At the start of his career he was unapologetically himself all the time, he just kept doing that as he grew up and changed, continuing to be himself even if he wasn't the same.
I know a lot of people love to talk about cancel culture not being a thing around that time being the reason why Tyler the creator was able to succeed, but Tyler the creator literally was being canceled, he was banned from countries, ads pulled, every piece of media that said something about him was negative, groups were protesting him outside of his shows. You barley see anything like that happening to artist that a lot of people claim are “cancelled”

Old Tyler 2012-16 golden years. I was a teen and I felt I found music that made me feel seen especially as black girl who was a little different in the traditional culture. Me now happy this man said “ I just love sound” and that’s how I describe my love for music, I just love sound I don’t fit into a set genre.

I'm ony 2 years younger than Tyler, so I basically grew up with him. I was heavy into Odd Future and I'm still heavy into Tyler and Frank. We matured together and his music taste followed mine. From being a weirdo Black kid with my weirdo friends. Skating, being obnoxious... All that. Now I'm a Black woman still into weirdo shit but my taste is more refined as I've been exposed to more and more music. It's been an interesting social experiment for me to see what happens when you grow up with one of your favorite artists. Now he's got Le Fleur and is doing collabs with LV and even in fashion, I feel like he's on my level. I don't have any weird parasocial obsession lol, his music and influence has just been apart of my life for the last 13 years. That's a long ass time 😅

Tyler is a pioneer to all of us and how we think no matter what it comes down to Tyler was our voice for the youth and the rebellion and just the way teenagers and young people are nowadays and our minds, never did he say don’t be yourself. He’s a vibrant soul and I can’t wait for what he still has in stored for us.
