Appreciate the shoutout Ciaran! It was my first cut but man it was LONG overdue, I make day 2 at basically every regional I've been to but I always lose the matchup roulette day 2. Luckily I didn't play any ancient box but played my fair share of everything else and felt I played extremely well. Hopefully it's first of many and I'm ecstatic to say my first cut is with a deck I love very much. I'm a CPAO fanatic for sure ❄️❄️
I always say it's a numbers game! If you're a strong player, who plays good decks, and plays good Pokemon you'll break through eventually! Hopefully this is the first of many for you! - Ciaran
I'm sure a lot of people would disagree, but I'd love for reprints of every year of Worlds decks. I would've played in the retro 2006 tourney at Indy on Friday but the decks are prohibitively expensive to assemble
When I was a kid I loved the reprints of M:tG Worlds decks with the gold borders. Anyone who actually knows TCGs would agree with you. Myself and my friends bought Worlds decks that couldn't be used in tournaments because we had examples of Proven decks we could practice with. It feels better in your hands, printed proxies are azz.
I wish these were longer ! Keep rocking i was rooting for ciaran during indie ive learned alot about pao and made my first local top cut with pao ! Id like to see some more streams and stuff cause its really nice to learn more about the game.
There is always one expanded champions league in Japan and it’s the only expanded tournament where you can get anything towards an invite and it is run along side a standard champions league so the people in that area aren’t just stuck with expanded
Looks like TPC dug themselves into a hole with printing charizard. This same situation happened back in Magic's Modern format in 2015. There was 1 deck called splinter twin, there were very many variations to the deck but it always had a way to go infinite. In the meta you literally had to either play the card/deck or play decks that had a decent matchup into it. Couldnt play rogue decks into it unless you were an extremely skilled or main'd the rogue deck. It basically shut out any fun decks because its the same argument as with charizard. You either play the deck or play decks that have decent matchups otherwise theres no reason to play other decks. I know TPC is in their own bubble but if they looked around at the big bad MTG past issues like printing charizard and it being this wild probably wouldnt have happened. But luckily they can just print cards to make the deck worse vs people having to endure the deck until it rotates out.
I don't think Charizard is that bad tbh. A year ago Lugia was definitely way worse. It's just the natural way of things that something will be the strongest. It also allows for creative decks like Dialga to shine if you can correctly predict the meta! - Ciaran
i am a vgc gamer who is doing the opposite, getting into TCG. VGC isn’t “serious” they’re just losers. Card games are more inherently social while VGC players are just permanently online. After going into some card shops recently, it’s the people themselves 100%
I definitely love the social aspect of the TCG. The community is fantastic, and a big reason I love playing so much. That's sad to hear your experience with that has been poor on the VGC side. Do you find people are less social at vgc locals as well? - Ciaran
@@ShiftGearPodcast i wouldn’t say my experience has been poor, it’s just like a relative thing. i just find that TCG players are more willing and able to engage in casual conversation
I think it will survive, but might become a tier two deck if the Dragapult matchup isn't strong. Probably have to adapt and play the 70 HP Frigibax. - Ciaran

I'd be game for this, I think these golden eras of the game need to be more accessible - Aneil

JP all day, the true gamers.
Oh that's cool that they offer it alongside standard so new players aren't gatekept by cost - Ciaran
Okidogi and Munkidori are dope in VGC because of their abilities and options. You'd have to brew with em to appreciate it.
expanded defo happens a lot i live in japan and at my local its like twice a month standard twice a month expanded and then one box tourney
JP all day.
This shocks me but sounds sick, I almost want it back in NA just for a change in pace - Aneil
I love Chien Pao 🥳
Cpao 🥶🥶🥶🥶 - Ciaran

i guess losers is harsh they just have less social skills

@Leo-ry3kx Being accurate isn't harsh, but it might get you targeted by a mob of _____
Yo I got the best Idea. For people with the most amount of play points give them priority reg to the pokemon center at IC's
Yeah everyone's ego tells them their idea is the "best" idea, gj!
idk seemed like a good idea when it came into my brain@@brandonweaver5910
Where can I find the grimace hat Aniel????
They clicked on your comment for the algorithm and didn't answer your question, fake af amirite
Do you guys think CPAO will survive this next set of cards?

Your polish is pronunciation needs work my guy regardless lit podcast
Damn Aneil, your Polish was actually surprisingly decent (of course very bad but man, does Polish prononciation suck)!
It was a struggle to learn I'm not gonna lie, definitely the hardest language yet
