@@Zirin-md7pg The paw lifting is one of the calming signals dogs use to communicate uncertainty/discomfort. Naturally, each dog is an individual. Not all dogs use all signals, and some dogs are better at the body language than others. But just observe friendly dogs meeting other dogs - some of them will lift one of their front paws. Other such signals include things like quick licking of lips, turning the head sideways, the whole dog turning sideways or even facing away from the other dog, laying down on their belly, pointedly looking away from the other dogs eyes, "pointless" sniffing of the ground, marking/peeing without actually needing to pee etc. Essentially a dog using these signals is trying to defuse a situation it finds awkward or stressful. If these signals fail to solve the problem, the dog moves on to threats (barking, growling, staring, rigid posture, ears laid back...) and if even those don't work, it will eventually move on to aggression.
@@Zirin-md7pg in this context where she's terribly stressed, the paw thing likely means 'please give me space and dont touch me here' which makes sense because this was in response to being touched around her head/chest area - the same spots where she bit the equipment, if it got too close to these areas. it could be a current or previous injury or illness like you said. i think most dogs don't like objects or hands being waved around or getting into their space around their heads so i get the impression it's something she is unfamiliar/scared of. it seems no one has done counter conditioning with Lulu :/

They're one of the small dogs that aren't too hard to find in my country (NZ). Normally they have a smoosh face like pugs etc so whatever she's mixed with has contributed to that long muzzle that makes her probably a lot healthier than purebreds. They can be pretty stubborn and independent at times but they're also really sensitive and shy of strangers if you don't socialise them and can be kind of cat-like even to the point of liking to climb up on things like windowsills! It's one of the breeds that I could plausibly handle the exercise needs of but I don't think I'd be good at the socialising and grooming requirements plus I don't like short muzzles for health reasons so they're fairly low on my list.

So I was across the yard from his crate a few weeks ago, he was barking a bunch, I gave him The Look and Command Tone and said "Troy, Relax" and without me knowing he really knew that word, he just laid down and leaned against the crate door with a dramatic huff, (and then started giving me the look like "this is what you wanted from me, right?" She's a cutie. Her coat sure looks a lot like our rescue Tibby's. He also hates being dried by hair drier. We usually let him dry himself by laying down towels and he rolls around. Double coat takes hours to dry! He will only tolerate brushing when my wife is walking him. They are very stubborn and eccentric dogs.
who knows "behavioral issues" stands for " I really just wanted to get it done FAST I hurt her and then she was scared after that" thats for me sometimes what it could be FOR SURE bc my lord shes an absolute sweetheart, id check her last groomer if i were the owner
Absolutely this. When I first rescued my dog, we took her to a groomer and mentioned she had anxiety and it was her first groom. My dog is only 43 lbs and they spent 3.5 hours on her because they did everything so slowly, with lots of pets and baby talk, and lots of breaks. THAT is a good groomer! Doing it fast just doesn't always work.
That I think is one of the reasons why many of small dogs (yorkies, chihuahuas,...) have such neurotic behavior. Their owners often simply overpowered them when they needed something (need to take out that small stick or piece of grass stuck deeply in your coat? I simply take you into my hands, forcefuly hold you and do it quickly and forcefuly, despite your protests - which I consider cute anyway), so no wonder they often act like this. I mean, you wouldn´t do this with german shephard or golden retriever - there you would pay attention to what your dog does (because let´s be honest, growling kinda IS more menacing coming from GS then from chihuahua), do it more slowly, maybe with help of treats or things to distract the dog, at least partialy. Also you wouldn´t be restricting his freedom of movement, at least not to as much degree.
Yeah, idk what her experiences have been with other groomers or people before her current owners, but this poor baby is reacting like she was absolutely traumatized at one point 😢
She’s sweet and spicy! The way she kept holding up her paw. Her little bark! The way she tried to bite the shower nozzle and blow dryer. Just everything about her was so cute!

Very frickin cute! That coat makes me think there's some sheltie in her DNA
She’s sweet and spicy! The way she kept holding up her paw. Her little bark! The way she tried to bite the shower nozzle and blow dryer. Just everything about her was so cute!
10:10 "Fluff this!!" - Lulu, probably. My god, she looked gorgeous at the end of the video. What a cutie. I hope she will eventually find spa days enjoyable!
I love how patient and accommodating you ware for this dog 😍🥰
I love her and all her spicyness

Bless you, Lulu really needed you.
She's so pretty!
We've met Mayo's match 😅
Suchva sweet pup overall.. I wonder if she will get better at it if she comes to you more, considering this is only her second groom.
I love watching your vidoes, they always make me happy❤ I enjoy these videos every day, seeing the notification always makes me smile ❤❤
Aww. Lulu. This episode proves that if you use all the tools at your disposal, ultimately with patience, you can perform a successful groom. Especially in the hands of an experienced groomer like Vanessa. Thank you for sharing this.
Again, you are SO good at the psychology of the dog and SKILLED getting the job done. WELL DONE!!!
Lulu is quite adorable along with being a beauty.
It is so sweet to watch your rapport with her to see that albeit it is difficult she is willing to let you care for her.
She reminds me of a giant Carmello chocolate candy when you were drying her.
Those colors are like pure Carmel. She has a gorgeous coat. Great job Vanessa under the circumstances. ❤
I like how many tricks you have and love how many chances you gave her.
Another MASTERPIECE BY Vanessa and what an adorable baby!!❤❤
I have a Tibetan Spaniel and I absolutely LOVE the breed!
She’s beautiful inside and out. The world needs more people like you, Vanessa. Thanks for caring for the precious babies 🐶 🐈

She looks like a Keeshond/Sheltie mix. What a cutie!
