@@MrSuperfrat mana base with fast mana, dual/shock/fetch lands, ancient tomb, etc., tutors such as demonic, vampiric, and enlightened tutor. Some standard staples like Esperanto sentinel and teferis protection.
Jaheira, Friend of the Forest seems so good she should be in the original upgrade list. Marionette Master should probably be in there too unless it's just much of a flavor fail and obvious. People wanting to build around Bilbo's 111 life ability probably want Ajani, Mentor of Heroes, Whip of Erebos, Soul's Attendant, and Soul Warden.
Another suggestion for this deck is a new card from this set called Call of the Ring. It helps Frodo get to 2 tempts pretty quickly if you play it turn 2, frodo turn 3, and turn 4 you'll have 2 tempts. It also draws you an extra card whenever you get tempted, so in a way it doubles Frodo's draws
Glad to see the deck upgrades. I'm going to build this deck but I am strictly trying to make this a very flavorful LoTR deck. There are some cards that I will add that are from other sets but glad to see that alot of people are enjoying The Hobbit Duo first and foremost
Nothing wrong with going all on on LotR for this one! A lot of the Food support in the upgrades came from the LotR set and the deck is pretty strong out of the box - so you can have the deck be flavorful and still be good at the table for sure!
This is my favorite precon of the set. Really liking the upgrades, but I may sacrifice some better synergies in favor of flavor, keeping some of the worse cards just so it is only an LoTR stuffed deck. Thanks for the input!
this looks to be the most fun deck flavor wise... pun intended. I wish that you or anyone would also try and make an upgrade guide for one of these decks with cards just from the LOTR set to keep it in universe, even if academy manufactor is so good in this precon

You are correct! Sadly this was a mistake included in the MTG Goldfish page for the precons as they released that was not corrected until after the video was made, so I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
I used to scoff at food decks, but man, this upgrade makes the deck pretty cool. Also, figured I'd also suggest squeezing Marionette Master in here. It'll definitely make your opponents sweat when you start sacrificing food tokens.

Love the changes! The one card I’m surprised didn’t get mentioned is Disciple of the Vault. I thought it would be a shoe-in given the sheer volume of food tokens this deck can make, coupled with its low cost mana and price-wise
You bring us a good point - Disciple of the Vault would certainly be right at home in this build. It has low power and weaponizes our food, so I can easily see it slotting in. Great suggestion!
In the same vein Nadier’s Nightblade would be a good add as well. Also since you added Nykthos Paragon, it plays well with Marionette Master as the counters make the Master’s power larger and this dealing more damage.
Happy to hear that you enjoyed it! Honestly, there was just so much food centered stuff in the new set that is wasn't too hard to stay in the "Lord of the Rings" flavor for this one (With just a handful of outliers).

I agree that if we want an additional way to weaponize our food vs pumping our board - Marionette Master can easily be slotted into the CMC 6 slot over Nykthos Paragon.

Not bad but the food can be weaponised even more with adding Jaheira, Friend of the Forest to the deck which will speed up so many of the win conditions. For example Mirkwood bats + Academy Mnaufactor on the board. Stockpile the food/clue/treasure so you can tap x = 10 for Farmer cotton and generate 10 food/treasure/clues from Academy Manufactor + 10 halfing tokens = 40 damage to each opponent. Agent of the Iron throne as well, coupled with sac'ing clue tokens and the mana to do so with Jaheira is very powerful due to double commanders.
It would probably just be to convoluted to do, but I want to add Attractions to this deck and have Swinging Ship. That way we can refer to additional combat steps as "second breakfast" 😁
Can't wait for the Commander Masters' lists. I think you could make probably 3 videos out of the Enchantment commander ALONE! With strategies still not touched! (honest, i think all of the LOTR precons are super weak and boring)
Thoughts on "Agent of the Iron Throne"? Considering you'll have 2 commanders and various different ways of sacrificing lots of artifacts at once, I'd imagine that could take all your opponents' life totals down pretty fast. And, as a slightly stranger suggestion, "Tayam, Luminous Enigma"? It's probably not the ideal card but I happen to own one and I'm wondering if it's worth adding, considering the low mana curve and the fact that a lot of the creatures enter with counters on already.
Wait, new Grazzet vid already?! Didn't we just have one? Smells like yet another Dina, Stew Steeper deck; she combos with a hand sandwich as is. I think for new players or folks that like to try a ton of different things, Grazz is the one to follow. I've often taken a Grazz build and morphed it into something far scarier
Yep, with the Precon Upgrades, I like to get them out as quickly as possible, so look forward to a extra episode or 2 coming soon! And yeah, these build can easily be used as building blocks to refine and tweek over time with increased budgets or with cards that better fit your playstyle / playgroup - so hopefully new players find them useful!
Love your videos! They have got me back to magic after 20 years and helped me break into commander. I was wondering why you set the base deck price at only $30? At my game store they were $60 and even on Amazon they are $52 a piece if you order all 4. Anyway, keep up the content. You rock man!

If I wanted to slot in Witch of the Moors, Nadier’s Nightblade, Cauldron Familiar and Disciple of the Vault what would be your recommendations for swaps? I like the idea of using my food as damage and would rather lean into that.
Nice, tis one of the precons I'm buying. I REALLY want to keep it a strictly LotR deck, but sacrifices might have to be made. I also feel like Merry and Pippin m8ght be better than Frodo/Sam?
Great guide as always! Hosts of Mordor will be an interesting guide to watch since the primary commander [[Sauron, Lord of the Rings]] is more a reanimator strategy but for 9 CMC while the secondary commander [[Saruman, the White Hand]] is more spellslinger/orc tribal. To add an extra twist, it does not come in the precon but [[Sauron, the Dark Lord]] comes out in the LTR set and is fighting for a top spot with how good it is! I may put the Dark lord as my commander, not certain yet!
Wouldn't Archangel of Thune's ability only proc once per food token. Looking at Gatherer it seems like it only procs per "life gain event" not per life.
What do you think about the cauldron familiar combo with sam (the one whit kids on the art) and viscera seer? Is it more cEDH the deck if i am considering it?
I am unsure if I am missing something but I am going through my pre-con and path to exile is already in here and I can't find some other cards? Am I missing something?
Sorry about the confusion - I was using the Decklist Provided by MTG Goldfish for the Precons as soon as they dropped - www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/the-lord-of-the-rings-tales-of-middle-earth-commander-decklists - and at the time of release they had incorrectly included Sylvan Offering instead of Path to Exile.
i upgradde my deck with your changes, excep pararel lives and anoited procession. yesterday bought a set boster of eldrain collection and I got a necropotence, an ashiok, how would you see that combo in this deck when it can generate many lives?
It seems like I may have gotten a print error in my copy of the deck. Instead of a Sylvan Offering, I got a Path to Exile in the box. Not complaining, but I doubt everyone who got an error was so lucky
i got the same thing, i think the deck lists these youtubers are using are just a little wrong there, i've seen two other channels make the same mistake with the same cards
If you want to focus more on the combo kill with Samwise Gamgee - I would recommend cutting Essence Warden (whose passive lifegain is less good for the combo kill) and Feasting Hobbit (whose food consumption is decent but again, is better for a longer game than the combo kill). Hope that helps!
Why does Archangel of Thune give +3/+3 for every food token cracked? I'm pretty sure it counts as a single life gain and you can only put +1/+1 on all creatures, sounds broken otherwise

Glad to hear it! I pesonally love the Universes Beyond stuff (the Warhammer 40k stuff was my favorite by far) so its nice to see folks warming up to it - though I still understand why folks would be against it.
Weird... I used the deck lists spoiled by MTGGoldfish - www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/the-lord-of-the-rings-tales-of-middle-earth-commander-decklists - so if those are inaccurate, I apologize.
When playing with Partner commanders - they are both in the command zone (track their commander tax seperatly) & the color identity of the deck is the colors of both commanders combined (in this case - white, black, and green).
That is a valid concern. Personally, I didn't run across any mana issues when testing (since Sam, Loyal Attendant dies a good job at reducing the cost of us cracking our food and the builds ramp package is very solid out of the gate), but bumping it up to 36 lands just to be safe is perfectly valid.
That's my bad! Must have been an oversight when writing the script for this one - which I suppose sometimes slips through the cracks when trying to get these our as fast as possible. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

I absolutely LOVE this deck! Food is such an underrated token especially with life gain.

I got this precon and with a few upgrades from the main set, the deck can be outright terrifying. One card I'd also recommend adding is Meriadoc.

Really nice upgrades. I would put marionette master instead of Nykthos Paragon imo. 4 life loss each time you crack a food token is nice.
I would also try to find a slot for witch of the moor to recur some of our creatures.
Oh that’s a good one! I put together his Braids deck that had it in the list and it can really put the hurt on opponents

Witch of the Moors would also make a solid addition as a way for us to recur our creatures while forcing our opponents to sac theirs every turn.
Don't forget to pair Marionette Master with Nettlecyst. With the way the deck amass food tokens, it's gonna be bonkers 😆

I have a few things similar to the treefolk. Gaining life giving +1+1 counters. Making frodo huge fast

I think for new players or folks that like to try a ton of different things, Grazz is the one to follow. I've often taken a Grazz build and morphed it into something far scarier
Yep, with the Precon Upgrades, I like to get them out as quickly as possible, so look forward to a extra episode or 2 coming soon!
And yeah, these build can easily be used as building blocks to refine and tweek over time with increased budgets or with cards that better fit your playstyle / playgroup - so hopefully new players find them useful!
Path of exile is already in the deck
Love your videos! They have got me back to magic after 20 years and helped me break into commander. I was wondering why you set the base deck price at only $30? At my game store they were $60 and even on Amazon they are $52 a piece if you order all 4. Anyway, keep up the content. You rock man!

Regarding the deck prices - I deck price I set it to is $40 base then add in $35 worth of upgrades. As for how I determine the price, usually its based on the cheapest I can find - which is usually through GameNerdz - www.gamenerdz.com/magic-the-gathering-the-lord-of-the-rings-tales-of-middle-earth-commander-deck-set-of-4

If I wanted to slot in Witch of the Moors, Nadier’s Nightblade, Cauldron Familiar and Disciple of the Vault what would be your recommendations for swaps? I like the idea of using my food as damage and would rather lean into that.
Nice, tis one of the precons I'm buying. I REALLY want to keep it a strictly LotR deck, but sacrifices might have to be made. I also feel like Merry and Pippin m8ght be better than Frodo/Sam?
Great guide as always! Hosts of Mordor will be an interesting guide to watch since the primary commander [[Sauron, Lord of the Rings]] is more a reanimator strategy but for 9 CMC while the secondary commander [[Saruman, the White Hand]] is more spellslinger/orc tribal. To add an extra twist, it does not come in the precon but [[Sauron, the Dark Lord]] comes out in the LTR set and is fighting for a top spot with how good it is! I may put the Dark lord as my commander, not certain yet!
Wouldn't Archangel of Thune's ability only proc once per food token. Looking at Gatherer it seems like it only procs per "life gain event" not per life.
What do you think about the cauldron familiar combo with sam (the one whit kids on the art) and viscera seer? Is it more cEDH the deck if i am considering it?
I think the deck needs more ways to be tempted in order for Frodo to draw that card. But that’s just me?
Do you think combining this precon and strixhavens weatherbloom would be good? If so could you maybe make a deck id love to see that

Sorry about the confusion - I was using the Decklist Provided by MTG Goldfish for the Precons as soon as they dropped - www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/the-lord-of-the-rings-tales-of-middle-earth-commander-decklists - and at the time of release they had incorrectly included Sylvan Offering instead of Path to Exile.
Gyome, Master Chef has not sky rocketed in price for some reason, don't know if it's because of this deck

i upgradde my deck with your changes, excep pararel lives and anoited procession. yesterday bought a set boster of eldrain collection and I got a necropotence, an ashiok, how would you see that combo in this deck when it can generate many lives?

So i live in Britain and for some reason sylvian offering has already been replaced with path to exile. Like it's already there
It seems like I may have gotten a print error in my copy of the deck. Instead of a Sylvan Offering, I got a Path to Exile in the box. Not complaining, but I doubt everyone who got an error was so lucky
i got the same thing, i think the deck lists these youtubers are using are just a little wrong there, i've seen two other channels make the same mistake with the same cards

Im looking at adding viscera seer and cauldron familiar to make the combo with samwise, what would you recommend cutting to add them?
If you want to focus more on the combo kill with Samwise Gamgee - I would recommend cutting Essence Warden (whose passive lifegain is less good for the combo kill) and Feasting Hobbit (whose food consumption is decent but again, is better for a longer game than the combo kill). Hope that helps!

Why does Archangel of Thune give +3/+3 for every food token cracked? I'm pretty sure it counts as a single life gain and you can only put +1/+1 on all creatures, sounds broken otherwise

Glad to hear it! I pesonally love the Universes Beyond stuff (the Warhammer 40k stuff was my favorite by far) so its nice to see folks warming up to it - though I still understand why folks would be against it.

When playing with Partner commanders - they are both in the command zone (track their commander tax seperatly) & the color identity of the deck is the colors of both commanders combined (in this case - white, black, and green).

That is a valid concern. Personally, I didn't run across any mana issues when testing (since Sam, Loyal Attendant dies a good job at reducing the cost of us cracking our food and the builds ramp package is very solid out of the gate), but bumping it up to 36 lands just to be safe is perfectly valid.

That's my bad! Must have been an oversight when writing the script for this one - which I suppose sometimes slips through the cracks when trying to get these our as fast as possible.

Cara, seguinte. Esse vídeo que ele fez tem o objetivo de melhorar o Precon dos Hobbits (Food and Fellowship), a ideia é aproveitar ao máximo do deck original, mantendo os comandantes e afins, e trocando algumas cartas que existem versões mais fortes e/ou que combinem mais com o deck.
