Nazareth were so good in their prime, and this song is from those days. Had the pleasure of seeing them a decade or so later (I was working security right in front of the stage, so I heard more than I saw).
RIP Dan McCafferty. Miss Misery by Nazareth should be next followed by their cover of This Flight Tonight by Joni Mitchell. Apparently Pete Drake used the talk box in 1963 for a live performance of a song called Forever.
"Hair Of The Dog", "Beggars Day", "Miss Misery", "Changin Times", "Love Hurts", Whiskey Drinking Woman" and "Please Don't Judas Me", all great songs by Nazareth.
Wow, quite an iconic rock song from the late 1970s. And in fact it was my slightly younger sister that turned me on to it because she was in love with the song along with all her friends. So I bought the whole album for her for her birthday, and then she would blast it at the top of her stereo system and lock her door, laugh. But I loved it so much that shortly thereafter I went out and bought the album too and I also absolutely love their huge hit, love hurts, it's from this album and received so much radio Play It's insane, and it is an Everly Brothers cover but they just kind of modernize it by about 10 years. I saw them in concert on this tour and it was a wonderful show. Everybody was so into it.
Love this song. Back in the day some friends and I left a bar and heard them rehearsing in the building next door. The door was ajar, so we crept inside. We were there (backstage, couldn't see the band) for a few minutes. A couple of big guys come from nowhere and asked if they could help us. Us: We were just leaving. Thanks! We got out of there fast!
There was an early version of it in 1939 that was used by a big band musician by the name of Alvino Rey, later, a steel guitarist named Peter Drake and he introduced it to Peter Frampton, he used the talkbox on his song "Do You Feel Like We Do", back in 1973, that same year, Joe Walsh used it on his song "Rocky Mountain Way". I guess some would say, Frampton made it famous, but I remember hearing it on Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way", first.
NAZARETH - " Changing Times " - " Telegram "(Today) - " You're The Violin " - " Carryout Feelings" (Takeaway Love) "- " Lift The Lid " and " Born Under The Wrong Sign " (Trouble) 🎸🎹 1975 /1976 ROCK CLASSICS ALL GOOD ONES
This was my favorite song in Junior High School! Yes, I'm old! I love Dan McCafferty, may he R.I.P. You should check out the live video, it's good. I think he's talking about a woman who is a gold digger or tease.
Nazareth is such a great band, please listen to Love Hurts. Since you love the Talk Box Ace, here are a few other great bands/songs using the Talk Box when you feel inspired. Rufus: "Tell Me Something Good" Steely Dan: "Haitian Divorce" Joe Walsh: "Rocky Mountain Way" Peter Frampton: "Do You Feel" Aerosmith: "Sweet Emotion" Bon Jovi: "Livin On A Prayer" Much love
I must have seen the same show!!! LOL...I'm 65, so I don't remember where it was, I believe it was Germany, when I was stationed there...but out came a Bag Pipe, and I was floored!! Rock on Brother!!!
@@sirmister4411 Yes, I'm well aware of the talk box in the original song, on the album...duh!! I saw them in Germany and they brought out the bagpipes, and did that bit on the pipes...sounded just like the album. Just wanted to clarify...home skillet.
Hair of the Dog was a hangover drink for the night before. Sadly , Dan McCafferty (Singer) passed last year Back in the late 60's When Heavy Metal was born , it was considered Blues based music played very loud Of Course Black Sabbath would change that description
Lots of great suggestions in the comments - and I will add one more: They do a killer cover of Bob Dylan's "Ballad of Hollis Brown" that is so heavy it will peel the paint from your walls!
Not a “Talk Box”, Bag Pipes. They are from Scotland. In listening to the younger reactors on TH-cam, I don’t believe any of you would have made it back in the 1960’s to about 2000. The lyrics seem to offend you all. It’s like you are shocked to hear lyrics with some coarse words (S.O.B.), or sexual innuendo, etc. Most songs are about Love, Hate, Sex, Making Up, Breaking Up, life events, etc. Life isn’t for SISSIES! Old folks always used the saying; “Growing old ain’t for sissies.” 🙂 Now we need to say it apparently all of the time. 🙄😂 We used to have big buildings too where several hundred people would gather on the weekends and listen to real LIVE MUSIC being played by real live musicians. 😂 We called them “Bars”. They would stay open until 2:00 am selling alcoholic beverages to the people gathering there. We danced with people of the opposite sex, and at the end of the night, if you didn’t already have a girlfriend or boyfriend, you might just find someone to take home with you just for THE NIGHT and have wild and crazy sex with them, SEVERAL TIMES! 😂Yes, we did that. A LOT! 😂 It was all consensual. Men and women and people in general had a mutual respect for each other. I don’t think that is happening much in today’s world.
Finally a song with plenty of COWBELL 👍
One of the other songs where I start yelling, "It Needs More Cowbell "
The first time I played that song, I loved it on 10. The next time I played it, all my neighbors enjoyed too!

Hell of a Song!! Fabulous!
Yep, this is rock´n roll. And the attitude is hard to beat. "I have heard about you, and I am just as bad". I love it! :)
I gotta say I was feeling a bit down today but this song pulled me outta that!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻💙💙❤️❤️💜💜
The 70’s Rock
Love this song! Saw Nazareth in the late 70's in St Louis. It was a great show!

You really covered some good ground with this batch of tunes Ace!
Glad you dug these vocals. You're right -- down and dirty but fresh. Your quote was right on -- "This is rock and roll!".
This was my favorite song in 1978. 😎
It came out in 1975
Whole album fire great songs

That was a terrific album
I agree!! I love the whole album." Please Don't Judas Me "is one of my favorites
Yeah Dan's voice is as fresh as one can get - even if he sounds like he's singing with a throat full of glass shards.
Yeah, 50 years ago.

masterpiece
That cowbell's got some hair on it!
Oh yay
Yeah awesome cool jam, yes 😎🤘🎤🥁🎸
I believe as the story goes the song was originally Son of a Bitch! Sensors wouldn't allow it so they changed the song to Hair of the Dog.
one of scotlands best bands

I’ve always loved this groove and always will. PLEASE check out their hit “Love Hurts!” You won’t regret it! 🙂👍💜✌️
I used to think it was a talk box too. Until I went and seen them and the lead singer was playing it with bagpipes

the band is hard rock, however, the song i could see going in biker rock category
1975
Modern culture has created way too many different versions of rock music, just like genders.
