I think the pivotal scene in the movie is where young Charlie goes to the library and sees the newspaper report.
That`s where her suspicions become starker. The movie changes from that point onwards. Great review of a great film.

Hitchcock was a genius. I saw Shadow when I was much younger and it haunted me all my life. Now, thanks to TH-cam I can watch it anytime I want. Thanks for all the info.

The scene in the bar must have inspired Anthony Hopkins because its his Hannibal Lecter.

Dimitri Tomkin wrote the musical score for many movies, including Friendly Persuasion.

He forgot to say that the owners of the house on Macdonald avenue were so pleased they repainted and the crew had to 'muss it up' a little to look lived in.

    Great video.
Hume Cronyn was in Lifeboat before this. So it wouldn’t be his debut.

Someone else mentioned Anthony Hopkins, and I concur, I’ve ALWAYS thought that Hopkins modified his speech pattern and infliction for Silence of the Lambs, after Cotton in the dinner scene when he speaks and looks over at Charlie. Chilling.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It doesn’t get the same acclaim and attention as movies like North By Northwest, Vertigo, Rear Window, or Psycho, but it’s easily up there with his greatest works. Tiomkin’s score is utterly brilliant, too.

just saw it. must be my ignorance of films from that time, but I found it to be ok, at the best. cannot see where all the praize comes from 8l
the overacting was dreadful, dialogues stiff. uncle Charlie was the highlight, really hoped it will work for him somehow ... rest of the family (+ the librarian, traffic policeman and especially father´s creepy friend) was annoying to the point I was hoping he would be somehow forced to murder them all, children included. it would work more if the movie was labeled as a comedy
any idea which was Hitchcock´s least favourite movie?.. really need to compare them 8l
