I got my left hand side wisdom tooth cavity drilled out then filled last October & the dentist was going to pull that tooth out after my jaw was X rayed because my first molar was killing me particularly when I chewed on hot or cold food.
That fixed the pain up but the gum on around my first molar tooth has flared up & it gives me an uncomfortable nights sleep unless I take a few aspirin so I might have to see the dentist again when I get a job,I hope it isn't due to a cracked tooth.
I harvested some purple yam that I planted last June in only a 250mm plant pot,I bought a plant & the seller on eBay threw in a few extra cuttings as well, the seller was based near Maitland in New South Wales which isn't far from where I live & the tubers didn't grow very big.
I think that it was because the pot was way too small so they didn't grow very big despite growing them right through summer until March & in full sunlight,my vine was much more vigorous as well, maybe because you planted yours later on.
Mine were the actual purple fleshed yams, not the white fleshed purple sweet potato that you can buy at the supermarket.
I replanted the roots back into a new grow bag like you have got & I also rooted the excess vines that I trimmed off in water then I planted them in another bag, they will survive through winter but they won't give me a crop until next January or February, they're bland tasting when they're steamed but they would taste better when they're roasted or even turned into salted potato chips.
I am also rooting a sweet potato which I bought from Woolworths, it's sitting inside & sprouting leaves since I have the end of the sweet potato sitting in a jar of water.
So I will have some sweet potato 🍠 & purple yam to eat late this coming summer time !

I’m the same, I try not to use animal products including manures - You could feed them some comfrey tea every couple of weeks. I make a tithonia/comfrey tea. I haven’t tried growing kūmara yet but will try this coming spring

I'll look into comfrey again, I grew it 20 years ago. Good reminder.

I think the only problem was time. If you put them in around October, you’d get a higher yield.

My son bought me a hanging pot. So I've put sweet potato cuttings into the pot. It can grow sweet potatoes in the pot. 😊. It's so easy to grow and cheaper than potatoes at the shop.

Try eating those small ones. In the garden I have them . And as the vine grows I bury them stems. I have just started doing this in last 4 months when friends gave us young sweet potatoes.
