For salsa this is a good way to keep it from getting too watery as you are eliminating the seeds and supporting structure leaving just the meat left

Tomatoes lose taste in the refrigerator. And this is wasteful to cut tomato like this. The better ways id to slice 3/8 thick slices and just push seed out from two chambers.
