  • After tidying up the dashboard and wiring loom it's time to address a problem on the #TriumphSpitfire #Project that's be bugging me for a while now; the oil pressure gauge! Although none standard just looks so untidy and out of place in a bracket riveted to the crash panel. I think we can do so much better than this by getting rid of it and fitted an MGA Jaeger oil and temperature #DualGauge neatly within the dashboard

    Nice job Steve. Glad to see the little leather washer going in.

      Cheers Sean, it's the little details like that than can cause the biggest amount of grief if forgotten

    Nicely done Steve! I appreciate your attention to detail. I think having the oil pressure gauge is a big improvement on these cars and the dual gauge looks much more at home on your dash than the previous setup. (especially where it was staring you in the face every time you were behind the wheel). Be well!

      Cheers mate, that oil gauge riveted in place has been bugging me since I brought the car, at least now with the dual gauge it looks so much neater with all the gauges in one place 👍🏻

    I’ve always liked the look of those dual gauges. Nice job.

    You forgot to show us that you had to plug the diagnostics in to tell the car, yes you disconnected the battery and yes you did reconnect it and now you want to recode the key as it lost the memory 😂🤣, nice world and vid as always bud

      Haha, I’ve thought about doing a spoof video on a classic cars and modern cars as a parody for a laugh before now. All I can say is watch this space

    Great tip on the capillary tube!

    Another good one Steve. So have you added a gauge that otherwise wasn't there or put something back in that was missing? 🤔

      Cheers mate, originally Spitfires never had oil pressure gauges. The one I removed was just bodged into place. The solution is either go back to original and get rid of the oil pressure gauge, or have one and make it look tidy with a dual gauge. It’s a good conversion, as it keeps all the gauges all in one place making it look somewhat factory, even though it’s modified

    When you got drill out l thought " don't you drill through that wiring Captain Mainwarring! " Are the other gauges Jeager? Although the 6's have a peculiarity of having the odd Smiths oil guage? Nice one Steve. Take care and stay safe.

      Cheers John, the 1960's Mk3 Spitfire's only had Jaeger Gauges. Which does puts the price up on the dual gauge Jaeger style over the Smiths equivalent. Annoying really for just for a label when in effect the dual gauge is the same behind the label. It is what it is, and as I want all my gauges to match and not look out of place so in that respect it then becomes bittersweet. Take care and stay safe my friend 👍

    I've got one too somewhere, for my GT6. Did you have to install a new temperature sensor?

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It comes as part of the gauge. As a Triumph originally works with a electric temp sensor, a dual gauge works off capillary action, and comes with a bulb on the end. When you convert the gauge over you have to discard and tape odd the original wires, bin the temperature sensor and replace it with the bulb that’s permanently part of the gauge

      @@SteveDentonClassics Good to know. I hope the one I bought a few years ago has the bulb! I can tell you where it is (storage bin #4) but the last I saw it it was wrapped in bubble wrap... someday when it's time to get to the dash I'll install it.

      It came with that on it when I brought the car, I keep meaning peal off the Halfords stickers and to get some Lucas stickers to put on it 👍
