    I have the same Biocube and have been running it as a freshwater tank. I want to switch it over to salt water so started looking for videos. You put water from your tap directly into the tank. When and what kind of salt mix did you add? What about sponge/foam pads in the back for filtration? What about the correct mix of salt to the water? You didn't go over any of that which is what I was looking to find out.

    • @SaltFishTV
      @SaltFishTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome to the salty side! I definitely didn’t use tap water as that’s a big no in the reef hobby. I am using RODI water, the 5 stage filter that filtered my tap water. Please take the time and look at my other videos as most of this has been covered in other videos.

    • @HairyTee
      @HairyTee ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply! Sorry for the confusion. I assumed the tap water was being run through an RODI filter. What I was looking to find out was your process for running the RODI filter and adding the salt water. I would consider myself an expert in freshwater tanks. I have a 125g tank with 12 gorgeous Altum Angelfish. One of them was caught in the wild. But I've wanted to switch my 30g BioCube to a saltwater tank and don't know much about saltwater requirements. I am going to purchase the AquaticLife Twist 4 stage RODI filter and Instant Ocean Reef Crystals Reef Salt since I do want to grow corals as well. I will look at your other videos to see if there is anything there that can help. Thanks again! @@SaltFishTV

      I like using one that mixes to the same or close to the same levels as my tank and it’s needs so I don’t have to dose too much while it’s mixing before adding to the tank.

    How much food do you add, and how often, after you've added the bacteria? Just came from the first store, have my saltwater and live rock, as well as Fiji Pink sand. Appreciate your videos

    • @SaltFishTV
      @SaltFishTV  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Food to add during the cycling process? You want a good ammonia spike, but not too much or else the cycle can stall. I like to use Dr. Tim’s ammonia source, but you can dump a bunch of food in and I like to call it the dirty style because it gets messy in there and takes some time to break down and become ammonia for the cycle to start. Check out my cycling video: Nitrogen Cycle Explained - * BioCube 32G * Full Reef Tank Cycle - Reefing For Beginners

    Hey, great vid, I'm looking to get back into the hobby and I see things have changes since the early 90s! Question> What drives the ammonia cycle to for the initial break in if there are no fish in there? Does the live rock / sand / biological media have enough organisms to do that?

    • @SaltFishTV
      @SaltFishTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you and that’s an excellent question! I personally like to use Dr. Tim’s ammonia source (liquid dosing). If you get live rock, I’m sure there will be life that will not make it through the cycle to add to the ammonia source, but specifically in this video and series I cycled the dry rock in a tub for a few months before using it and then dosed the ammonia liquid mentioned above. I also dosed bacteria in the tank as well.

    why did you get the nero 3? biocube already comes with the built in water pump?

    • @SaltFishTV
      @SaltFishTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Nero is a wave maker for added random flow purposes for the corals overall health. The stock pump in the BioCube is more so for filtration and circulation.

    one more quick question, do you have a link for those media bags with the bigger holes? I use the porous ceramic balls and put them in a filter media bag but I'm afraid they are too small of holes for this to work efficiently, I haven't been able to find any of these at any LFS...Thanks!!

    looks awesome! what size is that random flow generator, I have a 16 biocube & I'm sure it would be the same size for mine, also where did you get that bonsai tree rock setup? I checked BRS but they don't make a kit for nano cubes yet...

    • @SaltFishTV
      @SaltFishTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! For the random flow generator in the 32 BioCube it’s 1/2” I’m using, but you can always go on their website and purchase the kit for the specific tank for the perfect fit. As for the rock it’s Art Reef Rock and you can see the video I made on it here 👉 th-cam.com/video/x8qZsnv1ytw/w-d-xo.html

      @@SaltFishTV is there a way to make it more blue? Or will it always stay more white

    • @SaltFishTV
      @SaltFishTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bogdansklyarov5801 it depends on how you set up your channels. Each channel is for the different lights. Blue, pink/purple, or the white lights. If I remember correctly channels 3 & 2 are the blue and pink/purple aka beauty lights. Channel 1 should be the white lights. If you want more blue then run the channel 3 more longer, but they really don’t produce too much light PAR for higher demanding corals. That’s why I at least run all 3 channels during the schedule for at least an hour or two so the corals get all of the spectrum, of which they really respond well too. Only thing you can’t do with the stock lights is increase the intensity of each light channel like you can with aftermarket lights.

    Hey I love the setup and I really like how you let the kids help too. I was wondering, why are you putting the heater in the same chamber as the return pump? I was asking because I have the same tank (and same heater too actually) and I keep mine in the far right chamber because that chambers water always stays high, but I always notice evaporation and lower water levels in that first chamber with the pump. Just food for thought I wouldn't want you to burn out that nice heater! Cheers.

    • @SaltFishTV
      @SaltFishTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you and yes, they are the future of our hobby 🙂 Plus it’s always fun to get the family involved! To be honest the cord for the heater wasn’t long enough for me to reach in the far right or first chamber. I have an ATO system to keep the water level stable in the return pump or third chamber.
