How to make sure that the eggs are going along well. Turn the flashlight on your phone on and put it up to the egg or use a small flashlight and put it up to the egg. You'll then see the yolk do this once every day. Once you start seeing veins pop out you know everything is going along smoothly. After about maybe a week depending on what you're raising a duck or chicken you will start to see a black dot Hence that is the chick forming. If you don't see anything after a week and maybe because your egg is not fertilized. For those who haven't watched the full video skip to 3:13 to see an example
Some chicks apparently also drown in the shell if the humidity is too high and not enough fluid evaporates. Dry incubation may help with certain types of eggs prone to that
I was hatching eggs and I always let the ones that didn't hatch I give them extra 3 days or more.. I had one egg that hatched 5 days late no sign of life until that morning and it out of know where just started moving none stop from 8am to 5pm when it fully hatched.. that was a learning experience for me..
Thank you for this video, wondering why some of my eggs haven't hatched, humidity perhaps but could see movement in 2. I've read that Maran egg shells are so hard it's difficult for the chick to pip (candling is difficult too because they're so dark) and sometimes they need a little help to hatch🌼🐤
Thanks for the information. I am on day 22 in the incubator and nothing has hatched. I am looking for different reasons as to why that could happen. This is my first attempt at hatching in the incubator.
Did you candle during incubation and did it look like they were developing? What kind of incubator. They could still hatch if your temps were off. Feel free to add some info and I can try to help you troubleshoot.
The temp should be around 99.5 degrees F. You don’t want to move much in either directions. Long term variations will affect hatch time and could cause defects .
*They look like they developed up to hatching. Weird. I would suspect temp and humidity in the incubator, but if the others hatched fine that's probably not it. They might have just been too weak to pip. I think it could be a nutrition issue with that hen.*
I've tried eggs from my own flock and other flocks. Eggs are fully developing but not hatching. This is depressing me. I've tried 4 different times (probably 40 eggs) and only one chick has actually hatched! At least half of them were FULLY developed when I cracked them open at the end. I've tried multiple different humidity settings. The temp is at 37.5 Celsius, and I have extra hydrometer / thermometer in there. I'm about to give up.
What kind of incubator are you using. There are hatching troubleshooters if you do an internet search. Maybe you could find something out. There has to be something. The eggs are being turned, right?
I just realized the eggs I had where sitting at 90 degrees, the thermometer on the incubator was failing. I fixed it, and its chilling at 99.5 but it was 7 days at 90 degrees, the eggs look the same as when i got them while candling. You guys think i should get new eggs or see what these do?
I know I’m 2 years late😅 but maran chickens have thick shells and a lot of the time they don’t hatch because of that or they need some help getting out so that could be the problem
That is pretty low, but they may still hatch on a slower schedule. If they’re still alive then let them go and see. I hope you get some to hatch! Keep us posted!!
@@ChickenHues yes every time I've candle them to clear it out their in their moving around so I'm going to let it go for awhile longer..I'm a tad concerned my air pocket isn't quite as big as it should be but it's u clear what day they might be I'm guessing 18ish..it's a brinsea mini advance so it was consistent and automatic so...guess I will update...
I'm assuming that's celsius, right? How long were they at that temp? If it wasn't very long (hour or two) then it's probably ok. I'd go ahead and continue incubating them and candle them around 5-7 days and see if they're developing. Let us know!
Hey, it's been almost 2 weeks since I put some eggs in the incubator, I candled them when they were 7 days and a half was bloody, it's been a pain in the neck keeping the temperature steady, I'm like in prison, I can't go out by of these eggs.☹! anyways, wish me luck guys.
Not only humidity there are some other problem also .I increase humidity upto 85 keeping always above 70 .50/50 result (fertility out of). temperature also between 37.4 and 37.7. i don't know what is the real problem.i rotate egg 1 time per day
Every thing that I have seen say to rotate them every 8 hr or more. Set your schedule to accommodate you but, the must be turned so the embryo does not stick to the inside of shell. The day you put them in incubator is not day #1 the next day is. Do not rotate after18. Hope this helps.
My one full batch of egg didn't hatch, and when i do candling...all eggs are like the one u shown first....fully developed with air sack.... I checked the temperature...no problem.... Don't know what happend😞
Sometimes they hatch a little late. How many days was it? There are some hatching troubleshooters online that can give some direction as to what might have happened.
I have problems with my BCM also. Not only with hatching, but crippled and blind chicks. So I get different roosters or hens and try different mating's. I also think one hatch I tried, but egg turner wasn't moving. I always seem to have a lower hatch rate with them. My Americauna and leghorns have a higher rate, Hard to know just how close the relationship is with the hens and roosters. I have gotten eggs in several places, but they always say Greenfire and one other name. The hatch I am doing now I have had a temp spike and don't know if it was the thermometer reading wrong. Put in new battery and so far no more spikes. Will do first candle tomorrow to see. May have to toss the whole load and start again. So it becomes difficult when that happens. Anyway did you do another hatch? How did it turn out? Will be checking out your other videos and maybe you will answer the question. Great video thanks.
I hatched more later in the season and they did great. It’s in a video somewhere but I’m not sure where. Lol. It was a broody hatch, though. I still don’t know what the problem was with them in this video, but they tend to be tricky in general in my experience. I hope your current batch does ok for you! Let me know! 😀
@@ChickenHues hello. If I may ask a question, is there any other way to hatch my eggs without an incubator or a brooding chicken? In a rural area, no generator, no chicken.
Thanks for the video. Very informative! I’m going to try to have some friends bring about 3 dozen fertilized eggs over to Liberia in a couple months, along with an incubator. I’m hoping it goes well!
hello there , i am a bit confused about temperature and humidity to my incubator . when I bought it they sad it must be 37.8 °Celsius and the humidity from 60 to 65 % the first 2 weeks then the 18th day about 85% to 90% . can you please tell me if the procedure was right because I failed with almost 8o % of my eggs . Sorry for my English . thank u for your time
For chicken eggs the temp Should be 99.5 F. The humidity should be around 40-50 for the first 18 days and 65-70 during hatch. Too high at the end can cause the chicks to drown in the shell, and 80% is pretty high. Although, that may not have been a factor. I hope that helps! 😀
I had ALOT of trouble hatching Ayam Cemani’s, wow they just die during incubation, I check everyday too. And no don’t wait a couple of days after internal pips they WILL die.
This can be the lack of oxygen. Incubator should have good ventilation to take in oxygen and throw out carbon dioxide. As embryo grows they need more oxygen to breath. Lack of oxygen will suffocate them before hatch. Bad ventilation is also cause of less hatching percent.
They can be THE friendliest, sweetest birds - especially when you raise just a few. I have always struggled on butcher day when I raised a small group. These 12 will be a test...I'm going to try really hard not to notice individuals in this group. :(
The eggs are fertile but died half way or not hatch on the hatching day that mean the chicks are drowning. Too high humidity cause the chicks drowning and died. The humidity need to be 20%-35% during hatching process to keep the chicks not drown. You should try dry hatch without add water through the process to see what is going on.
I’ve done dry hatching and had similar results, although I know lots of people do great with it. Now that I keep water in the pan I have better hatch rates. That can depend on where someone lived and the room the incubator is in, too. Thanks for the comment! Humidity is a huge factor!

Wow! That is good to know!
Marrans need a much higher humidity during lockdown as their shell is much ticker so it is harder for them to break through
Major problem in chicken eggs hatching is system of creating humidity along the incubation period an control of humidity.
Thanks for sharing what happens during a hatch

I'm thinking the same as you. I have more going in this week and am hoping they do much better! We'll see!
I accidentally shook my eggs during day 10, 😬😬 are they going to die.
Please reply
Why if tramulous air cell increases, hatchability of egg decrease?? Plz reply😕
I’m not sure I understand the question. The air cell size increases as incubation progresses.

Is it ok to use cardboard egg cartons while incubating
I do sometimes. I remove the top and sometimes put a few hole in the egg sections for ventilation .
My incubator was set to low..95.1 not 99.5 passed 21 days now.. currently 99.5 day 23 and all candle alive. Any tips?

What's the best chicken egg incubator that you would recommend?
I really don’t have enough experience to recommend one. Hopefully someone can jump in and recommend one for you.

what causes the shell had a gum like fluid what can do
I’d guess it’s rotten. Can you candle it and see if it is developing.
What should be the humidity in incubator????
I run around 30-40 days 1-18 and then bump it up to 65-70 on the last 3 days.
