  • I cover the installation process of the carry handle on an H&K91 rifle. The install procedure is the same for the HK91 / 93 or any of the G3 clones.
Hope you find the vid informative or helpful in your installation.

I recently installed one of these on my PTR100GI. I installed mine so it folds to the left side over the charging tube, though I think this is technically incorrect. When it folds to the right, it causes all kinds of problems with ejection.
Edit: I have an original West German surplus HK manufactured claw mount: no joy. It won't install at the proper location. I spoke with Robert at RTG Parts and he said that the PTR is technically out of spec. Obviously, a surplus HK manufactured claw mount is by definition in spec. After everything I've tried, I believe him!
Glad I found your channel. Subscribed.

I have tried installing the handle both ways, and when it's installed folding to the left, it has better balance. That is without a scope of any type installed though. Having an optic installed and having it fold to the right I would imagine is very unbalanced. I'm pretty sure I'm not going with a short profile scope, so I'll leave it this way for the time being.
I haven't had any issues with ejection on mine yet. Out of curiosity, have you tried different ammunition? As for the PTR, I've only played around with them at ranges, but never had a chance to mess around with swapping parts and doing any testing.
Also, thank you for the comment and for subscribing.

@@pewpewreview5043 I've only fired Federal 175 grain NATO in it. Never had a problem with ammo, cycling, ejecting, etc. The only issue I had was the ejected brass impacting the folded carry handle when I originally had it installed to fold to the shooter's right. Swapping it to a left side fold solved that.

@@bhoward9378 Interesting. I've run 150s, 168s and 175s without ejection issues. I'd be curious if something else might eject at a sharper angle or harder to clear the handle on the right. At least you were able to turn the handle around and run it.

@@pewpewreview5043 Probably has to do with his bolt velocity, due to bolt gap + roller size + locking peice angle.
Faster bolt velocity would be more violent with (fixed ejector) ejection.
I am curious though how your handle affects the rubber brass deflector add-on. If it fits, or doesn't. That mangles cases more.

@@nathan_k Wonder if there is a difference between the weight of the bolts, or possibly recoil springs.
I haven't looked at the rubber deflector for my 91.

Thanks for the video it helped me a lot intalling this on my HK-93. I went the other way and did LHS mount though. I won't be mounting a long scope, and I noticed that it is actually better ballanced with the handle more to the rear - at least with HK-93 with full mag.

Mine definitely has a better balance reversed from my install as well. I honestly don't utilize it, it's more just for aesthetics.

Any idea who used these carry handles? I can't seem to find any pictures of soldiers with carry handles on their G3s and I'm curious to know what time period/country they came from.

Seems to be an official HK part that was never licensed with the G3. I think it was made a year or two after the G3 began service use, something about soldiers complaining about the FAL - G3 switch was lack of said handle. They made one but the bundeswehr never bought any apart from a couple of Fallschrinjager units.

I have two of the original HK Wide handguards on a old ban era JLD PTR91 and the Green hand guard is so tight I have to use a punch to get it on or off is that common?

Why won't it work with the slime line wow forend hand guard? Those hook block the hand guard from seating into the receiver???

I'm not sure, I never tried installing a slim handguard over the carry handle.

What stock do you have on it?

      @pewpewreview5043  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's a factory HK91 stock, it just has a removable cheek riser attached.

      Thank you for the comment.
I'm pretty sure I explain that it can go on either way depending on the user's desired end setup. However, I ended up mounting a Swarovski 1.5-4.5x20 that allowed me to turn it around and not have any issues with making contact with the scope.
