One would think a short in the LED circuit would cause high current, not an open. You take me back to my days in the industry, when I would lay awake at night trying to figure this stuff out. Most people would have recycled this set. I am glad you work on them for the educational value.
I do like seeing a professional going round in circles makes me feel I'm not so useless after all. I always say I like a challenge but when the silicon gods send me one I'm pulling my hair out repeating the line careful what you wish for. Thanks for sharing your journey and getting there in the end , I know the feeling of a massive sense of achievement
Psst...those amazing TH-cam channels where repair folks seem to be super efficient and never or rarely show their very common failures? It's on purpose. Name one and I'll show you a person that screws up, fails and gets stuck DAILY. It's part of the business. Of those that have stores, read their reviews. Tons of stories of customers getting back bad items, multiple returns, no-fix, fixed problem returned with a new problem they caused with the fix of the originally damaged area, etc. Never forget that. I like this channel as they often show the frustrations of repair.
Well done Michael, that was a real headache to do, thanks for the video. I had something similar on a Samsung backlit where the led strips are held under metal tabs, one of the tabs had scratched the white solder mask and was being grounded 😊
I would say that set would cause you to pull your hair out but you are like me and do not have a lot of hair to pull. I am glad you are a patient person.

Typical Sony job ! I try to avoid repairing Sony's if I can, though if backlight failure is a common problem with this particular model I might give one a go if one comes my way. !

That was more painful than it should have. What was that bracket/frame at the end around the tv you showed towards of end of video?
