I appreciate and respect your opinions but will now add some extra information just in case they change your viewpoint on some Pokémon or help teach you something new and interesting! Spidops is an ogreface spider just in the face but these spiders are also known to make little nets in their hands out of webs and drop out of trees to snare prey, like Spidops. Spidops is also a little wooden doll as well as a spool of silk, the silk being wrapped around its butt. Also it’s a little cranky old man cause of the moustache, angry eyes, and the vague vest shaped pattern on its chest. Lokix is somewhat based on Kamen Rider, the insect vibe vigilante superhero from japan. The Dark Type comes from the fighter of the night energy it has. Rabsca I believe has attained immortality. As a Rellor it rolls its little ball around, protecting it with its life. In the process it transfers some Psychic energy into the ball, slowly moving its own consciousness and soul into it. After evolving the ball contains most of Rellor/Rabsca’s psychic power and has also manifested an infant within the core of the ball. Once Rabsca’s body expires, the infant inside this psychic egg will hatch and become a new Rellor who will collect more dirt and mud and repeat the process eternally. Also Rabsca’s ball is like a third eye sorta trope motif and I like that. Rabsca is also one of two Pokémon that learn Revival Blessing, the other being Pawmot who just has defibrillators for arms. Wiglett as you’ve probably already had shoved down your throat repeatedly by the Internet is an example Convergent Evolution. A garden eel that looks and acts like Diglett because it just so happens they share a similar lifestyle of sniffing for food and predators and tucking in and out of holes. Conceptually great but looks incredibly silly and lazy which me personally, enjoy. Veluza is not just a fish, it’s a psychic fish that rapidly generates flesh and can forcibly jettison it off its own body, causing a spike of adrenaline and pain that hones its mind and senses, allowing it to become more effective at swimming and taking down prey. Self sacrifice into ascension to a higher plane sort of deal. Flamigo is a flamingo. But also it references old rubberhose animation with the knot tied in its neck and the snappy wiggly animations it has for its neck. Also it’s folded up wings from the side look like the thumb part on a boxing glove and the neck knot is the wrist cuff part. It’s torso is literally a boxing glove. Plus it’s ability Costar also plays with its animation media inspiration. Shroodle is not a mouse, they really gotta stop calling shrews and small mammals mice. Shroodle is a tenrec, a small shrew-like mammal native to Madagascar, the same place Lemurs are from, hence the Grafaiai connection. Palafin is a Superman reference. To evolve it needs to be level 38 which is a reference to Superman’s first debut comics coming out in 1938/1939. Plus the dip out of sight pretending to be a civilian to return as a big buff punching man is neat. Still horrifying to look at, but neat. Tinkatink is an ugly baby with a rattler who gets bullied. You can see the original rattle inside the middle of Tinkatuff and Tinkaton’s hammers, showing it never forgot its original roots which is adorable. Toedscool and Toedscruel are mushrooms that walk on their mycelium root things and also happen to look like Tentacool and Tentacruel. Unlike Wiglett, I think this is how Convergent species should properly be done and I love the goofy Squidward run. Kingambit is named after the King’s Gambit maneuver in chess, much like how Bisharp and Pawniard are also chess pieces. Kingambit also sits eternally because the King piece doesn’t tend to move much that much compared to the Bishop. Frigibax is based possibly on Minilla, the son of Godzilla who is notoriously ugly. Baxcalibur’s godzilla inspirations dig deep into the old rubber suits, even down to the hilarious gravity defying dropkick. (Google Godzilla dropkick and look at Baxcalibur’s signature move if you haven’t.) I also heard this Gen they hired a handful of new designers, so that’s why a lot of the Pokémon are fairly simple. Thank you for your time!
Thank you so much for all the info! I feel it's only fair I reply properly ^-^ I appreciate the spidops and lokix info but unfortunely I'm just not much of a bug fan in general! And I had heard about the kamen rider reference for lokix before I had just completely forgotton about out! thanks for reminding me :) And I can defintely appreciate Rabsca on a different level now! I don't think anything anyone says can change my mind about wiglet though XD You know what I find totally weird about Veluza... It's Dex card is actually really cool. But I have not managed to find it doing that in game once? If you know how to make it do the animation where it's body seperates please do let me know! Ok knowing that flamigo is a boxing glove does make me appreciate it more. If anything now I just wish theyd made it more obvious. Bet there's a cooler design on the cutting room floor. I had never heard of a tenrec until just now so thanks for introducing me to something new! fun fact about Almight then - He's based on superman himself. So there's naturally plenty of comparisons. The reason I said almight instead of superman in regards to Palafin, is the crest on Palafins chest is the same shape as the crest on Almights chest. Didn't realise the rattle referense in Tinkatink either - unfortuneately I have a great distain towards babies in general - especially the aspects that tinkatink represents so if anything that makes me like it even less XD agreed with toedscool and toedscruel being how convergent species should be done for sure! Again, I did know about the kingambit chess move reference I had just forgotton so thanks for reminding me again. And having googled Minilla, I've seen those images before but had never clocked it was Godzillas son! That does indeed makes me appreciate Frigibax wayyy more! And you know what, hearing they hired new designers for this generation makes sense. It's the first generation for me personally that doesn't seem to have an overarching theme to it's designs. It's got designs that are so literal they belong in gen 1 like mobostiff, designs so round and even more simple that they belong in gen 2 like clodsire or flamigo, and designs like skeledirge that are so hectic they look like they're from gen 5 and I've been wondering why this was. My guess that was having Masuda step down had lead to alot more individual artist creation - as Masuda had always said he had a habit to micromanage to the extreme - and that was the reason for the variation in designs. But if I consider that along with the new designers it makes a lot of sense as to why this generaiton is like it is. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
@@StrawberryTofu Veluza will jettison flesh off its body in the overworld while in the water to gain a speed boost to chase you. Alternatively using the signature move Fillet Away will have an animation where Veluza briefly detached flesh off its body, sacrificing 50% of its max HP in return for an Attack and Speed Boost. Personally I wish it was more like a form change like Meloetta where you jettison off flesh to swap into your skeletal form at the cost of HP and defences but can flip back to original after a few turns, but I still love Veluza just for how metal it is as a concept. Also explains why there are so many fish based dishes in the game, Veluza just keeps popping meat off and growing new stuff.
Miss Strawberry, You are absolutely awesome and I really liked that you take the time to explain every Pokemon. I really enjoyed the video and Nice Work overall!! 😃🌹
@@StrawberryTofu your welcome. I also agree with you about the fully evolved grass starter having the best design I Love your analogy with Dark Magician Girl Vibes ect.
@@StrawberryTofu absolutely Miss Stawberry ... I really can see the visualization of it all and I 😍 watching it and thus I really agree with your take 😃🌹
It seems to me that Capsakid and Scovillain were always meant to be spicy. From the words Capsaicin (the spicy compound) and Scoville (units of spicy heat) Love the video, though! Keep up the good work! :D
The Legendary quartet's backstory is that they were born from treasures brought to a Paldean king by a merchant from a distant eastern land. They're Chinese artifacts that have taken on other materials to turn themselves into Pokémon. Hence the Chinese theming.
3:10 How could you NOT? He's so Chonky! 9:00 Capsaikid isn't a kappa, it's actually a freshly pollenated chilli flower that is just turning into a fruit.the name itself, Capsaikid comes from Casaicin, the hot oil in chilli peppers and kid. Also, I'd love to see you do a video on the LGBTQ+ characters in Scarlet/Violet.
Can’t believe we waited so long for a dunsparce evolution only to get dudunsparce ;( Also pretty sure flittle might be based on an ostrich egg since it evolves into espartha, so it’s kinda of a fusion between an egg and a bird
Really respect your opinion on the list but I have to disagree on your thoughts on Skeledirge’s design, though. For me, I really love it because of its Dia de Muertos and Alebrije theme, which explains the patterns and the colors and its outlook being different from the other starters because it’s animalistic, beastly and quadruped. However, what really seals the deal for me was the fire bird, the lore of how it hatches and how can you not love the lil fella, it’s adorable. There’s also new idle animations for some Pokémon that can only be seen when accessing during the Team Star Boss fights areas and it shows more bonding animation between the Skeledirge and its bird companion. Same for the other starters too, they have new idle animations in that area. Overall, a good tier list and love that you begin to appreciate Gholdengo too.
Oh do not get me wrong! I love the little bird and all the themes and reasons for skeledirge to exist. I guess my problem is knowing all the themes makes me even more disappointed in how he turned out cause my brains like damn that's such a missed opportunity for some so epic 🤣 I can obviously see why plenty of people like him so much. He's just technically a very convoluted character design between the shape language and the colour palette (but mostly the shape language) and that's not personally my jam 💁🏻♀️
Was in the same boat with Scream Tail for a bit and was initially nervous cause I heard about Jigglypuff my favorite Pokemon finally getting a form of some sort back in Fall or so but when I played through it I absolutely loved it. Whoever decided to give her claw like feet/toes, fangs, eye color/marks and extend her puff her super long was pretty genius and I think works really well while keeping true to the og puff ^.^

I also know the origin of skeledirges design. However in my personal opinion, reasons for including certain parts do not forgive a lack of consistent line language and a convoluted colour palette 💁🏻♀️ like How quaquavel has many aspects and design elements to it, there is a way to create that design, have all the meaning behind it, and still have consistent line and colour language.
