Courses range from an intensive five-day introductory course to a 10-day City & Guilds accreditation course, also enabeling you to achieve an NVQ or you may choose to do a five to ten week City & Guilds Diploma.
Able Skills intensive five-day carpentry course will provide you with all the skills you need to do work around the house -- from erecting a stud wall and fitting a door liner to hanging a door and fitting a lock
We'll teach you the cuts you need for accurate joining and explain and demonstrate how to use all hand and power tools safely. If you have specific project you'd like to undertake our instructors will do their best to provide you with all the knowledge you need.
This course is also offered over two weekends to help you fit it into your working schedule.
And if you find carpentry is something you'd like to make a career of, we can take you through to qualification level with a City & Guilds or Diploma course.
This will give you experience of bigger projects such as fixing floor joists laying flooring and fixing and stabilising trussed rafters.
You'll also be assessed on hanging an internal door, fixing skirting to a timber background and making a casement window.
And as with all Able Skill courses we'll always provide you with that little more training and information you'll need to begin your new career.
The ability to fit your own kitchen is an invaluable skill and Able Skills offers a Kitchen Fitting Course over two weekends that will teach you just that.
But if you're looking to fit kitchens professionally then our five-day kitchen fitting course is the one to go for -- providing you with all the skills you need from layout to completion.
We'll tech you to set out and plan a kitchen and select the right units and read manufacturers' scale drawings to mark, set out and level units to a datum line fix base and wall units to practice scribing and cutting of a 45 or 90 degree mason mitre using a worktop jig and router cut inserts in worktops for sinks and hobs to hang doors and mark, cut and fix cornice pelmets and plinths...
We like to offer as much flexibility as possible and if you start training with us on an intensive introductory course and want to upgrade to a qualification course or Diploma we'll just adjust your time and payment option to whatever suits you best.
For those of you who are time served
Carpenters with no formal qualifications, Able Skills is approved to assess you on a fast track basis to gain that all important NVQ. This is known as Experienced Worker Practical Assessment and it can be possible to achieve the NVQ in 2 days.
