I should note Dana Terrace said Belos originally gave all the grimwalkers their own unique names, but eventually he stopped trying and started naming all of them Hunter, as a little joke about them being an unknowing witch hunter
I’m sorry but the line “If we need to find a way we’ll find a way” from Camilla regarding the possibility of the witch kids drinking blood was so wholesome
I'm not sure if you already know this, but I didn't notice it until someone pointed it out. Hunter doesn't have eye bags in the epilogue, and that fact has yet to fail to make me emotional.
One thing I personally appreciated was that Eberwolf was included in the reunion with Hunter. Why is this important to me? Because it shows that being someone's parent isn't a requirement to parent them. Darius may have taken custody and guardianship of Hunter but it's clear that Eberwolf is meant to be an important part of Hunter's life.
I'm with the collector, Eda has more of a cool aunt vibe to me. I'm not a mom, I'm never going to be a mom (I don't want that responsibility and don't believe I should) I used to say "I'm not your mom, I'm the aunt who lets you stay up late eating junk food and watching horror movies, and will always tell you that you can do anything your set your mind to" Basically the person I needed growing up. Then Owl House comes along and I see Eda and knew "This is who I want to be when I grow up" (I'm 37 now) it is amazing to me to see this older woman, who doesn't have it all together, who struggles with her disability still, she makes mistakes, owns up to them and believes completely in the young people who look up to her. And more importantly, Tells them that she believes in them. (with a side of being an anarchist fighting fascism as well) Eda is absolutely the character I needed to see in media to feel valid and to inspire me.
I don't understand how ANYONE could think Camila was a bad mother, even at the start. She just struggled to understand her child, and understanding can be hard for ANYONE to do. And she didn't want to outright change Luz's personality, Camila just wanted her to learn some self-discipline to keep Luz from accidentally hurting others with her antics. It's a completely reasonable thing to do that's obvious from episode one, and the fact that people STILL didn't get that is infuriating.
This is especially shown in how literally no one said that Eda was abusing King despite her behaviour being worst (and I don't think she was abusing King I just thing it's interesting how the fandom reacted to them)
Also I think it's because in a lot of these stories the family is iver non existent or abusive but even how Lus acts you can tell she lovers her mother

Just as he could have definitely chosen to stay in the human realm with Camila Noceda. I love that at the end of the day, Hunter had options of where he could go and he was the one who chose Darius as his main guardian.
I think a good chunk of why Eda told King the stories about himself. She might've thought it was an innocent game of pretend and didn't realize it was genuinely shaping his world view.

In terms of the Blights, THEIR relationship struck me as a sort of "arranged marriage" situation; particularly a business oriented one. What I mean is most arranged marriages are performed by royalty, where one side hopes to either gain more land or a strong alliance through the union of the children. With Alador and Odalia, on the other hand; it feels like the moment Al developed a desire to use his Abomination skills as a business venture, HIS parents may have felt he was...too flaky to take such a job seriously. Thus, he was paired with Odalia; a firm, tight-fisted and more focused individual who could (presumably) lead Alador down the right path. But as we came to see, all she did was milk off his company to further her own interests; one of which involved the destruction of all life on the Isles. This was one of my favorite parts of the show. Through my parents, I experienced both a repaired parental relationship and one that was never repaired. My nana, dad's bio-mom, used to be an alcoholic. It was so bad that she lost custody of all three of her children in the mid 1900s. That's not easy for a mom to do, even today. But she got help and was able to reconnect with her sons. I think my uncle asking her who she was when she first returned, he was too young to remember her, kept her on the straight and narrow for the rest of her life, and at the end of it, we morned her death. My material grandmother had severe mental problems. They were so bad that she drove her younger child to hard drugs that eventually killed him. She never thought help for any of them and remained abusive to my mother till the very end. Even during the very least month of her life, she yelled at my mother, and my mother was scared for our safety around her. We celebrated her death. It was the best Christmas present I received that year.
It's really sad when someone's family member is so awful that their death is worth celebrating by the family. I'm glad you're family is free of your Maternal Grandmother. And I'm glad your Nana became a better person and someone worth morning the loss of.
In my personal TOH postcanon, Hunter is alternating living with Darius and at the owl house. Both giving rep to all the kids and teens who alternate between homes and are perfectly happy with that, and also giving rise to the hilarious scenario of Darius and Eda co-parenting Hunter.
0:58 Yeah, even though they try to paint Eda as a (reluctant) mother figure of sorts, she always felt more like the badass, super cool aunt that most parents try to steer their kids clear of & I know Lilith was given the title of Auntie within this family but she felt more like the Adorkable aunt that teaches you fascinating little life tidbits but in a cool way (as Luz said). Aunties can be just as loving even if their role is different to a mother’s.
Thinking about the Wittebanes, Caleb and Phillip were also a family and Caleb was the, too young, caretaker of Phillip. Him leaving for his witch let his brother be totally engulfed in the cultlike environment of the witchhunters. That is not meant as a hateful commentary on Caleb, but also as an observation of people, especially older siblings, being forced into caretaker roles and being parentified. Caleb's tragedy is that he wasn't a bad person, but really ill equipped to be a caretaker, but still being forced into that role. Choosing to be with his girlfriend let him leave Phillip alone in a very abusive system. But then again, should Caleb really stay there risking his own decline?
To be fair, I kind of agree with you and I think maybe if I were in his position, I didn’t wanna leave to cause I’d have to live my own life. Maybe that’s what Caleb was thinking. He was so tired of grief, see old and they’re close minded view of tea dealing with things he decided to run away.
He still messed up, but ultimately I think Alador was as much a victim of Odalia's abuse as the kids were, and most of his not-so-great decisions regarding his kids came from a place of fear of her.
Amity and hunter will be siblings no matter what. Either Darius and Aladore get together and they are step siblings or when Amity and Luz marry they are siblings in law because there is no way Darius isn't co-parenting hunter with Camilla and hunter is basically Luz brother now.
This isnt super relevant but evelyn was confirmed to be a clawthorne in the last posthoot! Also really good video u really contained all the thoughts about this that have been swimming around in my head x]
It's not exactly relevant to the theme of family (more relevant to the theme of domestic abuse) but it was weirdly refreshing to see a victim of domestic abuse who's a man by a spouse who's a woman, and have that NEVER be a point of ridicule on Alador's part. There's a great deal of victim-blaming in ANY situation of partner abuse, but there's this specific sexist idea that men who are abused should be ashamed for being 'weak', which is such bullshit.
The found family of Luz, Eda, and King was the original reason I had first gotten invested in this show in the first place, and quickly became my favorite thing. It always warmed my heart to see mama Eda trying her best! The scene in the last episode with them reuniting and the forehead kisses, that made me so so SO happy! 😊
As someone who's parents lived apart for the vast majority of my life, I really appreciate TOH for showing nuanced, kind and flawed single parents. My parents are wonderful people who still made mistakes and I think that growing up with media that showed parents as perfect made me feel very alien. When SU came out I think it was the first time I had seen a cartoon with a non-nuclear family and it gave me something I could relate to, even somewhat belatedly. Parents will always mess their kids up in some way or another but the important thing is that they acknowledge it and that there is a line between what is just human and what is abuse.
The Owl House opened me up to so much, on this topic it made me more aware of different family dynamics. Despite my hyperfixation becoming less intense it has impacted how I do make family dynamics.
I don't think Odalia's and Alador's relationship was anything more than a business deal. I don't even know if they were married, we don't know if the Boiling Isles has any sort of proper marriage system in place, after all, and given that there were no mentions of anything other than business deals with the break up, I don't think there was any love there at all. Honestly, I think Alador being a gay man in a loveless relationship specifically to keep the family name looking good, and thus having children in it, suits him. Sure he might've been fine with it for a while, but then as time went on, he probably realized just how miserable of a life it really was and started to care less and less, letting Odalia take the reigns of everything. Plenty of gay people still have children with the opposite sex, and only realize later in their life that it was a mistake, after all, so who knows, maybe that's what happened with him. And he was finally able to get out of that, and maybe could get together with Darius, a proper start for happiness! I feel like the twins would love having Hunter as a step sibling
The part about parents apologising to their kids really made me think - I have a really good relationship with my mother, and I think a lot of it is due to the fact that when she messes up, she admits it and apologises, just like I do to her. Sometimes she yells at me but she always apologises later (and, really, she very rarely yells when I don't kinda deserve it), and she's apologised many times for not doing some things as early as she should have. I've spent a long time being very aware that she's a Person, not just my mum.
One thing I really like with The Blights is Odalia is the abusive one, granted Alador was technically one before he corrected himself. But the sterotype that I've seen in the abusive dad. Granted characters like Mother Gothel exist but it's easier to name abusive fathers than mothers. Also glad to see Hunter gaining Flapjack's power being addressed as I was curious on your thoughts on it
11:45 Absolutely, a hundred percent. Wish parents would do this far more often. Also glad you’re doing better and that you prioritized your health! Thanks for the vid, it was fantastic as always!
I don’t think anyone would disagree with you on giving Hunter, Dairus’ last name as ever since their interactions I’ve seen people treat their relationship as family
Oh my heck, I have a new headcannon: Darius was close with the previous golden guard and had a crush on him. Through their interactions, GG realized Belos’s lies, confronting them, and getting killed. Darius is initially distant with Hunter, partly blaming himself for GG’s death, but also hoping Hunter will realize the truth and escape in time, encouraging things like Hunter keeping Flapjack. By the end of the series, he adopts Hunter, seeing him as the surrogate child Darius and GG would have had.
i just remembered something, about Odalia. When she finds out that amity has a human girlfriend she simply says "we'll find you a new girlfriend, someone who isn't on wanted posters". it's the demon realm and i still was surprised that Odalia was okay with amity having a girlfriend and not a boyfriend. she's more surprised that it's a human than that amity has a grilfriend. so odalia is a horrible person and i still hate her, but she's not homophobic. noone would have judged the creators to make her that as well. but they didn't and i like it that she doesn't see amitys' sexuality as another thing to be "fixed".
How do you say I’m hoping when we get a spin off if it’s turned into a graphic novel form I hope Dayna Terrace is able to use her original ideas for season three into it. That way she could get all ideas out there. Also, who knows maybe if she gets enough ratings and if the new Disney boss agrees to it, she can make a sequel for her TV show.
Such a genuinely good show, and the third season was still so good for what it was limited to being. I will continue to wish for a world in which the third season got the room to breathe it so desperately needed. We hate Disney, especially the execs, and we love those who fought for a show like this to exist in the first place.
If owl house movie will be created we should see the biggest twist from boiling isles- Mother of king, war with the archivists, return of papa Titan, the ultimate strike of luz the Titan, lumity's wedding, good side of Odalia and introducing to one spin off. So what do you think?
You are one of the Best TH-cam chanels i've foud. As someone who likes writing i apreciate that you always bring a diferent perspective. Not because it is really complex, but because it is very human and kind, even when something makes you angry. ❤ Thanks
I love this video, but I do want to point out that I think Belos’ making of the grim walkers was primarily to create new bodies for himself to increase his lifespan. Like yes, having a loyal version of his brother would be a benefit, but Hunter is literally just a tool to him.
One thing I wished the show did was show other people helping Camila care for the Hexside kids. It makes me feel kind of icky that she had to care for them all on her own :/
Well, they're literal witches from another realm entirely. I think that'd be pretty hard to explain to literally ANYONE, given they wouldn't have any sort of identification of belonging there. Not to mention the potentially differences in anatonmy, we already know they have a literal sack attached to their heart, who knows what else is different. Even Camila herself had a really hard time with believing it to begin with, and she only stayed calm because her own kid was mixed up with it and had proof. I think anyone else would call her crazy and probably call the cops on her
I mean, it would be hard to find people to help her when she basically has to hide the fact that those four live with her. We saw what happened to Vee when her identity was discovered, so I assume Camila needed to keep their identities secret as well. Also, holding unidentified children in your basement... not a good look 😂
calling eda a foster mother is generous? i must politely disagree, Eda consistently showed to be the most prominent and positive parental figure for most of the show. The only other positive parental figures being Camila, whom was widely considered a bad mom until season 3, Willow and gus's parents(briefly), Eda's own parents, and Alador Blight during the end of season 2. I dont count Luz's dad since we never get to see him properly. I would almost count Bump if we had more time with him being the cool teach. But I digress, Eda is a natural foster mom, in every situation where a child needs her help she presents herself as a mother, wether it be mama bear, or simply supporting them emotionally. The only instance this doesnt happen is when she claims she was going to let the Blight twins get eaten while she escapes.
I don’t know why Camila being flawed as a parent made people think she was a bad parent. Everyone makes mistakes and no parent is perfect. The same people who thought Camila was a bad mom weren’t as harsh with Alador as they were with Camila and were willing to give him a chance to become a better parent. Talk about a double standard.
I doubt that Evelyn of the present is the same as Evelyn from the past, 400 years had passed and I'm sure they'd want to mention any relation between her and Philip, even with the shortened storyline
There are two households that are actually a nuclear family The blights Amity's family for about 2 seasons Then the clawthrones they were kind of a family torn apart but they were still a nuclear fam a ma married to a dad two daughters blu blu blu I am glad that these two are the only ones it is rare
Oakwyrm, I love your videos. Are you gonna talk about High Guardian Spice (netflix)? That show had a lot of representation about gender, race or even romantic orientation. It would be amazing to know your view about it
I'm curious, because I'm rewatching it, how does Della Duck from Ducktales reboot fare in terms of disabled rep if she is any? She has the leg sue built for herself and it had me thinking if people had thoughts on her
I'd say Eda and King started the series in a parental version of a situationship, if you get what I mean? Idk, Eda has always been "feral mum" in my brain. Loved the video, thanks for giving your insight 💜
It may just be me, but I had always figured Alador reminding his wife of her promise was his way of protecting Amity without activly antagonizing Odalia. He was using the promise as an excuse to get her to back off in my mind. (This may be wrong, and it might jsut be the Alador apologist in me)
One thing that bothers me is that no one ever talks about how Darius was kinda a dick to Hunter, and it never gets brought up again. In the episode Any Sport in A Storm, he sorta acts like it's Hunter's fault for always being an obedient little follower who follows Belos' every command and never ever steps out of line to question anything. As though it's Hunter's fault for listening to his abusive, manipulative uncle and not having any other friends.
I wonder if Odalia wouls have forced any of her kids to use the Boiling Isles equivalent of colored contacts if they didnt al get Aladors eyes, since she wanted them color-coded
i love how diverse the relationships on owl house are. So it really upsets me when people turn Darius and amitys dad relationships in to a romantic one. To me that cold be a great example of a non romantic relationship between two men. I feel like we need more depictions of non romantic relationships between adults. I personally have male friends that are like brothers to me and a female friend that we literally introduce each other as siblings despite having zero familial bonds. and in all 3 cases, there are no romantic feelings involved. it still is a relationship just not a romantic one.
I think the title of this video is misleading. You only talk about the parental and child relationships in The Owl House but didn't talk about any of the sibling dynamics (ex. Luz and King, Amity and the twins, Lilith and Eda, Luz and Hunter sibling vibe etc. - not sure if I should count Luz and Vee since we didn't see enough of there dynamic, I heard people suggest King and the Collector have a sibling bond though I'm not sure about that either). These are important relationship in the show and it fells wrong to talk about family without mentioning them. Other than that this was a good video.
Sincere thanks for all your patience while I rested up and gathered myself a bit. It meant a lot, and I'm feeling on slightly steadier ground now. Hopefully things can resume as normal from here for a while at least.

There's a great deal of victim-blaming in ANY situation of partner abuse, but there's this specific sexist idea that men who are abused should be ashamed for being 'weak', which is such bullshit.
the owl house resonated so much with me. ill love it forever
Everyone show your support for the owl house the more we show support the higher. The chances are there will be a sequel or a spinoff.
After I say goodbye, sayonara to be our house she just said she was taking a break.
26:22 Only in the TOH fandom will you hear/see the words "bile sack" used in a sentence completely seriously.
I personally read Alador as Ace.

Love to see that people are still talking about the Owl House! I’d love to see you talk more about the sibling relationships in these families, too!
Oh my heck, I have a new headcannon:
Darius was close with the previous golden guard and had a crush on him.
Ive never been this early but im happy to be oakwyrm!!
i just remembered something, about Odalia.
Having had a narcissistic parent that hot and cold thing runs deep... Also the be perfect for me controlling arrogance...
BUT....if King is a Titan, isn't he technically King of all demons?Because wholly molly does he get HUGE.
Great commentary on family, and on relationships in general. Thanks
I just love the family tribes of this show! They're so deep!
i repeatedly admire you adding captions to your videos; thank you so much
Such a genuinely good show, and the third season was still so good for what it was limited to being. I will continue to wish for a world in which the third season got the room to breathe it so desperately needed. We hate Disney, especially the execs, and we love those who fought for a show like this to exist in the first place.
White picket fences, barbed wire and trenches
Trick or treat, merry Christmas, howdy neighbor, thank you Jesus
If owl house movie will be created we should see the biggest twist from boiling isles- Mother of king, war with the archivists, return of papa Titan, the ultimate strike of luz the Titan, lumity's wedding, good side of Odalia and introducing to one spin off. So what do you think?
cannot wait to watch this, tbh you're one of the few creators where I watch everyone of your videos
You are one of the Best TH-cam chanels i've foud. As someone who likes writing i apreciate that you always bring a diferent perspective. Not because it is really complex, but because it is very human and kind, even when something makes you angry. ❤
Thanks
I love this video, but I do want to point out that I think Belos’ making of the grim walkers was primarily to create new bodies for himself to increase his lifespan. Like yes, having a loyal version of his brother would be a benefit, but Hunter is literally just a tool to him.
This show is a masterpiece 🤩
11:45 unfortunately my parents don't do this.
i am trying to work this out but it depends on them.
7:40 Luz is the only one with a legit Mom (I'm not counting Amity's mom)
The Wittebanes, back to back champions of the “worst family dynamic” competition for 400 years
I relate with how you describe Eda in this video. She sounds a lot like my own mother.
I think anyone else would call her crazy and probably call the cops on her
They are at an age when they can do a lot by themselves.
I mean, it would be hard to find people to help her when she basically has to hide the fact that those four live with her. We saw what happened to Vee when her identity was discovered, so I assume Camila needed to keep their identities secret as well. Also, holding unidentified children in your basement... not a good look 😂
Deamonne is Darius last name, nice Hunter Deamonne
new oakwyrm toh episode yayyyyyyyyyyy

Great vid 🦉 💜
On directv is written that will be owl house movie. It will happened if Dana Terrace and disney hear how we love owl house.
Thank you for this
25:01 And then Philip kept flipping his shit and wrecking shit up for another 350-400 years.
This is The Best Video... like EVER!!
calling eda a foster mother is generous? i must politely disagree, Eda consistently showed to be the most prominent and positive parental figure for most of the show.
Talk about a double standard.
hi oak! could you possibly cover Wicked (the stage play) in the future? there's a book too, and a movie adaptation underway
I doubt that Evelyn of the present is the same as Evelyn from the past, 400 years had passed and I'm sure they'd want to mention any relation between her and Philip, even with the shortened storyline
There's an Evelyn in the present? (About to do a rewatch of the whole series, cos I don't even remember the mention of the one who's an ancestor)

Oakwyrm, I love your videos. Are you gonna talk about High Guardian Spice (netflix)? That show had a lot of representation about gender, race or even romantic orientation. It would be amazing to know your view about it
Awesome video !! I learned a lot !! More then i thought i would since i know a lot about TOH 💛
I'm curious, because I'm rewatching it, how does Della Duck from Ducktales reboot fare in terms of disabled rep if she is any? She has the leg sue built for herself and it had me thinking if people had thoughts on her
This video is actually so good. I miss the owl house.
I agree. I also see that conformity is dangerous to use on modern day dynamics and synergies with our characters and storyboards
I think I stopped watching after season 2. I really need jump back into this
I have only recently started watching the owl house and I would not like to be spoiled So...
Can u do a vid on What We Do In The Shadows love the show soo much
Eda wasnt a mom she was the crazy wine aunt who took in an exchange student
Dark but interesting?!

I wonder if Odalia wouls have forced any of her kids to use the Boiling Isles equivalent of colored contacts if they didnt al get Aladors eyes, since she wanted them color-coded
Even belos was raised by his brother
i love how diverse the relationships on owl house are.
Hello i must finish the show before watching this video
Hello i just binged all of season 2 in 2 days so now im watching this video i dont really care about season 3
Commenting for the algorithm
Love your videos
I think the title of this video is misleading. You only talk about the parental and child relationships in The Owl House but didn't talk about any of the sibling dynamics (ex. Luz and King, Amity and the twins, Lilith and Eda, Luz and Hunter sibling vibe etc. - not sure if I should count Luz and Vee since we didn't see enough of there dynamic, I heard people suggest King and the Collector have a sibling bond though I'm not sure about that either). These are important relationship in the show and it fells wrong to talk about family without mentioning them. Other than that this was a good video.
