Mantis gamepad pro is an alternative to the game sir app for key mapping also with codm you can connect to a Bluetooth controller then use your gamesir controller. In regards to fairness of being paired up with non controller players if you're connected to a Bluetooth device you still have full control with touchscreen controls which many players do to gain an advantage with faster reflects and sensitivity so there's a bit of debate there too. Another reason for the use of a button mapping in codm is ranked games with a Bluetooth controller they only allow you to progress to a certain point they stop you from joining anymore games.

Great review. Very in depth. I agree with nearly everything you've said, except the position of the screen shot button. I hit it accidentally quite often when using the d pad. I've also gotten the gritty feeling on the left stick, and I think the left friction ring has a slightly smaller radius than the right, so it bites into the stick a bit more. A metal stick would definitely solve the issue. I haven't installed the app, since I've seen all the concerns about it, but thankfully you can remap the back buttons on the fly and most games have in game support to adjust the sensitivity of the sticks. Been using mine for some GeForce Now sessions. Played through Ghostrunner on it. Which Mega Man were you playing?
I find the right stick a little low down for me personally as I have adult hands a little higher or a larger grip wouldn't go amiss

I would say not really. The gills on the rubber direct the audio up and towards you, however it's not quite as clean a sound as the speaker itself, but not muffled. I guess it'll depend on the phone itself too and the speaker placement.
Have you tried the Steelseries Stratus+ ? I can get it for 1/2 the price of this one
Also, do you know of any controllers with pressure sensitive buttons like the DualShock 3?
A way around it is to connect a Bluetooth controller first, then plug in the gamesir, and you should be able to use it right away. I do that to use the stadia controller via USB hub. that doesn't work natively either, but the Bluetooth controller trick works. An extra step and thing to carry, but it works.
Kind of surprised there's not a little device that emulates a Playstation controller just for this use honestly.

The best review I've seen of this controller. I subscribed. I was so close to buying this G8 but after watching your experience with (my also favorite game) CODM, I'm going to wait until they update the controller's software and make it compatible without the need of button mapping.
So you can use it with cod actually, but it requires an annoying work around and the problem is with the game, not the G8. To get it to work you have to connect s Bluetooth controller AND the G8 and the controls will work.
You want mapping because you get in lobbies with mobile players that are bad it’s plain cheater that’s why
I cannot praise ABXY buttons enough. It represents both rubber softness and and tactility not unlike dome switches. Seriously best of both worlds and makes it a lot easier to spam on certain type of games (or I dunno, QTEs). Now I seriously wish I could somehow port this level of greatness to my Steam Deck where ABXY rattle and demonstrate some stickiness...

I've had issues with the G8 connecting to my tab S8 or my OnePlus 12. Nothing lights up and I can't switch modes. If I plug a charger into the controller port then it lights up but nothing happens. Do you have any insight?
I have it and I freaking love it! I was about to purchase a Retroid Pocket 4 or something similar but thought I already have a really good phone (Poco F5), why not just convert that into a retro gaming console? It was annoying having to learn and set up RetroArch, Daijisho and all that stuff at first but after doing all that and getting this controller, it just made me feel good about my decision to not purchase a dedicated retro gaming console. It's amazing!
You actually already gonna learn all that by buying rp4 pro so you did good with just buying a telescopic controller and making your device be a great gaming powerhouse
My use case precisely. Already set up RetroArch and having a blast with RetroAchievements. Now having a controller like this would make the experience even better (especially for games requiring shoulder buttons).

almost order 1 for my ipad mini6 then i find cheaper way coz i already have gamesir T4 kaleid, so i buy a ipega phone grip for xbox 5.5 $ and a magnetic phone holder for Car 3$. Stick the magnetic phone holder on the grip part and boom ... i have magnetic grip for phone and tablet at only 8.5$. abit heavy when use with ipad + cover ! but it worked like champ.

Usually Gamesir controllers comes with a carrying case, hopefully the new version will come with a case.

Where did you install the Gamesir app? I installed it through Play Store and never had the weird pop-up. I have a Galaxy Note 20.
The sideload version with the mapping features needs to be side loaded.

@@RetroBreezeYTThat's not true, the mapping works perfectly fine with the Play Store app, that was true for the X2 pro, but the G8 works differently, and the Play Store app doesn't gives any security warning.
I've also had the Playstore version for a few days and everything seemed to be there. I got rid of it though because each time I unlocked my phone, I got an annoying popup to give the app access to the controller. (on a OnePlus 7 Pro with Lineage OS)
@@juicythedj750 Yeah, the Play Store version asks for access to the controller which is normal I guess, but those dangerous security issues are for the downloadable version

No, you have to sideload it for all the essential features (remapping, etc). This is the same that has the security issue.
I think if they want to be taken seriously they need a dedicated us team as far as I know they are remotely from china? Because I ordered one and it’s showing mainland china as the processing center. They have a us social account but maybe it’s just their English speaking team in china? Anyways they need to overhaul their software and add parts and accessories like the stick sliders and different stick type materials also face plates, and cases and stuff like that. I do hope I actually get it. I’m not sure why it shipped from China but I hope it’s as good as people say! Also x input don’t always mean cod would work I’ve bought an x import controller before and it didn’t work at all on my Samsung I had! I hear cod trys to patch out controllers not actually Sony or Xbox even if it was in partnership with them!
My X2S also doesn't have Xinput support. I think they only give Xinput support to Xbox lisenced devices like X2 Pro. Shame, HSR only supports Xinput gamepads on Android.

Pretty sure, if the app captures and maps to the screen, it will be putting your device at risk!
So it's most likely a case of either allowing the mapping of the screen and putting up with warnings, or entirely dropping the screen mapping ability to avoid the warnings and risk unfortunately...
This is why you can opt out of using the software that maps the screen, and not be at risk according to the warnings, or use the app and obviously get warnings because the app maps the screen which puts you at risk.
So they kind of have already offered the best of both worlds, although, they could have made 1 apps that 1 could allow button customization, and the other could offer screen mapping maybe???
But that's kind of overkill, as long as there isn't actually a risk of using the app, which I don't think there is, other than since the options exist, the OS knows this is something that could put you at risk if it was used for risky purposes???
Anyway, that's my 2 cents for my understanding of what the deal is with that, and I could be totally wrong as well, so don't take this is factual info or anything, just logical thought on what I understand of the situation...

Nope. For the touchpad you have to touch the phone screen twice.
I just want a bluetooth version. I would try to use it on the legion go to see if I can get better ergonomics. It also means better compatibility with both iOS and Android.
In that case get an 8bitdo Ultimate controller.
I installed the app through the playstore so I would think its safe (no popups and stuff about warnings) other than that, the review is good 👍

If you’re concerned with stability I’d suggest putting Velcro tape on the controller as well as the back of your tablet

The app store version of the app doesn't ask for any access except the controller. He downloaded an unsigned sideload app.

I have that problem too. My phone uses Helio G99 chipset, maybe there are hit and miss with mediatek devices.

Wish this collapsed to a smaller and more rigid firm without a phone in it, that way it could be a total all in one controller. I'm not sure how that could be accomplished but it would be awesome

Cod doesnt work with wired controllers like the gallileo, unless you connect a bluetooth controller like an official xbox controller, and then play with the wired controller.

i have no problems using this on cod mobile. Dont have to use a bluetooth controller either. This must be android problems. No issues on ios in codm or warzonem.

Yes, at first....my anti-friction ring/stick on the left went bad only after a few hours of use. Besides that though it's great, just no rumble

I pulled them from a FlyDigi Apex 3 Elite gamepad just to test. But I've heard that any Xbox Elite-compatible sticks will work (such as those from ExtremeRate)

Yeah it would be nice to have an SD card reader that emulation roms or larger android game data could be stored on since so many flag ship.phones no longer have SD card slots.
Another potentially interesting take but would definitely add up to a costly controller would be full built in USB C "dock" with pass through charging, 3.5mm audio, mini HDMI, micro SD slot and maybe even a USB A female port.
Similar to the USB C "5 in 1" hubs from sellers like Anker... But simply built into the controller.
I think there is a similar controller device that actually exists for the Switch.

11" tablet yes, but it depends on the case. If it's a slim TPU type it should work.

Usb type c needs to be optional. Rather its bluetooth or both. Where you can push away the type c and used bluetooth only if needed to. Hate the fact that all these very good controller being made with the type c sticking out. Not risking my devices just saying.
It’s not just the G8. CODM supports all telescopic controllers on iOS, but supports none except the Backbone on Android. Seems kinda anti competitive.

Be aware that everytime you play with it, you will need to remove the controller from the mobile device after use, since there is no way to turn off the stupid leds, who will drain your battery even without using it.
Mine turn off after maybe 5 minutes.

Actually cod mobile does NOT have x input support. Its so dumb. On android it only supports Xbox one/series, PS4/PS5 controllers, and backbone controllers. And the xbox and PlayStation controllers cant be wired, it has to be connected via bluetooth. Which is so lame. The only wired controllers allowed are backbone. The first gen (pre 2016) xbox one and PS4 controllers are not supported either. Also a recent DualSense PS5 controller update broke compatibility with Cod mobile, and its been months and they still have not fixed it.. Apple did a way better job when it comes to controller support compared to android, since they all get treated the same by apps/games. They app can't discriminate like android does...

@@GameBrainerz Sorry but I don't consider Key mapping apps to be a viable solution. For cod mobile especially, I already tried it and the issue is that sprint can not be mapped to clicking the left stick, and the right stick key mapping aiming simulation is imprecise, accelerates wrongly, and has a delay compared to native game controllers. Not to mention the annoyance of the whole USB debugging process to set it up, launching through an another app and other various invasive privacy settings in order to get it to work.

The x2 pro stopped doing passthrough charging, and the USB c connector ended up breaking loose after a while. i don't trust game sir in build quality

My x2 and galileo have been working just fine for several months.
My X button flew off the other day. Contacted customer support to see if I could buy a replacement set and they said they don't do that. It was for a Gamesir X2 Pro Xbox edition USB C Android controller. Bought another one cuz I might have lost my own spares since Amazon says they come with 2 sets. I thought so too but I didn't take note at the time I unboxed it. Will see in this order.

Gamesir is a Chinese company...i don't find it at all suspicious that software from China that needs to be sideloaded because the Google play store will not authorize it, is marked as unsafe...I would 100% NEVER buy any of these "Best controller in China" brands that require you to use their software, especially on my phone....no thank you, hard pas on this product.

all you have to do to play codm with your G8 direct in x-input mode without mapping buttons simply connect any xbox wireless controller or third-party xbox controllers to your phone/tablet via bluetooth now your gamesir g8 will mimic a xbox controller when playing codm this method also work with gamesir x2 pro/x3
