-camrs like you. I have been trying to avoid manga spoilers because of everything that is happening and being set up, so I have been avoiding these channels, glad to see you are still at it!
I can't even express how beautiful this Special episode was As tekking always say what is the exposition of random marine baker etc in this world we got a gilmse This episode show how great of a director megumi ishitani is plus how Alive the world of One piece oda created is. We can have so many side story of even random people reaction to every freaking event in this world
The amount of details packed into this short special is mind blowing. There is even Sanji's nose bleed trail on the bird! There there were short easter eggs, like the marines scurrying off with fake chopper and Robin, pushing the little girl onto the soul king crowd.
One thing that I find funny is that "The Girl" calmed to be 15, so "One Piece puberty" should be hitting her like a freight train any day now, if she was telling the truth.
Very few episodes have made me cry with one piece, merry's goodbye, aces death and now the fan letter I'm so hyper that the Fishman remake comes out the weekend of my birthday! It's also weird that I've watched one piece for most of my life I turn 22 on the 24th and started one piece when I was 10
This was a interesting project to animate for the anime’s 25th anniversary which just proves that One Piece even the random nameless background citizen characters are interesting which I would love to see this more of this, but if I had to say I wished they included the other novels for Brook, Sanji, Usopp, & Robin into this episode but I can only really see that if they made it longer & while as for Brooks would be easy I think Robin’s novel would be hard to integrate into the plot
This episode is absolutely incredible. Probably the most moving thing I’ve ever seen, not just the episode itself but also the culmination of it. Things from across the series to make this happen
Hey tekking! I think I have a really good video idea for you. So you talk a lot about how geography is everything, and I don't think people quite understand how intense and true that is. Im writing a book right now and the geography has been extremely important. I think the community, as well as I would love to see a in depth video on why geography is important. How it effects information being spread, how it effects travel, how it effects food, etc. Thank you!!!! Keep up the great work!!!
It's truly a testament to the beauty of One Piece that a special episode following literal nameless characters in the background of this expansive world can be so good. Megumi Ishitani and everyone else who worked on this deserve all the praise they have been getting and more for going above and beyond. They created the most special anime special I have ever seen.
I just noticed, the fan letter girl has her hand bandaged the same way as Nami during Arlong park arc! What a nice callback! Great video by the way! I gotta go watch the whole thing all over again!
I was not expecting much, and did not know the director of the episode is Megumi Ishitani. Glad to say I was blown away, shedding tears. Best filler episode.
I loved this so much! I think my favorite was the older Marine brother. I loved that his love of Luffy was so personal. I loved the girl too. I loved that we never got a clear shot of the Straw Hats, except for that one fan of Brook’s but she’s a fan of Brook the singer, not Brook the pirate and she wouldn’t connect to who Chopper is.
I like how none of the characters have a name and they never actually got to meet the straw hats. They're a real representation of us One Piece fans. We never met the Straw Hats, but they still affected our lives.
12:58 you can see the monster point of chopper. That means the marine knows about chopper transformation but still doesn't raise his bounty Navy might be trying to hide something
I find it interesting that many of these characters are voiced by other One Piece characters - The girl that is Nami’s fan is voiced by Kokoro Kikuchi who also voices Toko & Reina - The 2 brother Marines: older brother voiced by Yasuyuki Kase (voices Big News Morgans) while younger is voiced by Hiroki Takahashi (voices Queen & Bill) - The 3 drunk men in the bar talking about who is the strongest swordsman are voiced by Yasuhiro Takato (voices Bepo, Zepo, Buffalo, Butchie, Mr.9, Peterman, Satori, Hotori & Kotori), Ryouta Takeuchi (voiced Bavarois), & Takuya Kirimoto (voiced Cracker) - Benevolent King of the Waves is voiced by Jiro Saito who also voices Orlumbus, Snack, & Rampo - The woman in the bookstore is voiced by Yuka Komatsu who also voices Sally Isntoinette & Momousagi / Gion
the last scene where she said yeahhhhh copying the straw hats and she sail to her journy too from the dark narrow street to the bright big one was beautiful
you didnt talk about my favorite part where the youger brother is stuck and injured and the older brother thinks about abandoning him but he hears luffy scream out for ace wich inspires him!
Okay but seriously how are they going to get me emotionally connected to like three or four separate characters in the span of 20 minutes and make me cry for all of them?
This episode really show how interesting the one piece world itself is. I bet there's a lot of story could be told in the world even after luffy achieved his dreams
Episode felt like a fan insert. Im so glad I went to watch the episode and then came back to your video. Might be my favorite one piece episode ever, just because they actually took the time to animate and voice over it
Realizing that what was crushing the brothers was Oars Jr’s cut off leg really took me aback. The scale of the collateral damage in One Piece gets over looked a lot and this special really shows what it’s like to be normal in this world, especially the scenes that looked like they were shot with a camera on the scene really made it feel like saving private Ryan times 1000.
I feel like the brothers relationship was a bit of jealousy but also the older brother was gripping with his want to protect his younger brother from his hubris as well. The scenes where he is silently standing as his brother brags and puts him down he just allows it to happen suppressing his own pride to continue to be near his brother. To not only strive for the position of his brother, but as we see as he saves him at marineford, him grip with his brotherly love and protection of his younger unruly brother. I enjoyed your breakdown Tekking! I have watched alot of your videos but this is my first comment. I gotta give you props for calling the fauxsun God out!
This episode made me feel exactly how you described in the beginning. It made me feel so warm and happy on the inside. Glad someone else understands how this episode made me feel.
It was actually so amazing. I LOVED seeing the world through the eyes of just a normal person in the world and seeing the impact the Straw Hats have had on people they've never even met. The animation was beautiful, the story was great, the characters were great, it was all so good. I also love that she didn't recognize Usopp and we can only imagine her reaction when she finds out that she actually met a Straw Hat, even if it wasn't her favorite one. The fact that she was right about 3D2Y for all the wrong reasons was also really good. And Robin's reaction to the magazine about Franky was funnier than it should have been lmao Edit: Also, the main girl's outfit is very similar to Nami's East Blue outfit
I just knew I'd come to see Tekking's face after Fan Letter and it'd be exactly what I craved. Same as mine. Exhausted from smiling. Overwhelmed with contentment. Eyes wide as hell , excited by whatever the hell that was. Yay
Some extra little bits I loved - the navy soldier biting his lip so hard it bled and then crying in joy as Chopper sailed off. Also him struggling to/reluctantly adding his chess piece was awesome The kids attacking the a hole marine and the ambiguous “civilians are attacking us!!!” Now has a character we see saying that. The younger brother getting attacked by Newkamas was amazing. No one talks about how good of a shot he is or how savage him pummeling that pirate with the hilt of his sword was. I could go on but these were my favorite little moments.
At one point, she has to dodge a couple of CP agents running by carrying a bag with the Robin-esque and Chopper-ish creatures. I think I'm going to go watch it again.
My favorite thing is that now that they see it works, they now have permission basically to create more like it, What I saw on twitter last night was some of shit oda skipped could be adapted in this style, like imagine the fight between akainu and aokiji through the eyes of the scientist on the island
As you said it would be great to see more stuff like this, and I can just imagine we maybe getting some of the cover stories animated to give more depth to certain characters
i feel like one of these for every arc wouldnt be too much to ask and would be fucking awesome. like probably every arc after little garden could have little stories packed in like this

But they managed to pull through because of Luffy's love and dedication to his big brother inspired that dormant love the older marine brother has for his younger brother.
A special so good it shot up to the 2nd place on MAL.
#1 now
edit: only for anime specials, not top anime
@@Oreli no it's still #2
@@oliver-04 i was mistaken, it's #2 on top anime but #1 for anime specials
Oh it is on Mal? Time to give it a 10 rating
I don't rate place that put gintama in top 20
Bonus scene 😊 There is a beautiful, heartworming scene after the credits. The girl returns to her normal day in life and she is picturing her day. She Hears luffy s voice in her head screaming lets goooo... she responds with a small voice "haaaaaaa"... kinda reminds me of myself as a one piece fan.
It gave me such nostalgia for watching One Piece when I was kid
Gotta say - I hadn't watched OP fan letter until I saw the video, stopped the video watched and now I just have a smile on my face. That was amazing
I just loved how it showed these major events from the regular people's perspective.
Megumi Ishitani is the goat 🐐
What a masterpiece to go out before the anime goes on a break
🤓🤓erm technically the anime is not on break . There's still fishman island remaster airing
One piece fans eating so well during a one piece break
I would tune in for this type of stuff for 6 months. Can't get enough of OP world building
We cant call them fodder anymore 😭
Honestly, I loved how utterly terrified the Pacifistas were portrayed during this episode. We kind brush them off now, but from the POV of an average marine or pirate, these things are terrifying. I love how we don't even see one, just the ominous hum of their laser charging and the collateral they cause until Luffy defeated it in a single punch, effectively demystifying them as a threat.
I cried at the end of it, and cried every time I watched a reaction of someone watching it. I cried bad, man. Snots and all.
Incredible.
I've been waiting for this video ever since fan letter came out
The same feeling I felt.
Loved it
"Two brothers.....one mission......zero f#cks given"
(Said in your movie trailer voice) 😂
Been going through some tough stuff at the moment, really made my day to see something as wholesome as this special, especially with the ending :D
This episode changed my decision that I would like to be isekai-ed into the OP world.
With no haki or DF this is scary asf 😭
Gotta get those battleship bag punches in man
@@juanshanks6984 my ass is NOT punching no damn battleships man 😭
I'd probably die first week in Grey terminal
@@Profaith gotta pray to be isekai'd as a member of D clan then. But then again, they all mostly died. Huh...
...Pray to be born as celestial dragon then.
Nah i rather die then be a celestial deagon, im go the ussop route and run around the island so i can run away from my trouble.@rachelciel3330
Yo my boy Brook got himself a cute fan girl I'm happy for my dude
To bad he couldn’t ask to see her panties. Mans dream would have finally came through
This special definitely made me come back to a lot of One Piece TH-camrs like you. I have been trying to avoid manga spoilers because of everything that is happening and being set up, so I have been avoiding these channels, glad to see you are still at it!
I can't even express how beautiful this Special episode was
As tekking always say what is the exposition of random marine baker etc in this world we got a gilmse
This episode show how great of a director megumi ishitani is plus how Alive the world of One piece oda created is.
We can have so many side story of even random people reaction to every freaking event in this world
This episode really makes me happy to be alive! Rewatched it twice and cried twice during the war scene.
Go from kobi the deck scrubber to kobi the hero of the marines in 6 months💀
She's going from east blue Nami to Sabaody Nami real quick
tears just started falling man the Sabaody feels reaches deep into my heart
This work really has the perspective I needed. I wish I could experience something like this in a game.
This episode is absolutely incredible. Probably the most moving thing I’ve ever seen, not just the episode itself but also the culmination of it. Things from across the series to make this happen
This was one of the best chapters I've seen it was so emotional and wholesome.
The Franky Mag has volume 39 on it!! One piece vol. 39 is the one paralleling the Queen thing.
This is what One piece animation should be like, holy Nika!
I love the powerscaling at the bar, it was so good. I felt like I would be there with my coors light 😂😂😂
This is canon in our hearts.
I just noticed, the fan letter girl has her hand bandaged the same way as Nami during Arlong park arc! What a nice callback! Great video by the way! I gotta go watch the whole thing all over again!
This just casually reminded me why this show is in my top 5 animes of all time 😮💨🔥👌🏾
This show is my top 1 Anime of all time
I did indeed pause this video and go rewatch it, and it truly is just SO GOOD
I was not expecting much, and did not know the director of the episode is Megumi Ishitani. Glad to say I was blown away, shedding tears. Best filler episode.
I didn't realize how great this Fan Letter ✉️ was going to be going into the episode last night. It was Incredible to say the least!!
What's awesome about Tekking posting this right now is that this morning? I actually just watched it 😅
Everyday I thank Goda for being a One Piece fan 🙏
I loved this so much! I think my favorite was the older Marine brother. I loved that his love of Luffy was so personal. I loved the girl too. I loved that we never got a clear shot of the Straw Hats, except for that one fan of Brook’s but she’s a fan of Brook the singer, not Brook the pirate and she wouldn’t connect to who Chopper is.
This was an amazing episode. 10/10. If we keep getting episodes like this then these 6 months will be easy
good writing makes you care about characters you've only just met
I literally stopped the video to go watch it and it brought me so much joy this episode was breathtaking
I like how none of the characters have a name and they never actually got to meet the straw hats.
They're a real representation of us One Piece fans. We never met the Straw Hats, but they still affected our lives.
Damn, I didn't even realise we never got the name of any of them😅 I just felt so connected to them that I thought we got the names.
I appreciate that Robin was there to hear people talking about her husband.
headcanon outta here
12:58 you can see the monster point of chopper.
That means the marine knows about chopper transformation but still doesn't raise his bounty
Navy might be trying to hide something
I deadass cried at the end of it, fantastic piece of art.
I find it interesting that many of these characters are voiced by other One Piece characters
- The girl that is Nami’s fan is voiced by Kokoro Kikuchi who also voices Toko & Reina
- The 2 brother Marines: older brother voiced by Yasuyuki Kase (voices Big News Morgans) while younger is voiced by Hiroki Takahashi (voices Queen & Bill)
- The 3 drunk men in the bar talking about who is the strongest swordsman are voiced by Yasuhiro Takato (voices Bepo, Zepo, Buffalo, Butchie, Mr.9, Peterman, Satori, Hotori & Kotori), Ryouta Takeuchi (voiced Bavarois), & Takuya Kirimoto (voiced Cracker)
- Benevolent King of the Waves is voiced by Jiro Saito who also voices Orlumbus, Snack, & Rampo
- The woman in the bookstore is voiced by Yuka Komatsu who also voices Sally Isntoinette & Momousagi / Gion
And the granny that tries to stop the Nami fangirl near the start is voiced by Luffy's voice actor!
@@lonely__noodles Yes I forgot to put that on here
the last scene where she said yeahhhhh copying the straw hats and she sail to her journy too from the dark narrow street to the bright big one was beautiful
the perspective of a normal marine in the war with stuff blowing everywhere and the powerful marine and pirate fighting is crazy and terrifying
you didnt talk about my favorite part where the youger brother is stuck and injured and the older brother thinks about abandoning him but he hears luffy scream out for ace wich inspires him!
This not just a fan letter, it's a celebration
Okay but seriously how are they going to get me emotionally connected to like three or four separate characters in the span of 20 minutes and make me cry for all of them?
This episode really show how interesting the one piece world itself is. I bet there's a lot of story could be told in the world even after luffy achieved his dreams
Now I want them to adapt the Ace light novels and the cover stories
Especially the cover stories
The random guys in the bar powerscaling the pirates was peak meta storytelling.
I loved it so much.
I really want Chopper to have a fan club that's orchestrated by Robin and the vice admiral.
Man, I actually had to call my big bro after this special. Shit had me actually thanking him for being my family, it was crazy.
This episode made me feel exactly how you described in the beginning. It made me feel so warm and happy on the inside. Glad someone else understands how this episode made me feel.
0:27 best advice you will ever receive in your current (and every) lifetime.
I love that this is what made tekking reappear on my TH-cam feed.
ZEEEHAHAHAHA that was so great and almost Meta as a fan. Now we need a blackbeard version. Lmao
And Robin's reaction to the magazine about Franky was funnier than it should have been lmao
Edit: Also, the main girl's outfit is very similar to Nami's East Blue outfit
I just knew I'd come to see Tekking's face after Fan Letter and it'd be exactly what I craved. Same as mine. Exhausted from smiling. Overwhelmed with contentment. Eyes wide as hell , excited by whatever the hell that was. Yay
It was soo good. I was hoping you would talk about this episode❤
Some extra little bits I loved - the navy soldier biting his lip so hard it bled and then crying in joy as Chopper sailed off. Also him struggling to/reluctantly adding his chess piece was awesome
The kids attacking the a hole marine and the ambiguous “civilians are attacking us!!!” Now has a character we see saying that.
The younger brother getting attacked by Newkamas was amazing. No one talks about how good of a shot he is or how savage him pummeling that pirate with the hilt of his sword was.
I could go on but these were my favorite little moments.
I've heard Fan Letter Girl being called Mini-Nami.
Being called Mini-Nami is quite the compliment to her, I guess.
This episode alone clears 99% anime this year
I think i teared up 3 separate times during the episode. Truly heart warming!
As you said it would be great to see more stuff like this, and I can just imagine we maybe getting some of the cover stories animated to give more depth to certain characters
so good seeing sections of Marineford Arc get reanimated which is what we've waited for for so long xx
EPISODE OF THE YEAR! And it's not even close!
i feel like one of these for every arc wouldnt be too much to ask and would be fucking awesome. like probably every arc after little garden could have little stories packed in like this
