I did not expect to see Tera Shogun today. I‘m sorry old fellow but I’ll probably forget about you as soon as this video ends. The ambience does help you a lot though, I’ll give you that. And congratulations! Your officially a flagship now!
One map I have unfortunately never played on, but I hear a lot of love for. Those reflections in the water floor in some places are pretty, and those misty areas are as well. Makes me kind of wish for some kind of misty area in Wilds.
I would kill for a swamp type map in Wilds, simply because the biome was kind of done dirty for so long. Practically none of hte monsters really fit in or, at least, don't feel like they are at home there. Him mentioning chameleos made me think for a second but this map was before he existed so he doesn't help it. Their statements of making the maps first and then creatures to fit them, while interesting...this map kind of proves that they didn't always look at it like that.
I wouldn't mind seeing this map remade in a modern game. Think it could make for a good multi level map with a larger tunnel network connecting the different caves
Heeey! I called it! LET'S GO! I agree with everything you've said about the Old Swamp. I wish the 4th Gen Marshlands would've brought the fog back for the Najarala. In MH4, his intro cutscene depicts him to be trying to eat the player Hunter in a space where the fog creates low visibility. He roars and the fog goes away, which looks cool, but IT NEVER COMES BACK. That fight would feel really different if it was actually like the cutscene.
YEAAAHHH OLD SWAMP GOT IN!!!!! Uhh... not... the best of placements... but YEAAAHHH OLD SWAMP GOT IN!!!!! The area 1 ambience, as well as almost all the other ambiences are honestly the best part about MH1's maps (not just "music" ambience, even just the sound effects) and to this day I find the 1st gen areas the best in the series in the atmosphere department (probably not that good to fight in but whatever). I probably love all the 1st gen maps because I'm a fan of "gloomy" and "monotone" envinronments. The MHGen Marshlands, while still really good with an iconic cave ambience, will never beat the OG and I'm saying this while never actually experiencing the Old Swamp myself. I find myself regularly listening to the Old Swamp's battle theme too! It actually is the TH-cam video I listened the most in my 2024 TH-cam Recap! Coral Highlands are gorgeous, Jurassic Frontier's Area 10 is still the best envinronment in fiction, Scarlet Forest is probably in my top 3 already, but Old Swamp remains peak. The Citadel having a purple mist is the best thing ever.
Sadly I vever playd MH game with this map but god damn. This atmosphere is sooo good . The artstyle is amaizing. Why we dont ha e something similar in Wilds ...
I do really enjoy the ambience of the gen 1 maps. The first time I played GU (which looks like a downgrade for the Old Swamp) I was actually quite spooked by the ambient music in the caves, being used to the lack of music when not in combat. Similar thing happened when I first entered the deep forest zones in the Forest and Hills. I’m really glad that I found some extended recordings on TH-cam, they’re great pieces!
An older map so I haven’t experienced it personally. The Old Swamp is pretty neat. It’s a shame GUs remake is a downgrade looks wise, the fog is really cool.
Ah keeping the third gen maps for last. The old swamp has some problems whit thr communication of the zone transition, but I am absolutely married to the atmosphere. I love swamps (Who wherent used to house hillbillies)
Old swamp, that's an odd choice. This being in the first game does not save it. I mean sure, some zones have great atmosphere but the ecologically is... Monsters are just plopped here because they threw at a dart board for the last map and landed on swamp. None of the monsters are swamp monsters, not a single one. None of them feel adapted for this environment in the slightest. At most, the um temperature is in their ranges so like some basarios lore of it being too young to take the heat in the nearby volcano will just be there until it's old enough to venture to the volcano. This lore is a bit odd, since the map has no hot zones but instead had cold ones so... Swamps are the Monster Hunter team's biggest weakness. We only really have 2 monsters, both in 5th gen, that kind of fit a swamp and neither of them are in one... Flooded forest is another kind of map entirely. Those are almodron and "we couldn't do agnaktor so we gave you this fish from Frontier and made it worse" mud addition. This is why I'm begging for them to have a swamp in Wilds' expansion or in the next portable game, to fix this travesty. Give us monsters that actually are at home in a swamp, with cool ecology. The difference is that citadel has monsters that don't fit in, sure, but the swamp doesn't have any that actually suit it. The devs have said that they make the maps first and then the monsters to fit into them, this is an example that strongly suggests that this was not always the case.
The atmosphere of this map alone is top of the line. Also unrelated but this is the first time I've ever seen a Terra Shogun in motion
This map's got fantastic personality

First time I ever fought him too
Wait, Terra Shogun is a flagship? Of what?

Really solid map.

Never played on this map but I always heard good things about it. I wouldn't mind it returning and getting a glow up.
It's pretty great even beyond the aesthetics
That Gypceros fight looked miserable
That's Gypceros in general
Oh yes, the Flag and the Ship. All in one.

The swamp maps really captures the "nature's creepiness" greatly and this one shows it at its peak
Wow, I didn't know that piece of music, which worked so well in RE4, was actually from Monster Hunter! Really cool stuff.

That's the marshlands. The old swamp hasn't returned since FU.
The Marshlands is generally a step down from the Old Swamp for sure
Atp Connor should just do a MonHun tierlist every holiday LOL

Is there a reason for why there’s ice caves in either the Marshlands or the Old Swamp?
Flagships?

Oh nah i HATE this map
