I was looking for this Perfectly concise and humorous video to explain to people what the hell Rhetoric is, and why it matters. Your Video Nails it. Thank you!
“War. War never changes. In the year 1945, my great-great grandfather, serving in the army, wondered when he'd get to go home to his wife and the son he'd never seen. He got his wish when the US ended World War II by dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The World awaited Armageddon; instead, something miraculous happened. We began to use atomic energy not as a weapon, but as a nearly limitless source of power. People enjoyed luxuries once thought the realm of science fiction. Domestic robots, fusion-powered cars, portable computers. But then, in the 21st century, people awoke from the American dream. Years of consumption lead to shortages of every major resource. The entire world unraveled. Peace became a distant memory. It is now the year 2077. We stand on the brink of total war, and I am afraid. For myself, for my wife, for my infant son - because if my time in the army taught me one thing: it's that war, war never changes." - Nate Fallout 4
Can someone possibly help? What is a word for the type of speech that SOUNDS fancy and intricate, but doesn't actually say anything meaningful? Where the speaker is ignorant and just trying to sound intelligent. Can you refer to that as "meaningless/bullshit/empty rhetoric"? Cos I feel like the proper definition implies there is always intent behind rhetoric. The speech I am trying to describe would be spoken by someone who could be called pretentious, ostentatious, or pedantic... But what's the word for that type of speech? I guess "meaningless/bullshit/empty pretension" can be used in place of rhetoric as a noun....But that still doesn't quite seem to fit. I feel like there has to be a word for this...
Hey, maybe I can help you:) I'm studying rhetoric at the University of Tübingen in Germany and I'll consider myself somewhat of an expert in this field :D Usually the type of speech or persuasion that you describe is called "genus grande" which is Latin and means "a grand style of speaking". This genus grande is defined by huge (empty) phrases and a pathos evoking language, meaning it's meant to make you more emotional. These types of speeches will often times be perceived as "manipulative" and just alot of rambling but it is really important to understand that rhetoric does *not* equal manipulation!! Rhetoric convinces and persuades you through use of logic and a clear argumentation where as manipulation simply makes you say "yes" to things that you don't actually agree with. Hope I could help:) Greetings from Germany
Great answer covering the duality of this word! People fall in love with a hero, book or movie because of the use of rhetoric. Great people use rhetoric to convey their message so that recipients would enjoy and like the content.

Am deffinitly the kind of Person to freeze up, when people get angry with me.
What could i do to improve myself in that regard?
One tactic I use when I freeze up is to ask questions. My favorite: "What exactly do you mean by..."?
rhetoric is a speech or statement that doesnt need a reply such as Zino VGator 3 years ago
You are beautiful
Fallout 4 is pretty good game though.
