  • Lesson on how to clean gold from black sand concentrates using just simple gold panning technique. This video is part of a series where I teach three techniques of cleaning your gold, #1 Simple panning, #2 the Tap method, and #3 the Backwash. Learning the correct gold panning techniques will help prevent losses when recovering your gold from your concentrates. Recovering fine gold from heavy black sands can be a challenge. follow these gold panning tips and you can recover your gold with almost no losses.
    Stay tuned for the fourth video in this series where I show how to pan gold and use the "Backwash & Tap" method to separate fine gold from black sand.
    This video is produced by Dan Hurd, Prospector, Miner, Teacher and TH-camr, as part of his TH-cam channel based on educational videos about gold mining, gold panning, prospecting, rock hounding, and mineral collecting.

  • @aareminer7600
    @aareminer7600 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A good
    video. In some places the gold is much finer. So fine that jet dry is not sufficient
    to stop gold to float. In this case I use some Isopropanol. The big
    disadvantage is that the fumes are very nasty. So panning can be done outside
    only. In top of that you have keep the solution in a good closed container that
    the isopropanol is not evaporating. Hope that help’s to somebody.

    Great video, looking forward to the rest of the series.
    As someone from the UK that visits Canada occasionally and only done a little panning in the past, I wonder how do you move on your gold once you have enough to pay for further adventures? Are there gold merchants that buy it? Do you need a claim in order to sell it? I heard that you did not need a claim for placer gold, do you need to grade the gold by size first or smelt it into ingots or nuggets etc. I would be interested in a video on that subject as I have not come across any on the tube elsewhere.
    Pete.

      Best way to sell small quantities of gold is online. There are some online buyers or you can go to ebay.

    Hey Danny have you ever done any smelting or Assay testing on of your black sand concentrates to determine what if any precious metals are still trapped within them after panning?

    Hey Dan, once again love your video. Need your expert opinion, if you come across a lot of black sand in an area well there be gold in it or near by?

    very nice demo. would be interesting to see your results if you did again with the same dirt but with the usual technique so we can see how all that gold would be missed. Also it seems that plastic is too slippery and the riffles too rounded, I would think a different material would work better (faster).

    Best tutorial ever on gold panning! Hey Teach, is it OK to say that you're an Artiste when it comes to panning?!? I don't live in a gold bearing area (south western Manitoba) but this sure was educational. And interesting to watch. And fun! Someday I may actually get to do some real gold panning too! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

      You are welcome. If you can pan for yourself, I have LOTS of videos. And I hope some day you can get out and try it for yourself.

    Do you need any special prep or seasoning for this clean up, or this type of pan? Other than soap and water to remove oils?

  • @kurtdiegel7430
    @kurtdiegel7430 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yep, I use a combination of all three methods too. How much does a finishing pan help in this process? I just have always used my 14 inch Garrett pan which works great.

    • @Danhurd
      @Danhurd  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the final video I will be using all three at once in a garrett pan.

    Thanks for the tutorial, Dan. Do you think it would be worth it to lightly scuff up a section of my clean-up pan with coarse grit sandpaper?

    Nice, you just can not do that on the river. Right?
    Since you have after the long day just not a steady hand.

      @@Danhurd I understand that. You also have more (small) nuggets. These are also on the bottom of the pan. You lucky ones.
      In my area, it's just gold flakes. Most of them can also be washed out by the river. However, it is advisable to make the whole thing at home with detergent. Since, as you have shown, some can float. Greetings Tom
