Gabby was the most spoiled and selfish out of all of the characters, but she had a hard life especially as a child. She is a good person.
Patrick Gaddis ... it is amazing how experiences lived in childhood shape people's characters as adults. Gabby's shallow, materialistic and selfish behavior stemmed from the abuse she suffered as a child, which as she said - she did not deserve. I believe she used this behavior to protect herself as an adult. This is a very powerful scene, as Gabby was finally able to let go of her pain by confronting the person who should have helped her. However, she was also very lucky to have Carlos by her side to give her the support she so desperately needed.
I think Carlos heard the whole conversation between Gabby and the nun because he was waiting for Gabby in the hall.
LaraCroftEyes1 ... I think so too. Carlos was a big support for Gaby. She had to let go of all that pain. Ironically the show begins with them being a very shallow, uncaring and materialistic couple. Later on they became a very stable family and good spouses and parents. But that's life!
Patrick Gaddis she is a wonderful person. She’s scared of true love and character, which is why she pretended to be shallow. She’s always had a strong heart. But after she left Texas after her step-dad raping her, she started modeling.
Broken homes create narcissists look at our president
I love how cathartic and powerful it feels when she says "I did not deserve what happened to me"
"You were a grown up and you did nothing"
I get chills when she says, “I was a child”. Wonderful acting.
Wow, that nun was gaslighting her, shamed her for her love of reading, violated her trust, and still tried to be manipulative.
No wonder she didn't trust nuns.
Now we know why Gaby hated Sister Mary Bernard in series two. I know Gaby can be a bitch at times but she is a good judge of character she saw through Sister Mary, Carlos aunt Connie when she tricked them into taking Ana, she saw through Carlos creepy massage client, she was the one who said Paul Young gave her the creeps and there was something not right about him and she was spot on when she told Bree Chuck was dangerous to them. Gaby.may not be academically intelligent but she's got street smarts and life experience that makes her clever and resourceful.
@@wickedwitchoftheeast88Sadly due to her stepfather doing that and nobody's there to protect her. She had to learn to see people for who they are before the had a chance to hurt her
@@annacalifornia6498 Oh I can relate to that I have that seem skill and its always useful. Although I wasn't sexually abused I did grow up in a domestic abuse environment, my father is abusive and sadly the way he is has shown me just how vicious, venomous, vindictive and manipulative people can be to others. I rely on that skill everyday and I've learned to now trust my instincts when I have a bad feeling or vibes from someone because its always proved true.
That nun from what she said of books and magazines Gaby brought in to school, she called "trashy", were obviously model stuff. Gaby thinking of her dreams that she still fulfilled. But the nun personally hated them. Just bc she didn't like em doesn't give her the right to turn away from kids in need of help with major things.
Just because Gabrielle wasn't a serious student, the nun refused to believe her about Alejandro. She should have at least carried out her own investigations before calling Gaby a liar. Sister Marta was so unfair and obviously held a prejudice against Gaby. Gaby is not one of my favourite characters but I felt so sorry for her.
PrincessA the church knows or witnesses this and do nothing
All churches have members who do this
Not because she wasn't a serious student but because she was the look-at-me brat. Her mother said the same to Carlos in season 1 or 2 (I can't recall)
@@LaRoche_ all the same, she should have investigated. Gabrielle didn't deserve what happened to her. She was a child.
@@LaRoche_ But, like, her mother villainized her. Correct me if I'm wrong (I haven't watched the series in years), but I remember that she totally believed that Gaby had not been raped by her stepfather, but that she seduced him (she basically victim blaming her daughter in front of her son-in-law Carlos, in a bitter, jealous tone). Gaby never told her, knowing that her mother would never believe her.
And, I really don't think that's a good excuse to dismiss and blame a teenager who confesses to being a victim of SA. There are always kids who love to be the center of attention (maybe being the class clown or leading groups), I would understand doubting only if Gabrielle had a history of making up stories like this (not silly rumors, but serious stuff). But I don't think that's the case, the attitude of this religious woman to instantly deny everything and silence the victim accusing her of lying, seems a very clear reference to the terrible and despicable record of the Catholic church of covering up abusers.
Not so much a "I didn't believe you because you weren't very trustworthy," as "I went out of my way to believe you guilty because it was easier to deal with, it didn't threaten any of my beliefs and interests."
One of my favorite scenes from the whole series... I like that they brought this subject up, because it happens FAR too often...
Truly
That nun is so going to hell.
Nah, she'll just ask for forgiveness and will be fine.
Everybody who is aware of this horrible thing will go to hell
Amen.
That nun looks like she could run hell in her own
@@veetowanna1515 ugly people can be kind too
Did anyone notice the light on Gabrielle at end? She is finally released from her past i guess.
OMG I never noticed that good observation.
I remember the first time I watched this episode, and thinking that this part of Gaby's back story explained so much about her personality... She goes out of her way to play the happy, shallow, spoiled rich wife ("look how AWESOME my life is!!).... using that as a defense mechanism to hide her demons.... Don't get me wrong, she WAS adorable shallow and spoiled... but this is one of the scenes that just made her character seem more human to me...
Exactly! She's the most immature, puerile housewife in the show, but that's because her childhood was robbed from her. Behind all that comedy is a heartbreaking tragedy.
And this is why she sometimes looked the strongest mentaly for me
You are right are childhood shapes who we become
Her acting was amazing in this scene. I felt so sorry for her, as if it had happened to Eva not Gabrielle
@sousoualger2234 what do you mean ? did she got abused ?
@sousoualger2234 omg i never knew it
@@coleturnersgf she was abused by her uncle for several years... Her parents didn't know for the abuse.. Later she assisted persecutors on their indictment for him raping another girl who commited suicide. The bastard pleaded guilty to other sexual offenses & was put in prison where he died of cancer
“YES YOU ARE” I love Gabrielle this scene gives me goosebumps every time
The writers are genius. And Gabby is a very profound character.... She really has layers... You really cant judge self absorbed and superficial people, because Gabby is such a loving mother and she really went through a lot. Her husband getting blind and finding out her real daughter and still love Juanita. Gabby was such a great soul in a fabulous body.
Her character development after the divorce was astounding! She remains vain and I think that’s ok, it makes sense as an ex model and a gorgeous woman in general. As you said she becomes so soft when Carlos went blind and she had her babies. She, Bre and Carlos were my absolute favorite characters because of how they were constantly growing.
Both actresses deserve Emmy awards for this scene.
Eva Longoria was great.
Eva Longoria is a marvellous actress, and honestly I don't think anyone else could have done that scene better than she did.
I agree... this sort of thing happens way too often in real life, in cases of abuse, rape, bullying, etc. The victim reaches out for help, and ends up being victimized twice. I was glad that Desperate Housewives showed this side of it...
How could the nun be like that? Seriously, who would lie about something like that?
+kztar621 Actually only about 1% are false but people act like a majority is and that causes people to doubt real victims
+kztar621 Care to provide some actual references or sources for these studies? The ones that say up to 50% of rape allegations are false? Can you provide proof that there is an increase of "crying rape" or any of the other "feminist propaganda" you refer to?
Over 50% seems pretty unrealistic! So as the decline of violent crimes!
I went to a convent school. you'd be surprised what nuns are like.
People think that they are all holy and nice but they forget that they are still human.
Feminist propaganda indeed! Long live Brock Turner! Long live that judge too! Every woman should just accept when a guy fucks them like that... isn't that right, kztar621? ;)
I did Gabby's monologue for an audition, and not only did I get the part, but I made the director and the two assistant producers cry. I use my voice as a man, to speak for my mother and my two aunts who were sexually abused, I spoke for them
Congrats!
Did you also include a monologue for how Gabby sleeps with underage boys like John Rowland? She's as much of a predator as her stepfather is.
Well done, that is not an easy thing to do, you were a vessel for truth that day.
You deserve everything good life ought to offer! ❤️
Well this made me cry 🥹 you did it for them, but the ripple effects help all victims 💜 thank you.
that was good acting from gabby.
Eva*
If you think about it, Gabrielle couldn't trust Sister Mary Bernard in season 2 because this nun didn't believe her to confide her sexual abuse in when no one else would. Carlos confided in Sister Mary Bernard and while that could have easily been read as jealousy on her behalf, it could also be a traumatic response to not getting that herself. When Sister Mary Bernard revealed her bad intentions, Gabrielle was playing out something from past pain that reappeared in her present. The show didn't explore this, but maybe season 2's writing wasn't all that bad in the Gaby/Carlos arc as we needed to think it was.
This deserves an Emmy and Golden Globes trophy. This is so impacting!
Gaby had a few powerful scenes aside from this one. There was the one when she first confronts Alejandro and threatens him with the gun almost killing him. In season 2 there was the scene after her miscarrage where she's at the park letting go of the balloon. Then the scene when she's hysterical after having to give back baby Lily to the birth mother. I'm actually disappointed that Eva is the only one of the four ladies not to have received an award
are you serious? Susan got an award and not eva? The two most deserving are Bree and gaby. Their characters are so much more complex and their storylines are far more interesting.
This show had some of the best writing and acting ever!
What an acting 😧😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️ for both of them. One of the best scenes of this serie.
what kind of nun does not at least investigate or report it when a student tells them they are being abused. my apologies to all catholics but do they ever stop covering it up???
By law the nun is required to report any suspicions of any kind of child abuse and endangerment to CPS.
haha they even cover up their own scandals
Gaby had the most moving scenes. This is just one of it.
makes me cry every time
I been where Gabby was and was openly groomed and LOTS of adults knew cops, drs, family, teachers, & they made it seem like it was my fault or they ignored it. So you grow up wearing a mask to protect yourself but what the people who cover it up or ignore it or just as bad as the abusers . Especially, when you blame a messed up kid. Trust & believe as an adult I let everyone know & not forget it because I realized it was not my shame to carry , it was theirs.
OMG definitely one of my favorite DH scenes! I love Gabby in this moment!!!
Gabby putting her foot down admonishing the nun for invalidating her.
cried at this scene :(
no one, absolutly no one deserves what happened to gaby, and it's our duty as society to ensure our kids well being, and to raise them into respecting themselves and others, many people can say that Gaby's stepfather was a monster and in certain way he was, but no one ever stops to think why he is like that, what drove him to do something so despicable.
I was molested also and like gaby I was ashamed too for the longest time but i'm not anymore. I could relate to this scene so much because the first time i tried to tell my mom she brushed me off. I don't think she meant to but that's what happened. Anyway the nun didn't like gabby, she was probably jealous of her just the same way gabby's own mother was jealous of her daughter. So instead, of doing something, she brushed gabby off as an attention seeking liar.
That's horrific what happened to you, I'm so sorry. Frankly, I think that people who don't believe rape or sexual abuse survivors should be sentenced, at the very least have a criminal record. Fuck them. So many of my friends were raped by their fathers or male acquaintances, its shocking. And about half of the victims weren't believed, which is arguably as great a crime as the assault itself.
😠😠😠Alejandro is going to rot in hell, that's it, poor gaby:-(😭😭😭
I think season 7 has been really good! And all of those things that happend to Gabby during the season is all connected some how, and i love that!!
Very powerful scene... from what I understand, this sort of crap happens far too often. Teachers or other trusted adults looking the other way or straight-up accusing kids of lying in cases of abuse, bullying, etc... makes me sick....
Sadly this does happen
The park scene gives me chills....
The writing and acting of Gaby's character was simply amazing. From superficial spoiled brat to complex character with many layers who turned out to be supportive wife and loving mother
This was a very powerful scene. I loved it
It was nice to show Gabrielle's dark past and how the nuns refused to help her when Alejandro molested her.
i really do think every teacher and adults should watch this scene at least one time in their life
Shout out to Carlos. I know this clip is mostly about Gaby and Marta. But Carlos caught on immediately that something wasn't right between the two of them. Because he knows his Gaby and how she reacts to things.
I didn't like Carlos in series one but after he spoke to Lucia Gaby's mum about Alejandro and her denying he raped Gaby I loved him because you could see the disgust on his face that Lucia chose to believe that Gaby seduced Alejandro. Carlos is my favourite husband on the show he's always got Gaby's back like when he went to therapy with her because she couldn't face telling her therapist what happened and then here he stood outside listening leaving Gaby to handle it herself you could tell he was waiting to step in if Gaby broke down.
@@wickedwitchoftheeast88 out of all husband Carlos is the husband who loves his wife the most and understand her, do chores, love kids in general too :))). Gabi is the luckiest wife. He does love her for who she is. The rest husband in the show is just a good father who still love their kids but irresponsible, love to wife is so -so, :))) even Tom.
"I was a child but you were a grown up and you did nothing you should be ashamed of yourself" PEROIDT!
Got goosebumps down my spine. This is such a powerful scene.
I love this scene, not for Gabby's powerful moment, but also Carlos. Rather than follow her or come to her defense, he's right there behind her (like always) waiting for her moment to be finished so they can move on.
Such a powerful scene! It's tragic how some people of the church turn things around challenging such painful experiences of children! It's shocking that just today I've heard on a TH-cam psychologist's vlog a similar story!A 30 year old woman was sexually harassed verbally and physically when she was 14 years old by her aunt's second husband! She shared it with her confessor priest and when the time came to support her story he claimed that it was a figment of her imagination!
A wonderful scene with a wonderful actress. I love how Gaby's depth as a character shines through her shallowness. From an artistic standpoint, I loved how the light through the stained glass shined on her as she turned her back on the nun. Beautiful!
One of Gaby's most powerful moments ! That nun doesn't deserve to be nun, Gaby's right, she should be ashamed of herself .
I would have given ANYTHING for anyone to believe me about my abuse. My teachers put it down to me having a "Morbid Imagination" and my parents brushed it off because the guy who did it has "Bipolar" The saddest part about it is he is still allowed in the house I grew up in even after fifteen years. I'm 28 this year and I STILL blame myself
please don't blame yourself. Youre a victim! Of abuse! I'm so sooorry what he has done to you 😞 He should go to jail!
Wow... that is despicable. I want you to know that it was NOT your fault. You have NOTHING to blame yourself for. And the teacher and your parents should be ashamed of themselves. Bipolar does not excuse such a thing. There is no excuse for someone to hurt innocent people like that. Don't blame yourself. Those people are gaslighting you. You do not deserve that. And as for that guy, he is a piece of trash, and the fact that your parents still let him in their house after what you told them shows how ignorant they are. But you are a survivor and you deserve nothing but good things.
I like how this hints back to season 2, explains Gabby's hatred for Sister Mary Eunice a little more.
Oceans Noah Madison Don't you mean Mary Bernard?
+Oceans Noah Madison LMAO you got this show confused with American Horror Story.
The two characters do look alot a like. LOL
Her husband has always been supportive of her no matter what.
Ooooh that judgemental righteous hypocrite who looked at Gaby like she was worthless. I'm so glad Gaby didn't just let her walk away and confronted her.
Go gabby she's so brave for telling that nun she was wrong to ignore what she told her
Definitely my favourite scene too. The power of that scene and her words! “I thought i could trust you because you were my teacher and a NUN!” You go Gaby
What a bitch of a nun
Did anyone know that the nun was Jill Larson 2 time emmy nominated actress for All My Children. She played Opal.
great acting, i'm crying
I love Gaby she's my favorite character.
The nun was played by Jill Larson who played Opal on All My children. Totally did dent type of character and is unrecognizable in this role. She was fantastic in this
As a catholic, I don’t claim sister evil. She’s the one who should have been ashamed. Even if it was a show, there are horrible nuns who are like this
gabby was so good in this show shes so funny.
THATS why she has something against nuns. and sister marry
Emmy Worthy Performance! Underated!
If the nun herself was abused in this way as a child, she might know full well that Gabby is telling the truth, but believe that because she herself never received help, no one else deserves it. I feel like the man could rise from the grave and start scooping up children before the nun's very eyes and she'd find a way to justify it.
Good on Gaby standing up for herself
WHO WATCHING THIS IN 2017
I wish this was on netflix i'm almost done binge watching drop dead diva
the nun still looks self righteous after being told off.
Gabby’s mother and the nun, should be ashamed of themselves for not believing that her stepfather was a pedophile who abused her.
Oh my god, I always have to cry if I watch this ;(
This scene is amazing I honestly don’t trust nuns
Its the part where Gabby says she was a child and the nun was a grown up that hit me
Gabrielle puts her foot down and tells off the nun for invalidating her as a liar when her stepfather was the reason for SA her and caused Gaby to leave home at age of 15 dropping out of Catholic School. And now she tells Sister Marta she should be ashamed of herself.
It makes me sick that the nun refused to believe Gaby as a kid.
Some people think that just because they represent a position of moral authority whether it be nun, priest, elected representative, elder, etc. that they have the right to decide what is true or not because they feel entitled to maintain their version of reality. So when they are confronted with an ugly truth that makes them see people differently, particularly people they care about, they automatically suffer "cognitive dissonance" and call the victim crazy and discredit them leading to more trauma than there was before
Gabby just owned that nun
I never thought i would see Gabby break down like this
Watching this scene I can understand Gaby's hatred for Sister Mary back in season 2.
Very powerful moving speech 😢
From talking to the girls about the dangers of long division to talking to the nun about being abused.. gabby is definitely misunderstood sometimes
Really good stories
Makes sense why Gabby didn’t like that nun in season 2
Wow! This show is amazing.
Great job Gabby!
One of the best and most impressing scenes of dh ever. But I do not understand the word that Gaby is saying right at the beginning of this footage: "Young girls today need to know the dangers of ...what??". Thanks for helping.
To know the danger of long division
maroon5addict
Thank you. What does she mean by that? I don't understand it.
She was joking
No she wasnt, she said they cause frown lines
maroon5addict Sorry for asking again, I still don't get it. What does "long division" mean in this context? I have been wrecking my brain ever since, but still couldn't find the answer -)
Brilliant acting!
This is why there should be a curriculum in every grade for open discussion/counseling about life or anything in school for an hour. From preschool to senior year. Group therapy or one on one with a councilor. To open to any type of discussion it can be about anything random to bullying, poverty and abuse etc. This way kids have a fighting chance to grow up without any mental health issues. And the possibility to stop from these kind of things from happening as well.
I absolutely agree! I was heavily bullied when I was in school. If my school had something like that, I would've been able to handle things much better, and I probably would've hated school a lot less.
@@tiffanygray I was bullied in elementary school and then I got sexually harassed by boys in middle school and high school constantly. I hated school so much and I had nobody to talk to about it. I did terrible in school because of it. I was constantly nervous and always lashing out in anger.
The harassment from men continued into my 20s. I had deep depression for 15 years from it. I slowly pulled myself out of that depression in my early 30s but had I talked to a councilor about these kinds of things I would have not been as miserable for half my life.
I think it’s important for schools to see these warning signs about abuse.
What season and episode is this from?
This Is Season 7 I'm Not Quite Sure Which Episode But It's AfterGrace Leaves And Gaby Turns To Therapy Which Is Who Told Her To Visit Her Hometown. Season 7.
I don't trust nuns... A lot of phony ones in real life. I love how Gaby owned that nun and let her know. I miss this show!
Gosh I wish I was Gabby in that scene, I would given her more than a piece of my mind, with lots of shouting. 😡😡😡🔥🔥🔥🔥
What episode is this
Season 7, episode 15. "Farewell Letter."
I hate that nun
That nun is evil.
When I saw this Episode back when I was in high school and when Gabrielle confronts her former teacher for failing to help her when her step father rapped her I though that nun was going to come outside with her and apologized for not helping her but she didn’t but looking back at it now I think she does regret what she did and I saw it in her facial expression.
Nah she never regretted it she was pissed off Gaby made her listen this time around and made her accountable for doing nothing. That nun now has something heavy weighing on her conscience she ignored a child being abused because she judged Gaby as a sinner because she read 'tashy magazines' and now sees Gaby's pain first hand twenty years later. I wouldn't want to live with that on my conscience, if she continues to stay quiet she'll end up in hell for dying without confessing and repenting for that sin but if she confesses she's in trouble for not protecting Gaby and she will be judged quite harsly by the whole community for leaving a child she judged as a sinner to be abused. Can you imagine how that will eat away at her because whatever she does she's well and truly fucked and its her own faut for being a self righteous judgemental bitch. I'm wondering if it was her who tipped Alejandro off to Gaby being back in town how else would he have known what she was saying about him since Gaby only told the nun what was going on.
@@wickedwitchoftheeast88 so she did regret eventually
Gabby was the most powerful spoiled and selfish of all the characters and first her baby got switched and her uncle Abused her but she still a good person and a good mom and good wife to Carlos
This really happened to people😢
I am crying so so much I feel bad for gaby
strange that the nun won't investigate considering the heaviness of the situation and jumped to the convenient conclusion that gabrielle is a liar.
is the nun lazy or something? lol
Poor Gabrielle.
That nun deserves prison!! 😠😠😠😠😠
Wich season and episode is this?
What’s crazy these type of women are extremely common, it make me sick that they would rather attack the young attractive girl than to listen to her
