Wrote this in a few other replies - when the Chinese factories do the ISO/fatigue testing they use a rigid steel link in place of the shock. They never use a shock. So in theory the frame is validated for these higher peak loads.

Family business is CNC machining. Material costs have gone wild since COVID, and have since begun to return to normal.
We do OE production for a major japanese motorcycle manufacturer, and the vast majority of the expense of any of the items we produce is time, not really materials, so I have a hard time buying that major fluctuations in retail prices are due to material cost.
I could be, and probably am wrong though. Every part and application is different.

Since UAE ditched Campagnolo they haven't had a groupset sponsor to my knowledge, so they are just buying retail Shimano. I'd guess this is to enable precisely these kinds of non standard components. They've also used non-shimano carbon chainrings at some point. What's even stranger than these adapters, is that they use the Shimano power meter even though they don't have to.

Replacing the rear shock with a static piece is much less convenient than having a front+back lockout system, unless you are 100% certain there will be no rough patches. Sounds like a race-specific optimisation, since it removes a few grams on specific routes without the hassle of switching the bike.
There are suspension lockouts which cover the rear and the front using one lever. Scott and Cannondale offer such setups from the factory, and after-market splitters exist. Highly recommended if your MTB riding involves lots of pedalling sections, not just one climb to do one descent. The partial lockout position makes a full suspension bike feel like a hardtail (hello, gravel trail), and the full lockout is nice on any tarmac connectors.

Campagnolo just added three more batteries who's charging levels want to get monitored,
so YOU with your camera and mike would ahead of a ride now have to check:
    - camera
    - mike
    - phone
    - head-unit
    - backlight
    - frontlight (me, as I use to return in darkness)
    - 3x Campa Super Record
    = 9 items.
I converted most bikes to hub dynos with internal cables to front and backlight, have no head unit or camera
so have to care "only" for
    - phone and
    - emergency backlight.
I fail to have both of them charged properly always more often than not...
There will soon be a time, when the most hyped innovation in bike parts will be a groupset, with friction optimized mechanical drive, that you can feed through integrated stem/headsets, as is already possible with some patience today with a standard mechanical groupset and Nokon- hulls.
    Argument:
    "Just enjoy riding your bike"...
Campa will find a way to make it even more expensive...

The Nylon-infused carbon rims seem pretty interesting. But I wonder if the "recyclability" aspect will make any difference at all in reality. So they may very well end up in the same landfill as every other carbon rim.

Do you think there's any structural risk when removing the suspension from a flex-stay linkage? I assume that failure on those is only a risk when pushed beyond their intended travel rather than facing undamped impacts. But, I figured that the reason we'll never see lockout shock replacements is because of the potential warranty nightmares companies would deal with when 200lb customers launch their XC bikes off huge features with a lockout bar installed.

    • @PeakTorque
      @PeakTorque  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Great point. I guess they won't offer it to the market. However, when the Chinese factories validate these frames on the fatigue rigs, they always use a fully rigid steel link (never a shock). So in theory they are validated to this kind of load.

    • @glennoc8585
      @glennoc8585 ปีที่แล้ว

If the mounting points are well engineered the should be no less able with a rigid interface strut. Some energy is absorbed with the suspension and transmitted in heat which would reduce transfer of energy through the frame but only marginal. Fatigue from torsion might be a concern if the strut is Inferior to purpose.im sure Cervelo have bench cycled the frame and strut with a decent margin.

They claim a rim (44-30.5/25) weight of 435g
    Almost equivalent LB rims:
    AR 45 (45-30/21): standard: 460g, flyweight: 390g
    WR 38 (38-32.4/25) : standard : 440g, flyweight: 395g
Flyweight rims has a 90kg max weight limit.
    Almost equivalent FS rims:
    Gravel series FS45/30g (45-30/25): 420g
    Revo series 42CM-30T-SUD (42-30/24): 420g
For the record a Schmolke rim would be:

If/when I go disc it would be hard to stay with Campagnolo given cost/option - remember riding santini gf 2017 & can say 34x29 up the Stelvio with 3000mtrs in the legs is ferkin hard work, would be but easier on a 32

The patent specifies interchangeable batteries between the FD and RD. which the SR WL batteries aren’t. It also specifies a releasable retaining mechanism on the base member of the derailleur. The SR WL batteries themselves have the release, not the derailleurs. Furthermore since the batteries have external contacts for cable based charging, they could potentially be treated as permanently attached.

Engineering wise having a full suspension that doesn't move IS going to break the rear end with regular use. For a one off or for a team that replace bikes regularly then that's fine. But for use every day the rear stays are going to be over stressed and possible damage to bearing housing if they are carbon.
Re: campag prices. It's only marginally more expensive than Shimano Dura-ace (well ok almost a full K more) but cranks won't fall apart . All internals are replaceable and completely wireless with micro switches that are quite robust. Plus a full carbon crank. @@rosomak8244 Careful, your inner durian rider is leaking, you should seek help before you turn into the guy full time.
Instead of random bullshit that you spew without any knowledge behind it, let's talk about facts:
      1. Disc brakes have better modality.
      2. Disc brakes do not require as much force applied on brake levers.
Are bikes with disc brakes heavier? Yes, by 300-400 grams. Is that weight significant in any way or form? No, unless all you literally do is climb 10%+ hills and then take a helicopter ride home.
Can disc brakes fail? Yes, but so can rim brakes, especially considering that rim brakes literally wear down your rims (unless you propose stopping all the time to clean brake pads).
Are disc brakes better in the wet? Yes, especially with carbon wheels.
Do disc brakes require maintenance? Yes, but so do rim brakes - pads and braking surface have to be cleaned periodically to prevent premature wear on the rims, cables and their housing get just as much as with mechanical disc brakes.
You're mentioning stiff forks, but let's not ignore stuff like rim brakes being a limiting factor when designing wheels
