You play this really well. I can almost visualise Mendelssohn sitting with you and nodding his approval. You certainly have mine. I try to play this piece and will certainly copy your wonderful interpretation.

Mendelssohn, more than any other composer I know of, regularely falls victim of unsensitive performances. THIS very strong and personal interpretation makes me think that his works sometimes need to be "unlocked" in order to show their true beauty and complexity. Careless and mediocre playing used to give Mendelssohn a much less than deserved appreciation, fitting to antisemitic bias. Some non western musicians, (I'm not speaking of this performer!), untainted by the european underrating, have often shown a better understanding than those with european background.

I agree with the notion that Mendelssohn was underrated, especially in music schools, where children’s music world is shaped. My piano teacher in StPetersburg considered Mendelssohn a second rate composer, who tried to tailor his compositions after Schubert! What nonsense! Because of that bias, my intro to his chamber music happened much much later in my life. Thanks teach!

You are so correct in making this observation. I think there is an inordinate amount of inverted snobbery over Mendelssohn's music. Some think anything post Beethoven - pre Holst is a load of rubbish and I am not one of them. His Songs w/w are superbly constructed. How he would have loved some of the modern pianos now available!

Very fine playing and perfect touch. However, for Mendelssohn, too much is made of unimportant details and the whole is a little too over-interpreted for my taste.
