Welcome to America, where you get diabetes after a holiday meal! Some people take it a bit far with the sweetness. Thanks for keeping me company as I stitch Black'd Skie by The Primitive Needle. I've never stitched a Rosewood Manor but now I may need to find one; Blue Rhapsody is beautiful. I am not a full coverage stitcher, but I admire yours so much. Fingers crossed your turmeric is a success! Lots of stuff going on for you but it will be worth it!

It does sound a little over the top for sugar. We always had some non-sweetened drinks, and vegetables, but yes we did have sweet potato casserole- but not with so much sugar. Green bean casserole with cream of mushroom soup. But then lots of sweet desserts. Pumpkin and pecan pie. Sometimes apple pie. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Holly. It seems like you have a very busy life. I always thought arenas were enclosed but what do I know 😂. Your business plans are moving along nicely. There is so much to do when you are a busy owner as you basically work all the time even when you are not physically working. Loved your Flosstube. I went straight down the rabbit hole with the Union Jack flag that I’m in the process of kitting it up. Check the fabric size against a calculator as I don’t think the sizes they give are correct. It maybe just me. Anyways can’t wait to start the flag even though I had no plans for new starts this year. That’s the way it goes. All good fun. Tricia

Hi lovely. Happy New Year! Arenas are sometimes enclosed but not always. In fact the majority are not because of the cost of enclosing them, so the middle base if getting them covered (again very expensive). I have plans to build a covered, but that's in the 5 year plan.
The Union Jack is lovely isn't it. And don't worry, I always do my own calculations as I have been burned by fabric sizes being wrong before. I use the yarn tree cross stitch calculator, and added 5 inches for border as suggested. I'm still waiting for my fabric and thread but I'm sure it won't be long.
I have just launched my Turmeric business. Today it goes Live, so that's exciting and nerve racking at the same time! 🥰

@@hollythecrossstitchaddict83 Anything and everything to do with horses is very expensive. I miss going riding to a pub, have lunch and then back to the stables. Don’t construe that as I can ride because I can’t 😊. I have been burned myself several times with wrong size fabric which is why I wanted to give you a heads up just in case. I use XStitch plus. You can inventory everything XStitch. Good luck with the Turmeric launch. It may take time to build so be patent. I’m sure it will go well.

Hi Holly, Happy New Year. Love the thread storage much better. Henry VIII is coming along nicely. Christmas dinner Turkey, ham, Roast spuds, carrots, stuffing, parsnip, gravy, mashed spuds, and cranberry. Xmas pudding and custard. Day after leg of lamb lol. I don't really like too much of the USA food one has to be careful about what you eat. When I stayed with my sister she knew what I would eat so it was alright. Love the label really pops out I am sure the horses will love it. The field is coming along nicely It's better to get all the extra done besides it will last a long time. Hi Holly, you made me laugh when you were talking about how sweet the dishes were. Christmas dinners are not normally like that. You live in the South, so the meals are different. I live up north in New England. New Hampshire to be exact. Christmas dinners are more traditional up north. Turkey and ham, potatoes, vegetables, breads and salad. In our home we have cheesecake for dessert. If you ever have the opportunity to visit New England, come and visit New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.

Hi, Holly. Good to see you again. Happy New Year. Lovely WIPs. I smiled when you shared your holiday meal experience. Please remember that many of us in the U.S. hail from countries across the globe. Our meals are often very diverse based on our countries of origin as well as where we hail from within the U.S. My own family gatherings (we are French Caribbean, American, English and Italian) are often a “United Nations” fare usually consisting of one or two types of fowl, various seafood and a ham (without honey/sugar glazing) accompanied by a plethora of veggies - all savory. Sweets are reserved for yummy desserts. Hopefully, you will be in the U.S. for many years successfully running your business and experiencing more holiday/social gatherings which will allow you to experience our many regional and international cuisines.

Happy Holidays! I think Christmas dinner in the US is different from family to family. My mom was Scottish so my Christmas dinners growing up were very different from all my friends. My mom would make turkey, mashed potatoes(occasionally colcannon), yorkshire puddings and Kilted soldiers which were bacon wrapped sausages. We usually had roasted carrots and parsnips too. In a nod to my American father she made apple pie for dessert but she would also make Dundee Cake usually served with a small glass of Drambuie (for the adults only). We also had a tradition on New Years Eve that she would send someone outside about 10 minutes before New Years so they could be the "First-Foot".

Hi Holly - happy New Year! Our Christmas Dinner this year was Prime rib and scalloped potatoes with roast asparagus wrapped in bacon. Not sugar laden anything. Cheesecake, pumpkin pie or chocolate cream pie etc for dessert. In America it's pretty much what your family traditions are. We always had turkey and roasted veg with mashed, etc. it was a quiet season here too. I'm glad you had people to spend it with. ❤

Hi Holly, Happy New Year. I had the same experience as you everything is so sweet and even worse just when you think it's all sugar loaded it's not it's high fructose corn syrup. Check your labels when you go shopping. When you don't grow up eating that stuff foreigners can become allergic as I found out the hard way. Some countries don't allow high fructose corn syrup at all to be used as it is really bad for you. The amount of preservatives is crazy, bread usually lasts for a few days before it goes moldy if its healthy, not there it lasts up to 1 to 2 weeks or more. As you know health care is not the best either so be careful with what you eat to save yourself extra.

Happy New Year. Lovely progress on your projects. Like in other countries, holiday cooking can be regional . I grew up in New York - Long Island - our traditional meal was a roast goose done on a spit. Along with that were about 4 vegetables, potatoes, rice, creamed onions and dessert was whatever baked good my mom baked. In the last 30 years or so, we switched it up -kids grew up and moved on, dad passed, lives changed. So our new tradition is prime rib at my house - on Eastern Long Island, with lots of roasted veggies (potatoes, butternut squash, kale, beets) from my garden, home made rolls. Dessert could be cookies along with cheesecake, pies -whatever strikes my fancy -, homemade eggnog and LOTS of wine! I love to cook and love holiday cooking! Like you, I do not like that much sugar on my dinner and I do not drink soda so I can identify and you handled it well and with respect. We have ham on New Years and I do that with a brown sugar/maple syrup glaze - not coated on but just enough to keep it moist. Happy New Year and happy stitching. Great progress on your arena!!

All that sugar in not all American meals. As an Italian American, there is no sugar in the food - especially on holidays. Roast pork or beef, lots of vegetables, and before the meat dish, there is pasta. On Christmas Eve there is the feast of the 7 fishes. THAT is amazing. And wine, lots of wine:)

I find that as soon as I start a 30 day stitchy related challenge sometimes I tend to see the stitching as more of a chore. This is meant to be an enjoyable hobby, I couldn't cope with the pressure of wip go boards telling me what and how many stitches are needed. Why don't you just choose a project and put it next to your stitching space for the time being, take the pressure off, and go off plan for a bit.
