    I have painted terracotta pots years ago and wasn't that excited about the way they turned out because of the many coats needed for coverage. I'd like to give these paints a try. Your project turned out super cute! So glad you shared it. Would you be interested in creating a dragonfly out of old ceiling fan blades sometime? It would be fun seeing how you would design that project. tfs! ~Hugs~

    Just a thought, Seal Clay pots with a clear seal inside and out before painting with acrylic paints, then finish with a clear seal. This will keep your paints for a long time.

    Is this acrylic paint? Should the inside of pots be painted and must a varnish be used?

    • @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio
      @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a type of acrylic paint specifically for outdoor use. The pots are best unpainted inside so they can balance the water absorption. I did not varnish them and they still look great years later.

    I just found this video and I just love how your pots turned out!! I am not an artist, but have a very crafty heart. I think I can do this and I was wondering if you would be willing to share what the exact colors you used on these pots? I am actually a rubber stamper (paper craft) so I think I might even be able to figure out how you made all of those cool stamps!! Thank you for sharing your talent!

    • @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio
      @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you :) This was a fun project and they are still outside in the hot AZ sun and going strong a couple years later. The link to the DIY and Decor paint is below the video and the colors I used and my colors were goldie and amber as well as a sage color that they no longer make. I would go for jade as your third color..it would be gorgeous.

    • @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio
      @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kriz. This paint is acrylic based paint made for outdoor applications. You can just use regular craft paint for what I did with these pots...but it probably won't last as long outside. This video is maybe 4 years old and those pots are still outside in the Arizona sun and they still look nice. The plants died though LOL

      Thank you Ayesha :) This product was a acrylic polymer based paint that was designed for outdoors. However, it is no longer available as the company has closed. Other acrylic paint or latex paint will work for this project.

    dont need expensive paint for this , walmart sells it for 50 cents a bottle and then you can let it dry and spray it with clear spray paint, will save ya a lot of money or modge podge it

      Thank you Anthony. That is true..however these have been outside on my glass table in the Arizona desert for 3 years now and still look new. So the paint was worth it.

  • @timeenuf4200
    @timeenuf4200 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fun indeed! So many great tool ideas. To help with paint (over) absorption I've heard sanding the pots and a few coats of gesso will help. Also using enamel paints likeDecoArt Patio Paint or DecoArt's Multi-surface Satin Acrylic paint work very well on terra cotta. I think both are UV resistant for your outdoor products. Thanks for sharing your time, talent, and inspiration.

    • @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio
      @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Eileen :) These pots have been outside in the Arizona sun now for 3 years and still look exactly the same..except my plants died due to neglect. I just used the Tattered Angels DIY and Decor paint and it was perfect for this project. Sadly, they are discontinuing this paint for 2019.

    Awesome idea really I liked to appreciate these idea. Mam bit confused I m from India. Where to get these colour and price. Hope it will not harm the plants? Please guide me want to do.

    • @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio
      @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Priyanka :) These pots were done with a brand of acrylic paint. You can do this with any craft paint that is available in your area. It won't do anything to the plants. You could also use the kind of paint that you would use to paint the outside of a building. Just keep the paint on the outside of the pot.

    • @addicetd2hellangel
      @addicetd2hellangel 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank u mam these acrilic paint will be available in paint shop? I heard oil paint ts bad for plants.I hv got lots of cement pot, terracotta , but u hv solved my problem ur work is appreciable..By take care.

    • @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio
      @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, acrylic paint should be available in a paint shop or crafting shop. The base of this paint is more like a plastic or rubber so it seals up the pot and doesn't bleed into the soil. I would recommend to just paint the sides of the pot and not the bottom to let water out.

  • @juliescrapbook
    @juliescrapbook 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    What did you use to seal and waterproof the pots? Cute project!

    • @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio
      @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Julie :) I used this polyurethane sealer... it is what I use for outdoor stuff and had it for a long time :) I did not go guy anything special. Really the paint seemed to seal up the pots really well and I was not even sure if I needed to spray it..but erred on the side of caution. amzn.to/29hc24d

    • @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio
      @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am guessing you mean the home made stamps. They are fun foam sheets cut into little shapes with scissors and then stuck to the flat side of water bottle lids. Thanks for watching.

    • @joyceleonard7231
      @joyceleonard7231 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio
      @ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joyceleonard7231 I used the thin ones from the craft section that are self adhesive. I just stacked one on top of the other before cutting to make them more thick. It was easy with them being already stick on the backs.

      I did not seal them as the Home and Decor paint does that for me. They are still outside on my table and have not bubbled or faded at all even in the desert heat over several seasons.
