    IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome) is one of the most common reasons individuals seek care of a physician. However, it is often hard to heal, having deep roots in anxiety, stress, and emotions. Whether you suffer from bloating, cramping, diarrhea, or constipation, this video will help to soothe the tummy and have you feeling better in no time.
    There are some amazing yoga books out there that talk about IBS in particular Gary Kraftsow’s Yoga for Wellness and Timothy McCalls Yoga as Medicine.
    Here is the primary link for a great resource for research on the use of yoga in working with IBS. You just have to scroll down and I believe IBS is number 49 on his list:

    Here is a second video on yoga for IBS that you can use for the whole body:

    I recently listened to this interview on hormones and gut health and found it absolutely fascinating and have been making some changes for myself based on her advice, and also following Sara Gottfried online as she posts great free information on her instagram.

    Hey! I’m only 15 yrs old, but I suffer from pretty bad IBS. I was waking up every morning in pain and sobbing. I always thought yoga was overrated until I found your video. I do it every morning, and it has GREATLY decreased my symptoms. You are a life saver.

      Hi! I am so sorry to hear you have been suffering with IBS. That is so tough to be dealing with that on top of all of the other stressors in life as a teenager. I am beyond thrilled and moved that this practice is making such a huge difference for you. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you writing and sharing a bit about your journey and story. Thank you so much for taking the time to drop a comment! Wishing you continued decrease in your symptoms and warmest blessings on your journey. I am an avid yogi and have done thousands of classes online and in studio, this is the most focused class on IBS that I have ever done. Its very gentle with simple poses put together in a way that really soothes the digestive track and for me my IBS bloating. The bridge massage in particular feels great and was new to me.

      @@nikitaadhikari9306 Hi Ganesh, thanks so much for writing! Some people notice immediate differences in doing this practice others feel the difference after a week or two of daily practice. Unfortunately there is no one size fits all approach to working with IBS. And while these practices work well for some people, it may not feel great for others. I encourage you to listen to your body and if something isn't feeling right to pause the practice. I hope you feel better soon!

      Hi Hana, I hope your exam went well! How did you feel in it? Sometimes the restorative yoga can also be a helpful tool for those stressful moments. I also personally always use the "grounding yoga" practice that includes tremoring right before a big exam or test in order to release some of that extra stress energy just before an exam or a big meeting. If you haven't checked out those two videos on this page, give them a try and let me know what you think! I hope your exam went well! Warmest blessings to you :)

    Hey Cait.
    I am a 30 yr old software engineer , vegan and a meditation practioner in Concentrative, contemplative and mantra science.
    IBS has been troubling since lock down from march and Long hours of sitting in front of PC is not helping either.
    Doctor has told me I have IBS and I should do yoga.
    I start my day with your video now.
    I feel way way better.

      Hi Pankaj OM Srivastava, thank you so much for your warm words of encouragement and for sharing a bit about your journey. I am delighted to hear you have discovered mantra and contemplative practices.
      Definitely sitting in front of the computer for hours on end with lockdown is putting lots of stress, physically and emotionally on our digestive tracts. I find the third chakra, our seat of power, can be dimmed a bit in this season of feeling out of control with covid. It sounds like you have a really wonderful doctor who recommended yoga for IBS as a go to, rather than trying to cover up the symptoms with a pill. I find digestive issues are often trying to get our attention with something and tell us something is off...which makes sense, since our bodies weren't designed to be at a computer for hours on end each day.
      I am so delighted that you discovered these practices and that you are feeling so much better in your body. I can't tell you how much it means to me that you wrote and shared a bit of your story. I hope so much that my TH-cam videos empower people to feel better in their bodies at home, and I am glad to hear it did just that for you.
      Wishing your warmest blessings on your journey!

    Thank You for this wonderful video. There are few queries:
    1. Can This be done twice for better results?
    2. What to eat in IBS and what not to?
    3. Is 6 hours sleep sufficient ?
    4. How to overcome weakness in IBS ?

    • @CaitAllison
      @CaitAllison  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Binay, thanks so much for writing. I am so glad to hear you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. Yes, you can absolutely do the video twice a day or more if that feels good in your body. Or if there are particular parts of the video that feel good for you, you could weave those in 2-3 x per day. Every single person with IBS has different bodies and responses to foods. I have heard of the FODMAP diet for IBS, however, I think it really can be different person to person and I'm not sure there is a one size fits all approach. The research I am familiar with on sleep is that 8ish hours is a bit more ideal. But again, every one has a different system. Perhaps try getting 8 hours of sleep / night for a week and notice if you sense any change in your digestive system. I am not sure I understand your question in overcoming weakness, however try these practices for a bit and just notice how it feels for you. Sometimes just the practice of slowing down, sensing our body, can have huge and lasting impacts on our nervous system. I hope that helps and I wish you warmest blessings on your journey :)

Let me have a think on the GERD and do a bit of research. Off the top of my head I don't know any specific poses that help with that other than the ones I suggest in the video. But I will do a bit of research over the weekend and see if there are any other great poses out there for GERD. Using the finger tips to gently tap across the chest can be soothing to the nervous system, and I wonder if that might help, but I will do a bit of research and get back with you on this. @@pranaykhobragade2788 Hi Pranay, thank you so much for your patience in waiting for a response. I checked with a few people this weekend and I couldn't get a clear answer on practices specifically for GERD. What may be helpful is working on some calming and soothing practices for the central nervous system, and calming the vagus nerve, the largest nerve in the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps with rest and digest. Have you had a chance to check out my "Yoga for Anxiety" video on this channel? It's got several grounding and balancing practices for the nervous system. Particularly bumble bee breath is wonderful for calming the nervous system. I am sorry to not be of more help, but I will hold your question on my mind and if I find anything else specific to GERD I will respond again. Warmest blessings to you!

      Hi Jennifer, wonderful question! Most of the exercises are DR friendly. I would recommend watching the DR 1 video to learn uddiyana bandha, the belly-lock that will keep you stabilized in these poses and to keep your core engaged to support your spine while doing these exercises. I would recommend avoiding the bridge with the block and the belly massage if you have DR. I hope that is helpful! Hi. Thanks for sharing. You mentioned sometim after the 15 min mark the clockwise massages may move things alon quicker than expected 😳. Is this for IBS-D or C sufferers? Or either one? As a person with D, I definitely need nothing moving faster. Lol. Very relaxing routine though!

    • @CaitAllison

      Wonderful question! So the exercises and the self massage is for both. In the case of IBS-D, the self massage helps to push things along for consolidation, but in the case of IBS-C, it helps to loosen things up a bit so that it can pass. It really is meant to help create a regular, consolidated flow. I hope that answered your question! Please let me know how the exercises work for you and if you notice any differences :)

      Hi Nature Nest, I am so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain each evening. That sounds really tough and I know how painful cramps can be. Have you been able to try the practices in this video? Did you notice any differences after doing the practices? Have you been able to get in to see a doctor? I think the only other things that I haven't mentioned in the video that I find personally helpful for my own stomach are drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning, and taking warm epsom salt baths at night or sometimes if I don't have access to a bathtub, taking a warm towel with Epsom salts and resting it on my belly has been soothing. I hope these practices are able to bring a bit of relief and wishing you warmest blessings on your journey!

      @@NatureNest Hi Nature Nest, I am so sorry to hear you have been suffering with that pain for so long. And from what I have been reading India has been hit super hard the past few months with Covid. I will keep you in my meditations. Some people have shared in the comments that doing these practices regularly have been helpful. There may be other people in the comments that are also able to share more of what has worked well for them and what might be helpful. Here are two other videos that might be of support. One is a very gentle restorative practice and the other is a full body IBS video. If any of it feels like too much, please listen to your body and stop the practices. I hope these help and I would love to hear from you after you've have a few times to do the practice regularly to let me know how it feels in your body. Wishing you warmest blessings.

      Hi Abhishek, thanks so much for writing! Great question! I go through the number of reps in the video, just in terms of watching the full video and doing it with me is the full practice. However, if you have more time at home and a desire to up the reps, you can always repeat the number of times you do each individual exercise. Just make sure you are listening to your body and what feels right for you. I hope you enjoy the practice!

    • @CaitAllison
      @CaitAllison  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI Giraudet, thanks so much for writing. I wonder, which posture in yoga have you been using? Is it a yoga posture from this video or from somewhere else? It's always a good idea to check in with your doctor before starting a yoga practice. If you have the all clear to practice, you might find that restorative poses are more supportive for your body at this time. I have another yoga video called "deep stretch" that might be a gentle, restorative practice you could try too. Or if you haven't tried this Yoga for IBS video yet, maybe start slowly, only doing 1-2 postures from this video and see how it impacts your body. There is no one size fits all practice, so it can be helpful to listen to your body and avoid the poses that seem to make things worse. If you have any questions, I am happy to answer to the best of my ability. Warmest blessings to you on your journey!

      @@sagarahmed5911 Hi Sagar, I am so sorry to hear that doctor's in Bangladesh haven't been helpful. I am not sure of any foreign doctors that do web consultations. Dr. Timothy McCall has done a lot of great research on the benefits of yoga for specific health conditions: www.drmccall.com/.
      Dr. Mercola also has lots of great information up on his website. www.mercola.com/.

    I’m sorry but No. This may help with constipation but I do not want more intestinal activity. I want less. The same exercises do not work for both. Also, you said you’d be explaining the science behind this sequence but you meant click on the link. Please consider doing separate classes for people who suffer from diarrhea. We do not need to be more squeezed.

    • @CaitAllison
      @CaitAllison  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joqatana, thanks so much for taking the time to write a comment. I can understand your frustration and I know it does seem counter intuitive for the practices to be beneficial for both diarrhea and constipation. Did you have a chance to read through any of the other comments on the video? While many people have shared that they found this practice helpful for them, there is certainly no one size fits all approach. Did you have a chance to try the exercises yourself? It's important to honor what feels right in your body, and this practice may not be that. There are certainly plenty of other videos out there too that may be a better fit for what you are looking for. If I can answer any questions, please let me know. Best of luck on your journey.

      Cait Allison I was just talking about this with my nurse friend. She doesn’t do yoga so couldn’t really give me an informed opinion. I’ve been doing yoga for nearly 50 years so yeah, I follow my intuition in these cases. It seems to lead me in the right direction. Even when I argue with it. Thank you for responding.

      @@joqatana Wow, that's great that you have had such a sustained practice. Have you checked out Dr. Timothy McCall's work? He goes much more in depth on the science behind the practices and the evidence based research for yoga. I believe he just recently started a TH-cam channel as well called Ask the Yoga Doctor Timothy McCall, and that may be another resource. Again, thanks for writing and for honoring what's right for you.
