You also definitely check out the Best ever food review show channel, they just recently went to Zimbabwe (he's also done quite a few series on different African countries that I highly recommend!) and made some amazing videos about the food and the culture. It was pretty awesome to see it get given the attention it so deserves but rarely ever gets. African cuisine in general, is so varied and different, with every country,city,village ect. having it's own unique and different style and it has such an amazing and storied history behind it...It's almost criminal how ignored it is by the food world, especially considering the amount of influence it has had on so many different cuisines around the world. That's why I love restaurants like the featured on this video, because it shares such a amazing culture and cuisine to people that may have never had the chance to try it otherwise and also develop a greater appreciation for it at the same time.

There’s also some for phenomenal Ethiopian food in Durham as well. The Durham Chapel Hill area also has a decent size minority of East Asian immigrants so there’s also some phenomenal Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese restaurants around here. A personal recommendation of mine is if you’re in the mood for ramen DASHI in downtown Durham is fantastic

I used to live in Durham n can’t believe I never visited this restaurant . One day I will take a trip up there just to try out Zimbabwean food . It’s very similar to Kenyan food that I grew up eating

As a South African from the northern parts of the country, close to the Zim border, I found this video very enjoyable. All the food in this video are stuff I eat at least three times a week. Pap/Sadza I eat almost daily

Boerewors is originally from South Africa. BOER is what they called the Afrikaans people. And WORS means Sausage. It's literally one of South Africa 🇿🇦 national foods. Think you need to Visit South Africa Mark you will LOVE the food here. Great video

You do know that Afrikaans was sidelined in favor of English for obvious political issues in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe despite close to half of the settlers being Afrikaners.

Videos like this are bitter sweet, I love seeing all the different types of food but then knowing I can never try them for myself, I have a rare blood clotting disorder I can't travel I've had over 70 blood clots upto date I'm 34 years old and live in a tiny town in the UK so food choices arent that explorative, without videos like this I'd never be able to even sort of experience different foods so I am very great for them.. Plus the faces mark pulls just tells u it's good food lol

@@jaybeazy4978 I would say the greens with peanut butter that is Zimbabwe; the wings and oxtail just a cross over with other countries; then pap its a staple for most African countries; the fact she also used ugali name that is kenya; then boerewoers and chakalaka that is South African. But chakalaka was mainly baked beans than the chakalaka as it did not have all the ingredients

Wow! I was surprised to see that was in NC. I wander how far it is from where I live. We have had oxtail only once or twice and it was incredible. That lady is so beautiful, the family seems so friendly, and the food looks incredible.
OH MY 😳 every video from Mark makes me hungry but this cuisine makes me STARVING! I would definitely order the same meal & have 2 big full plates just as he did! Clayton , I was just going to mention what you wrote about Boerewors, that it originated in S.A. Dry Vors, and boerewors was definitely a very frequent item on our plate growing up in C.T. Zweli's looks great and such a find in N.C.
It is called nyama choma in Kenya and is popular with the Bantu speaking tribes including those in East Africa the same way with ugali also called sadza in Zimbabwe or pap with the South African natives but of course South Africa uses Afrikaans names unlike other Southern African and East African nations.

What is this clown talking about, i have never eaten any South African traditional meals, i have been to south africa a couple of times however, staying in hotels yeah but these meals are our authentic zim dishes since the begginning of time really, the only thing that was introduced to us is the boerewores by white afrikaans/dutch people in Zimbabwe and it has been sold in supermarkets like ok Zimbabwe since the 1940s and dutch farmers in Zimbabwe were making these since the 1700s, and i can understand zweli calling that bean stew chakalaka because she is Ndebele and she comes from nothern Zimbabwe but its a famous been stew which has always been our dish, my grandparents taught us how to prepare that bean stew, and the oxtail is what we are really known for in Zim, so its either you are delusional or you just a mere troll or hater mate.

It originates from the Bantu speaking tribes and people but not limited to them because most Africans have similar cuisine but different names in each culture. Kenyans call it nyama choma. The South African natives use Afrikaans because of the settlers there unlike other Southern African and East African countries who still have names for it in their indigenous languages.

Zimbabwe was colonized from South Africa... that explains your Boerewors. Zimbabwe shares several language groups with South Africa, thus a lot is similar on cuisine as well, but there are differences. Zimbabweans generally do no like abo Kale and Cabbage

@@jaybeazy4978 I would say the greens with peanut butter that is Zimbabwe; the wings and oxtail just a cross over with other countries; then pap its a staple for most African countries; the fact she also used ugali name that is kenya; then boerewoers and chakalaka that is South African. But chakalaka was mainly baked beans than the chakalaka as it did not have all the ingredients
Don't forget that Mark grew up in Africa. He's at home in these kinds of restaurants.

Wow! I was surprised to see that was in NC. I wander how far it is from where I live. We have had oxtail only once or twice and it was incredible. That lady is so beautiful, the family seems so friendly, and the food looks incredible.
OH MY 😳 every video from Mark makes me hungry but this cuisine makes me STARVING! I would definitely order the same meal & have 2 big full plates just as he did! Wish I was close by cause I’d frequent them often! Congrats on your multiple locations & future endeavors Zweli! Hopefully one day I’ll make it to NC!

Clayton , I was just going to mention what you wrote about Boerewors, that it originated in S.A. Dry Vors, and boerewors was definitely a very frequent item on our plate growing up in C.T. Zweli's looks great and such a find in N.C.

It is called nyama choma in Kenya and is popular with the Bantu speaking tribes including those in East Africa the same way with ugali also called sadza in Zimbabwe or pap with the South African natives but of course South Africa uses Afrikaans names unlike other Southern African and East African nations.

What is this clown talking about, i have never eaten any South African traditional meals, i have been to south africa a couple of times however, staying in hotels yeah but these meals are our authentic zim dishes since the begginning of time really, the only thing that was introduced to us is the boerewores by white afrikaans/dutch people in Zimbabwe and it has been sold in supermarkets like ok Zimbabwe since the 1940s and dutch farmers in Zimbabwe were making these since the 1700s, and i can understand zweli calling that bean stew chakalaka because she is Ndebele and she comes from nothern Zimbabwe but its a famous been stew which has always been our dish, my grandparents taught us how to prepare that bean stew, and the oxtail is what we are really known for in Zim, so its either you are delusional or you just a mere troll or hater mate.

Hi Mark.....been watching you for years...i am from Zimbabwe now living in the UK.....so impressed you got to try the food....i make my own boerewors and biltong and spend most weekends having a braai (as the open method of cooking is known)...with sadza as well......they need to open up in the UK..😁....glad you enjoyed...Jason

Have a friend from South Africa. She fed us Peri Peri one time and, damn, thought the burn would never stop. Great flavor. She also made several,veggie,dishes that were,exceptional.

Zimbabwe was colonized from South Africa... that explains your Boerewors. Zimbabwe shares several language groups with South Africa, thus a lot is similar on cuisine as well, but there are differences. Zimbabweans generally do no like abo Kale and Cabbage
