@jumbome7420 that's funny ... yeah we had: top ten, blockbuster, Hollywood and Prime video stores in Chicago near Northeastern university growing up then, living in Tarpon Springs, FL (on the gulf) we had a huge Blockbuster on U.S. 19 that we were still renting movies in the early 80's. 1982 was the first time I rented from a vidro store and was directly across the street from my apartment in Chicago, that was Top ten, which was owned by the coolest Hindus. We rented Animal house on Betamax (first rental ever), before we bought a Vhs and It was awesome ... being ten years old and my parents had no idea what I was renting. We were renting First blood, dawn of the dead, Texas chainsaw Massacre and so almost daily.... It was so cool and so new, which all my best friends were into movies like me, especially horror and of course 80 boobie movies. They had a xxx rated room with a curtain covering it that looked so inviting and he knew us and would never let us get close to that room being a little kid, buy I remember us hovering around waiting to get a glimpse of some nudity when a customer would go in or out....awww great times and fond memories of a time long gone. I'm 51 now, and I wish I could go back to those times for just a week (that would be glorious). God bless all of you CHH members and older guys like me....

I knew that in the 1990s people would go to these stores but I kept trying to warn the people who ran them not to support the Iraq war, the Afghanistan war or the war in Iran. They ignored that and that is why their businesses collapsed.

The streaming services offered you the opportunity to download educational content for free. Hostility by politicians and tech giants to that, is opening up the return of the video blockbuster store. If the companies can not see any reason for people to play their files, let them rent them instead.

I miss the video rental stores. I'm old enough to remember having a top-load VCR and having 5 different video rental stores in town. I rented The Slumber Party Massacre so much that my folks finally bought it for me.
I still ride around with my kids and point out the locations. One was called Gem Stone video. We used to buy our concert tickets there and buy horror merchandise too. Man we need Doc Brown and a DeLorean ASAP.

They got the fly for rent!? Total win, man I really miss these stores, I remember going to blockbuster with my family back in the US, I currently live in Mexico but when I came here, they also had three rental stores called video centro I believe, I didn't go too often but usually I went to ask if they had anything for sale, I bought some movies, even posters, and then one by one they started to go away, they started to sell their whole stock at very cheap prices but at the time I had no money, but what hurt me the most was indeed the stores going away, movies always confort me and to see these places go away just hurt me bad, I still have those movies and posters I bought and they're now my only pieces of evidence that these stores existed

When I was 18 I was able to create my own account and the first movie I rented was Halloween: H20.

If one of the landlords hadn't forced a five year lease on my neighborhood Jumbo Video, they might still be around today. However, all my local stores were gone by early 2017. You should start a series where you rent a few titles every couple of weeks. I feel like it would get lots of views. Also, I would love a slower glimpse around those new release aisles...but I know it can be awkward shooting in public. Seems like nobody else in the store and not many rented, but I am so glad they are staying business as usual. Shudder and Netflix titles on the shelves is epic, too.

If I didn't see something in the theater, I could wait for Redbox to rent it for $1 or $2. If I wanted to own the movie I could wait until the Blu-ray went on sale for $10 or less.
