I don't think becoming inured to seeing violence necessarily correlates with them committing acts of violence. Id wager that violent enacters enjoy violent games, not that violent games cause violent people. Indeed if it was the case that violent games created violent enacters there would be far more violence than there is. And violent games are obviously not enough for violent enacters, so how much can they be blamed.
Is becoming desensitised to violence (if its true this doesnt lead necessarily to becoming violent oneself) a bad thing, or is it just psychological protection against the misery we'd be in if every act of violence we were aware of debilitated us? Look st gow we can easily dissociate from victims of war. Look how maby Palestinians are being murdered right nie but we just skip along with our day, or worse, support it!
I think blaming games is too simplistic. They may even prevent real-world violence by allowing (mostly) men and boys to safely offload pent up anger or rage or frustration, in the way that sports do.
If you dont buy your kid a toy gun he'll peobably pick up a stick and pretend it's one.
The propensity for violence is also actually a positive adaptive evolutionary trait. We very much needed to be able to defend ourselves and protect our tribes and resources way back when. The ability to enact violence is as much to do with self defence as it is wanton attack. So i think we should move away from the presumption of violence being inherently Bad. The intent is what is more important

I'm with Denise, I prefer overseas crime stories for the same reason. Local shows are too close to home.

I will watch some of the Netflix documentaries if they look compelling enough but that’s about the extent of my dabble in true crime. And they are usually about the more notorious killers / trials of our lifetime. I don’t feel satisfaction seeing the criminals get their comeuppance to be honest. The damage is done and the life behind bars isn’t going to bring the victim back. I usually always end it feeling sadness and anger for the system that failed to protect the victims. And I don’t like to stay in that place too long. I’ll take Bridgerton any day!!! Lol
