Spotlight needs both customisation options and shortcuts (something like def for word definitions, pressing space to search on Finder, etc). This is basically Alfred, but should simply be integrated into the OS.

It’s already happening, but that future will end up being lots of inbred content full of increasingly false info as people just blindly believe LLM generated content and echo it. The truth is far more valuable than lies, it lies are cheap and easy.
websites are just a means of communication. if the means changes, people will adapt. the future is about informing ai assistants on new data, not making websites. There was a time before the internet and websites, that is an adaptation too.

Just Incase you didn’t know, on any modern search engine you can append “filetype:pdf” or “filetype:jpeg” etc. to your search, and it will only show results matching that file type.

Knowing tech giants, this would be years away and have a subscription model. I also have no interest in another service to keep me locked into their eco system. Its a nice idea, unfortunately if apple do make it, it'll be for all the wrong reasons.
idk, apple seems pretty averse to subscription models. The only one i can think of that is intergrated into their eco system is iCloud. Other than that they bank on the fact that you buy their expensive product to fund the software development. Like the Micorsoft Office alternatives are all completely free. I doubt that Apple would charge for the use of their own search engine. It's too intergral a feature. But i also don't think they would make it available on non-apple devices. That would be pretty un-apple like.
In the near future, these local llms will be tinyer and much better. For most people this would be enough. Heavy Reasoning Tasks still would be outsourced to bigger models.
@codernoel @user-xx7mh2gm4t Basic search, yes One that parses all of your data (Photos, messages, emails) well is much more resource intensive, and apple would make the argument that doing it in the cloud provides a better experience Apple dont do many things for free Also Apple Intelligence cost is well priced into their devices.
@CrisCheese_ they don't want to compete with Google's customers though-at least on the data-collection revenue front. I think the largest reason Siri was notoriously slow to develop was because they kept scaling back their data collection (especially after they got caught with the 'Hey Siri' voice-parsing privacy issues in Ireland). They would probably approach it similarly to Apple Maps, free-but only on Apple devices.

i hate the spotlight change, i use it for finding files not as a search engine, and it just clutters and confuses all the files i have. Terrible idea, one of those that was never tested for usability just because "It's cool".

im pretty sure u can make a gradient like that easily on photoshop and apps like that ! like just put ur text and change the color to a gradiant and modify it to ur liking

2:54 Did everyone just forget about Spotlight's "Ask Siri" feature? I used it daily when out in public, you just typed whatever you wanted and scrolled to the bottom. Plus it was enabled by default. It was in iOS 13 and iirc Apple nuked it with 15.

I installed Raycast, mapped it to CMD + Space and never looked back... It's everything the Spotlight could/should be.
You can go to the settings of spotlight and pick what you want to search. In the other hand, raycast is indeed the way to go for us powerusers
