Hi Gerry, Great to see the harvest coming in. You are so right about the weather. I wrapped the last of the silage this evening, what was supposed to be my hay. You just couldn't depend on the weather and even light rain came this evening as we were finishing the bailing here in the WILD WEST. No four or five days in a row Just a diabolical year with weather and dissatisfied customers that I won't have the good hay I had for them last year. What can you do.💧😬. Great video as always.
Great video Gerry. Wish the weather would improve here. We can't harvest winter wheat with 19% water content so we got 2 Combines at half cut field on stand by! Love the older Combine my Grandads last Combine was John Deere 1085 similar looking then the nice one you got.
Ben Docherty The weather is an absolute nightmare but what can we do we have to work with it or try to anyway. Yes those older John Deere combines were a fantastic machine good
@@gerry6420 that's true we have to think on the positive side. I wasn't stuck for things to do like I configerated the new Seed drill and brought the bale trailer,s down from the yard we keep these things at. Always kept busy at this time of year.

I'd like to see a video explaining how harvesters work. I have absolutely no idea what the rolling thing at the front does. And then the mid section of the machine... NO idea how the innards work.

Nice sound from the John Deere heading out of the yard after tipping frist load of grain. How did you get the second trailer off the frist in the field Gerry? Just pull the pin and drive away? And what age is the 1055 I think it is combine? The older one
Would it ever be a possibility down the line of having your own combine so you could cut crops as & when suited or would it be worth the hassle?? A near neighbour is after resurrecting his NH 1545 this year after a few years of relying on contractors, not too many contractors down my way putting importance on a 15 acre job!
Glad your managing to gather it all in ok. Was it me or is there a lot of chaff coming off the combine this year?? The old neighbour has a 1055 (I think it's a 55) still parked in his barn, reminds me of watching him up and down down the field 😊
Casto yes there’s a lot of chaff. It’s because the straws also short,,,, some of it is actually getting blown away in the dust. Those 1055 were great machine.
@@gerry6420 did mine back in the summer of 85 ........wet summer .....a washout .........got sent off each day with a clippers and slash hook to was cut hedges .....when it spilled rain he took pity on me and i loaded dung with a 4 grain fork into a side spreader and he came out of the house to empty it and the cycle started again .........killed him that he had free labour but no weather to make the 10000 bales of hay he had planned to do .......

In wexford i got 4.3 ton to the acker on winter barley but my spring is desperate with weeds and its very tin so it had to be sprayed off yesterday
conor tobin parts of the country got rain earlier and then we didn’t and it helped that their winter crops. Around here all winter crops are awful
Took a while for you to get back it but it was well worth the wait 👍 heatwave on the way now

Yes we check moisture just to see how much water to add.... readings were from 14-17%....
