YES! I've been looking for a plan B for when the Paper Cutter gets blocked. This looks like it can form part of a decent submission chain. Thanks Chewy!
If there was a super like button I would hit it. One stripe white belt here, we just learned the paper cutter in class yesterday, but I couldn't hit it in the roll as everyone knew it was coming...Can't wait to try this out!
Greetings from Malaysia! 5-6 month since I started my journey into BJJ. Tried this setup last week against a blue belt and I ALMOST had him but I forgot to attack the neck and didn’t throw my leg under his shoulder properly. After my failed attempt, he crushed me lol. Thank you for the video man. Suuuuuper helpful!
I really like that micro adjustment detail regarding hiding your grips on the shoulder (or lapel) in order to avoid telegraphing the armbar. Sneaky! Also, much respects to Adam (and the way he shakes his hands during the intro/outro). He really looks like a fun and knowledgeable person to train with.
Yo! That’s sneaky as hell, I’ve never seen anyone do it that way! I’m a heavy side control guy, I’d rather be in side than anywhere else. Always looking to up my side control submissions!
Thanks Chewie for amazing content and description. I have been applying this move for a few months now and I decided This is part of my “A game” attacks and I have been catching people with this sub left and right, even a few higher belts!I’m still a white but feel super close to getting my blue! The surprise element to this move is what I think is the best. It really catches people off guard. I’m also a 240 lb 6’3 that loves to play in Top side control. Absolutely one of my favorite moves. Mahalo and Aloha from Oahu Hawaii!
Very nice move! Never seen that setup before. There is also a sneaky shoulder lock there if you sit out and hook your near leg over them. I use to do that when they defended the paper cutter, but I am definitely going to try this one out!!!
Thanks chewy Before lockdown here in Australia I was starting to hit this. Have just come to rewatch as a refresher because I’ve struggled a couple of times since. Sneaky move indeed 😁
Chewjitsu was my first BJJ chanel I subscribed to because of the mental stuff Chewie talks about . I was so scared of going to my first class , I walked passed 3 times pretending I was just walking around then I watched Chewies videos to help me over that mental hump. I also I appreciate the video where Chewie talks about the loss of his mom , anyway Chewie is much more than BJJ for me . Keep training oss
I just used this today at the gym, and worked great. Took a little longer than I thought for my partner to move his arm from my right side to the left but I just kept moving to the right forcing his arm under and over.
I'm a smaller guy (60kg) and this would happen to me alot but they're basically just giving you their arms, work on getting those armbars and they'll think twice before bench pressing you again!
Chewy thank you so much for this. I don’t have a ton of moves but one of my go to is the paper cuter choke from that position holding the collar. I almost always get it the first time but rarely a second as they recognize it as it kinda creeps up on you. That arm bar transition is genius and I can’t wait to try it Friday! Thank you!
So did an extra class yesterday and it worked amazing!! Gotta dial it in a bit but wow! Thanks again. Wife was like why you going back to class again. I was like I gotta practice this new move I saw on Chewys channel today 😂.
Hi Chewy, I'd watched the similar moves from Silver Fox video before but it was more like 20/80 only success. Hope your extra detail works! such as pretending a neck attack which will make yourself even tighter to the opponent. I can't wait to try it out in an hour at the gym :) I'll give you my feedback for sure!
@@Chewjitsu just came back from my gym. I've tried your arm lock 3 times during 5 x rolls today and had 1 perfect success :) I found tucking the knee in not too deep and pinching the arm with it works better. Without pinching the arm, guys go hitch-hike escape easily. Having said that, a tip with fake neck attack works very well😉 cheers as always!
Chewy! Thank you as always for the great content. Do you have any recommendations for escaping turtle chokes (such as the anaconda and the Peruvian necktie)? I am a white belt and was trying to find some useful resources for surviving if I end up in the turtle position. Thank you :)
Chewy, I attack the paper cutter from here often, question when you attack the paper cutter do you prefer to sprawl out flat or do you pull your partner up on their side? I have been working this arm bar but miss it a lot but I can see you fall back a little differently then I do so I’m gonna try that! You did a seminar at the gym I train at in St Louis your awesome!
@chewjitsu do you train grip endurance? I just started a few weeks ago. My arms and forearms get so pumped and gassed out after just a few rolls. I get to where I can barely defend myself after about 30 minutes. Thanks so much for your channel!
I've been using this move for a few months now. A few katz now are escaping using the hitch hike escape. Usually, I let them go because I don't want raise my knee to put more pressure, I don't want to hurt my training partners. Can you address a counter to the escape? Thanks!
I have a question about a possible technique that I came up with when thinking of different scenarios. If an attacker tried to take me down with a Double Leg and I sprawled it, leaving me on top, could I shift myself to the right so I can grab his left arm with my right hand, wrap my left arm under his left and grab my right wrist with my left hand, essentially keylocking his arm then pulling it upward, like a Fujiwara Armbar. Would that work or not?
Nice. I learned that one back in the day from Jean Jacques Machado like he shows here at th-cam.com/video/Q6qUrMVABTM/w-d-xo.html @2:30 Once you get used to it you can be in normal side without controlling the near arm. Go for Americana on the far arm and when the near arm rises snatch it. Can sometimes place your shin flush gently without setting off alarms ahead of time.
I have watched this video 10 times and I've been trying to drill it at my gym but everytime I try this in live rolling my opponent just circles away from me as soon as I lean back for the armbar and I end up getting stuck on the bottom of side control. Can anyone offer any help for this?
Why are we leaving the right arm free to assist the face/head and I'd like to see the possibility of the head being caught in a under arm lock preventing most of this movement or creating a possible situation where they take the top by causing a roll over
We're so fucking lucky that we get this kind of content for free. Thank you, Chewy!
We are him, and grappling academy ooof Godsend😭😭😭🔥🔥
Yep in my day we had to pay 200$ an hour to a narcissist Brazilian for these techniques.
You know, that is so true! Thank you for making such a great point!

You're welcome.
This is perfect for me. I use the bread cutter often from a similar setup. This will be a perfect addition to that
i really appreciate chewy and eli knight for their free content that is useful and well-presented.
That ending clap being synced with the music was INCREDIBLY satisfying lol. Also excellent technique. Gonna try it tomorrow night.
Love this. That paper cutter is one of my go tos will be fun hitting my friends with thsi
One of my absolute favourite armlock set ups. Great to see it getting the kudos it deserves.
Found this video yesterday and tried it tonight in rolling, caught it twice, beautiful technique, thanks Chewy
This is gold
I think I first saw Paul Schreiner teach this technique 5 years ago and made it a point to work it into my game. Love it.

I love that Adam is back!!!
I love going into north south from side control, to the point that most people know what series of attacks are coming, cant wait to sneak this one in!

Like this! What’s to stop the guy from coming up though? Keen to see more on this variation of armbar, this is not overly technical or difficult
The leg over the head is stopping the bottom person coming up.

Are you doing anything in particular to prevent the hitch hiker escape?
Hey Chew , do you have a video of how to prevent your opponent from turning into you when your doing the paper cutter?
Had to watch the video twice because I was distracted by chewy's gi. Anyone know where I can find one?
Believe he had those custom ordered.

How would you replace/modify the paper cutter for no gi?
dumb question but could you also scoop up the other elbow rather then attack the neck?
Thats a beautiful set up. My question is. How do you keep your partner from hitchhiking out?
Wait… did I see jazz hands? Nice video by the way.
What's the reason for switching the arm to the other side ? Can it not be done the same without that ?
This would’ve been great on my bigger opponent tonight. I had the dominant positions, but I couldn’t finish my rear naked he had a strong grip.
