Excellent tip about which hand to use and why. Not until I got further alone in agility did I realize how much my perceived body direction influenced my dogs. It's such a revelation! It's fundamental to communication, even just moving through the house, but I never thought about adding it to this exercise. Thank you so much for this video!
@@BaebeasDogTrainingPortland Yes! One of the most revelatory exercises for me as a student was the challenge to run my dog without verbal commands while keeping my hands behind my back. One of the smoothest runs ever. Karen Holick and Mary Ellen Barry talk about "chest lasers," which makes me giggle. But yeah, it helps to realize our dogs are watching our entire bodies. As humans, we communicate mainly with our voices and hands, but we need to become aware of our shoulders and hips.
@@LisaLanserRose some trainers will say to point your feet in the direction you want your dog to go, but just like people, dogs don’t pay attention to feet because some dogs toe out and some dogs toe in.

@@LisaLanserRose i tell people to forget about directing a dog, but instead think about how they shift posture when they move and change direction.
