I got to see this band a couple times at small club where I tended bar in Southern Cali. They were so real, so wonderful, so emotionally powerful that I found it hard to not cry through their entire set. More please!
Got to hear War play at the FM club, think it was on Lankershim in North Hollywood sometime in the 80s. They were so together you'd think you were listening to their studio recordings. And with Lee Oskar and his harmonica it was an unbelievable experience I will never forget.

One of the finest and most emotional sax solos ever. A great song from one of my top 10 albums of all time. Awesome choice!

This Album was my introduction to War and I fell in love with this band, so glad you are reacting to War as no one ever does except for low rider which isn't their best track in my opinion, just the biggest commercial success

I saw WAR in a tiny New Orleans club with about a hundred people in the late 80's. Heard all this and more. It didn't suck at all
So much good stuff with this band. Cisco Kid, Me and Baby Brother, Why Can't We Be Friends?, one of the best "cruising" music providers of their era. Always had a War tape in the car when I left the house.
WAR is one of my all-time favorites! I saw them last summer, there were 3 original members- they still put out the GarRoves! Next War song - I vote for either All Day Music or Summer. Fun fact about the song Summer; it was released on the first day of summer 1976. Clever planning!

I remember how excited everybody was when WAR came on the radio. This was especially cool when it came on late at night.
Experience and then some. The album track really grooves. For another groovy take on the theme, check out Donny Hathaway "The Ghetto" (1969). Also check out Willie Bobo "Fried Neck Bones And Some Home Fries" (1966) for some roots.
They brought the funk !Definitely a vibe. It reminds me in a different way that YES puts you into a space of closing one’s eyes and dream!

This music pertains more today than the early 70’s, I wish times were like these days, the music was a gift to our generation. This song & their other songs were such hits back then. I wish today was like yesterday ( 70’s )👍🥰

In an interview with Eric Burton from the Animals, who did a good stint with WAR, this song came out after the members of WAR visited the area where Eric grew up in England. They thought they had seen ghettos in the US and then saw his hometown and it was way worse than what they had grown up in. The premise then became there are ghettos everywhere in the world.

Good song by such a real good band. "Cisco Kid" was my first song I heard by them but not my last. Eric Burton did some good songs with them. "Spirit" is one.

One of my favorite albums! Try All Day Music, Slipping into Darkness. And City Country City. Especially if you like Harmonica. Good choice today for sure!

Seen them & the Georgia Satellites in the park outside of the Mississippi Coast Coliseum, tried all day to find a spot to burn a joint, them cops were perfectly positioned.
Spill the Wine 🍷 is a great tune! I often refer to myself as an "over fed, long haired leaping Gnome"! Hair is still long, getting sparse. Not like the Lion's mane I used to have. Thanks for diving into this band biz! These guys our LA based.. San Francisco had "Cold Blood " and Oakland? Tower of Power! Woof! If you really listen, you can tell the difference between North and South California Funk and Soul. Even between Oakland and San Francisco! And you young man...listen!
Love this too. I'd say that you've now heard War's best songs, but there are more good ones. I'd probably go with "Gypsy Man" for your next War song. It's funky, but one that I'd call almost as good but more toward pop soul is "All Day Music".

Oh that sax. Best of the 70s. Another groovy listen is Summer. I love 1972-1974 music hands down. Lucky me had lots of older sibs to turn me on to great music when I was a kid. War is right up there with the best.
