The Jolly Reiver is my project aiming to preserve and promote the forgotten folklore and history of rural Britain and Ireland. Primarily focusing on folklore and legends, you’ll not find me trying to deconstruct these old stories or trying to rationalise them with science and psychology. Instead I will present them as they were always told by our forebears, and leave the conclusions up to you. Videos are filmed on location to show you exactly where these stories took place. - บันเทิง
Your a rare breed my friend! Keep the folklore alive!!!
Thanks mate!
As a kid in 1962 my mom gave me a book called Ghosts in Irish Houses by James Reynolds that for years was my most treasured book, eclipsed only by Lord of the Rings in 1965.
I love Irish and Scottish folklore. So many interesting stories.

As an Indigenous Native American with some Irish great great grand parent…I’m really interested in all things IRISH. I’ve seen several supernatural events in my lifetime. An unforgivable heart 💔🙏🏽…as a Nun, no wonder she had no rest. As a Christian we are called to pray for the sinner and ask the Holy Spirit to bring conviction. Thanks for sharing…it looks perfectly beautiful. 🙋🏻♀️🇺🇸
🤪 Native fruitcake more like it!
Ireland felt like it was my long lost homeland
I’m Irish, my brother married a native really cool people, really remind me of the Irish
What’s fascinating is that the Irish have several believes That are in line with some indigenous native cultures.
It’s like we’ve all traded beliefs and superstitions throughout the centuries.
Or it could be that a lot of these spiritual beliefs came from a single source. Quite beautiful.

This Irish documentary might make sense of you're indigenous.
the editing on this is excellent! I can tell how much effort you've put into planning this- well done, sir! great story-telling too.
Thanks very much!
The style of the stonework in the garden wall is reminiscent of the prehistoric monolithic walls scattered around the world. Totally unique and beautiful work.
It could also be sister Julia's spirit acting as a guardian angel to counter the evil force
Maybe she hasn't passed.
I was thinking the same thing. With the mass grave burial, there may be several unhappy entities. I wish he’d given us more details about the more sinister theories of how she died and who discovered her body. Did the malevolent spirits kill her and now she acts as the protector of visitors?
The way he is telling a story is really outstanding and relaxing and sooo much beautiful with amazing accent.. 😍👌👏❤️
Thank you!
Bless u auntie
😂
A fascinating story of the Black Nun. Thank you.
Will be watching for more from you.
Glad you enjoyed!
Telling these eerie tales while walking about the achingly beautiful grounds is quite effective ..
As is your deep, resonant and mesmerizing voice .. perfect for speaking of these strange and memorable tales..
This one was amazing .. thank you⚘

Just what I was looking for.
Thank you. Cee from the little haunted cottage in ireland 💚💚💚🍀🍀🍀
Glad you enjoyed!
I challenge anyone to sit in their own school room full of empty desks at night in the dark for one hour ;)
What a wonderful story
There's a very famous story about a nun that appears in the Bell tower of the cathedral of Puebla, Mexico, and jumps from it. Supposedly it is a reenactment of what happened when she fell in love with a French soldier of the army of Napoleon III when he sent his troops to Mexico to establish the ill fated Maximilian against Juarez . The story goes that when they were repatriated he had to went along with his unit back to France and she threw herself from the cathedral in despair.
Quite a story thanks for sharing.
I would leave well alone and Julia to her rest for eternity. Thanks for a good read first time hearing this story
Glad you enjoyed! And yes, I didn’t perform the ritual. I think it’s best to leave things be.
Great video. Beautifully shot and well-told story. Subscribed. Thank you.
Finally TH-cam recommending some good stuff
Very spooky. Thank you! 😊
A very interesting tale - thank you
My pleasure!
I wouldn't suspect Julia of pushing the stone. She may be trying to warn people away.
Good tale. I appreciate the history. And what would Samhain be without a black nun? Thank you for supplying.
When my son and I visited N Ireland we explored an old friary that was in similar condition. The date above the huge mantle said “1659.” We took EVP’s and got a few seconds of chanting (echoey, like a chamber). It sounded like Latin.
😮
You should upload the evp.
Ireland is one island - it’s all one Ireland
@@Donegallass72schannel-bo2jg when I was there it was described by natives as “Northern Ireland” and the “south of Ireland.”
@@susanpage8315 it’s the REPUBLIC
Really enjoyed this video 😊 thx for sharing.... smiles

Great story for this Halloween! Wish I would have gone there when I was in Ballycastle in August 2016
A Mass needs to said there for her restless soul and any evil lurking around, it sure looks creepy.
Excellent video. You're doing a great job. Appreciate all the effort.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed!
We're I live in Wales there's ment to b a ghost monk that haunts the forests it is called monks wood we used to get told stories about is as a kid a few people claim to have seen him
I love this channel❤🏵

Great video . A ghost story, murder, war, no real surprise with respect to the trauma that occurred there.
So very interesting. I am glad I found your channel.
Thanks mate

Another superb and brilliant history educational video my friend 😲😊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 👍👍 These are sad of stories of that brutal times…I‘m sad for the injustice of those days…The nun haunted on their place…to…remind us…she was murdered there 😔 I would visit there…and walk 7 times around her gravestone…and...7 times back…and….put my hand through it….to…make peace and rest…for…Julia 😓😔
Thanks for watching as always mate
We toured this Fiery in 2012 , I enjoyed it the area . I Found it quite peaceful and the surroundings beautiful.
This is a fascinating story. Thank you for all your efforts.
In my experience of these strange things you must respect the souls that are lost and be kindly to them 😢❤
Brilliant, brilliant! Scary ! Something out there! I love this channel! Keep it coming! 😊
Thank you! Appreciate you watching!
Very nice narrator
I just discovered your channel mate. Great work on this video. Looking forward to going to your back log. 👍🏻
Cheers fella, hope you enjoy!
Well told excellent story.
Nicely done. Just sp00ky enough.
Thank you :-)
Wonderful as always. Thank you!
Glad I stumbled onto your channel. Excellent prresentation!
I really enjoy this thank you ❤❤❤
Great story. Great job.
Dear Jolly Reiver & Friends,
This was a frightening story and I could almost feel how cold and unwelcoming the place is. Even from across the Atlantic.
The part about large stones just popping out of place would prompt me to bring a friend along (the buddy system), or at least make arrangements for someone to come looking for you if you’re not back before dark. Can’t be too careful. Here in the States, people go missing in the forest and national parks every year. Even seasoned outdoorsmen and ex military folks.
We all love your videos and I wish you safe travels, as always!
Sincerely,
J. S. B.
Aye the states is a big place! I’d love to go camping in Appalachia but I’d never do that alone Aha. Glad you enjoyed mate!
@@TheJollyReiver we've got big bears, Bob cats & snakes here in Appalachian Mts & 👻, and it's a beautiful place as long as you're careful.
@@anidiquaojala1804 Quite a bit more intimidating than our… badgers
@@TheJollyReiverwhen I visited N Ireland I asked if there were any animals that were dangerous (we walked through woods). The only “scary” animals were the badgers. 😂
@@TheJollyReiveryour badgers are so sweet! Our American badgers are not near so civilized.
Awesome loved this
Proud of the Catholic martyrs and the highlanders for staying loyal to the true faith of Christ.
sadly in Ireland /Scotland there are many haunted places and stores cause evil things happen to these people
Maybe the spirit of Julia’s sister pushed the rock that killed her, and the one that nearly killed the brothers.
I just now found your channel and I loved this story. It was so wonderfully told. I will have to go back and listen to all the previous videos.
Glad to hear you enjoyed!
Another great tale. But what we all want to know is, did you do the ritual aroung the stone marker and see her? Thank you for another excellent video.
Glad you enjoyed! And I didn’t Aha. Didn’t feel right to for some reason.
🖤Loved this

Happy Halloween.
a stone could fall from any part of any castle at any given time, I hate it when heritage block entire areas for future people who will never be able to visit in their life.
Ooohhhhhh. Creepy! Beautiful, but creepy. As a yank I am highly envious of my European kin who have ruins in their back yards. I think you're right about the negative energy being there after so much has happened.
Thank you for a wonderful video!
Thanks for your kind comment, I’m glad you enjoyed!
(Republic of Ireland full of ghost very true my own personal experience as I grow up in republic of Ireland)
Looks like nothing not even a haunting will stop a nice game of golf. Love the story though! Thanks for sharing
My pleasure!
amazing channel love these places very mysterious and beautiful but can sombody tell me is this places in england or Scotland or Ireland
Glad you enjoy! This particular story is in County Antrim in Northern Ireland.
Nice sweater. Very handsome!
Another wonderful video and have a happy Halloween 👻🎃
Thank you!
You are welcome so what is the next video that you are planning on coming out with
@@owenshale8719 It’s a video about the death of Osian, Ireland’s greatest bard. I found his grave in the hills of Antrim :-)
That's definitely a video I will watch I would enjoy visiting the place you have been in your videos
@owenshale8719 You should!
Have you heard the story of the devil stone in crook co Durham
This was genuinely creepy. Good work.
Cheers mate

First time seeing your channel; great content! Well presented. I'm originally from Antrim so it's interesting to see the connections-though I grew up in England and now live in Scotland. Ghost stories have always fasinated me. I probably visited here as a child though that'd be many moons ago. Great video! Do you travel all over UK? I've subscribed :)
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed! I don’t go all over the UK but I try to get around as much as I can. Most videos are in Northumberland :-)
Wonder why anyone has not made any feature film on this story till now .
When I was a young woman, I and my best friend were among the first to go to Corrymela, just up the road from Bonamargy. My friend was sure she saw a ghostly nun.
Maybe Julia is trying to show people where the treasure is or warning people it's not safe there due to the loose stones? The place does look eerie there's probably many spirits there. Thanks for the vid. Very interesting as usual.👍🏻😊
Same as my ghost , I walked out of a workshop and passed thru a door and then I heard wham ! ! ! The ghost pushed a tire off the top of a stack of tires in the auto shop , I turned around and no-one was in there ! weird ! And other physical incidents !
Strange very !
We are called to love our enemies. ❤
Sometimes souls in purgatory are allowed to reveal how they died so people pray for them
However often when they do this we misinterpret the event as something sinister because of how scary is is
👍
:-)
God in his mercy rest her soul and make a plce beside him in paradice for her and for those poor souls may our lady Mary mother of God bring eternal peace to that place through jesus christ our Lord Amen God bless you and all you love and all who visit your facinating page Father Charles Anderson
Wow,a stone fell from an old stone wall
Move over, Valak.
Indeed!
🙏🏻😞
I can understand how you truly believe in the stories and not just tell them by the fact that you didn't try the ritual.
In my place there was an abandoned friary (now it's a restaurant) who was abandoned in th 1600s and stayed so until a few decades ago and the people who went to visit it said that if you throw a rock inside the walls, something throws the rock back and in the church there is a fresco of Holy Mary that watched from a particular angle looks the Devil.
I don't understand everything about the spirit world and don't want to but my ancestors fought in the American Civil War especially Gettysburg Pennsylvania where there were thousands of deaths and yes daily someone reports weird phenomenon like phantom soldiers to phantom music to intelligent hauntings with people talking to children in the woods all dirty and unkempt to soldiers asking for someone to help them it's crazy hundreds of stories all similar but be truth to it. I have witnessed confederate soldiers at Devils Den I walked into a haunting in progress which was happening to someone else. Funny accidentally walking into someone's else's haunting and already in progress like interrupting a conversation between two people that's hilarious.
I’d love to visit. I love the civil war history!
My ex’s great-grandfather fought at Gettysburg in the Wheatfield. He was a Confederate and survived, but was taken captive by the Yankees.
@@TheJollyReiveryou would love the Gettysburg battlefield. It feels haunted.
The massacre of the northern Ireland mcdonald family now history and the black nun hunting the Old estates and it's Land creepy story I've heard Different Tell's of the black nun even the horror movie Got it all wrong thank you for the Actual story❤.
Glad you enjoyed!
Sister Julia had a strange notion regarding God and forgiveness. She was surprised He forgave her sister?
