Hard workers also deserve an outing once in a while, and we had the privilege of going out with a special club: @KNRM Noordwijk, the rescue company. What extraordinary people these are! Without protocols, purely on their own strength and judgment, they put their lives on the line to save drowning people on the open sea.
The stories shared were impressive and inspiring. You don't realise all that lies behind such a boat and those suits. During the exercise, three people fell overboard. Gerard had to be rescued and joked: 'I don't care about my wife, as long as you save my mate.' The suits we wore were heavy, water- and airtight and therefore incredibly hot. Not everyone had equally strong sea legs, but the atmosphere was fantastic.
