Sometimes I think Mr. McNay's struggle with getting particulars from these people is that once they've 'arrived' they want so much to emphasize how easy it is or how much it was already there or how much it never wasn't there, how simple it is, etc. In my experience this kind of reaction or explanation is quite common. But that is never the case until they reach there.. It's hard for them to remember, it's hard for them not to forget. And so it is hard for them to explain what happened or even how their experience changed even though it changed dramatically. This is very interesting along with being a bit frustrating to the ego.

He's very good with words, but words can't put whatever people feel into words. Words are so limitting. Thirdly I feel like the interviewer isn't at the same level of consciousness as the one he interviews.
I don't think its necessary to expect the interviewers to have realized. I would say they are just interested in the subject and seeking understanding in the same way that the rest of us are.
