I think he liked you from jump but got the vibe that you wasn’t feeling him that way, so he jumped the gun & put you in the friend zone that first night. By doing that, he could spend time with you & you’d eventually catch feelings. That’s probably why he’d holler at females around you too- hoping you’d get jealous & realize that you wanted to be more than friends. He realized that he fkd up once he took you to the cookout & that his plan was backfiring & that’s why he started acting different. That also explains why in his mind he thought that y’all was “talking” & it was more than what you thought it was, bc to him it was. He felt stupid in the end & couldn’t just admit his feelings & intentions. That’s what I think anyway. A similar situation happened to me & one of my guy friends, except he admitted all of that to me in the end- once the friendship was pretty much ruined bc of how weird/awkward he made it instead of being honest from the beginning. 🤦♀️ dudes always be doing the most.

My fiancé and I had “best friends” of the opposite sex when our relationship first started..they did not respect our relationship (had crushes/crossing lines) and they had to go. 11 years strong now and no regrets, we chose to not have friends of the opposite sex on that level anymore, it works for us especially since we’ve had a negative experience with it. That best friend shit pisses me off now because, it is possible to be friends with the opposite sex but, mfs be on some weird shit and tbh we don’t be just trusting anyone female or male so 🤷🏼♀️
