The 80s (& 90s) were the best years to be a kid/grow up. The best music, movies, sitcoms …there was enough technology to be exciting but still have human interaction. Things were hopeful. And the malls. I miss the malls so much. And the cheesy horror films- ‘Phantom of the Mall’ and ‘Lisa’ were my favorites
It was June 1986 and this song was playing...it was Monday, perhaps, and the lover of that time broke up with me, it hurt me a lot, I was 20 years old, and it unleashed feelings that I didn't know, wherever this one I hope it goes well.

Another great piece of songwriting by Prince Rogers Nelson, who was humble and wise enough to realize the song didn't suite his style and gave it to a band that could do something great with it.
This reached #2 on The Top 100. #1, at the same time was a song called 'Kiss', which was also written by Prince. The man was on another level with regard to an ability to write songs in different genres and still get them to go into the stratosphere !
Leave it to Prince to write the perfect pop tune. Take a subject: running late for work, and mix it with hints of love and youth, add the hook of a lifetime and compose a light, fun, poppy melody that gets everyone singing the catchy track and you've written the perfect pop song. Thank you Bangles for bringing this song to life, and thank you BJ Armstrong for the great covid cover!

@@m2k530 Yeah man, I also want to be born in the 1930s so that I can die in WWII and, if I survive, end up living in an era of war and probably get sent to Vietnam when I get older.
I see this video and I'm suddenly 15 years old again and it's 1986. Crushed on each member of the band. Never gets old and never ceases to cheer me up.
This is the smash hit that pretty much started it all for the "BANGLES"back in the early days of MTV and now that the "GOGOS" were recently induced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame it is definitely time for this band to be included... They certainly deserve it...🎤🎸🎹🥁👏👏👏
Doylemob-please note of the way trends seem to stretch. They seem to play out every 20 years. Maybe that is why they look fashionable now. ?Also 80's entertainment (because of MTV/VH1 was absolutely incredible) but 'only' the entertainment. And if cable TV was available to you. Economics, poverty, government spending, disease, drugs were all at levels that destroyed generations of people that our government did nothing about. You barely hear about AIDS now but, it and the cold war haunted our every step.
In 2003, the Bangles became my guilty pleasure. I was only 19 then. I'd seen pictures of them in the 80's and I thought they were very beautiful women. I finally worked up the courage to buy their Greatest Hits CD and I liked it. I was too afraid my dad and sister would give me a hard time about me liking the Bangles, but they didn't. They were perfectly okay with it. For a while, I couldn't hear their songs without them getting stuck in my head.
There's another level to Prince's genius: Not only is the verse melody of "Manic Monday" identical to "1999", but if you listen to the choral keyboard riff from "1999", it is the same melody as the choral harmony of The Mamas & Papas "Monday, Monday". FYI Prince plays all instruments on this -- The Bangles just augmented & overlaid their own bass, guitar, drums, & vocals over Prince's original tracks. You can still hear Brenda & Jill's background vocals from the Apollonia 6 version.

Not only did Prince write the lyrics to this song... He also played piano and synthesizer! So besides the voice, it's all Prince! What a genius he was!💯
Did they ever sing live or were they a studio band? Every live performance i have seen of theirs their vocals sound EXACTLY like on the album and lets face it no matter what they do it will never sound exactly like on the album which is mastered and mixed.
The Bangles, despite their dreamboat looks, were a serious band that busted their asses for years before achieving success. Great, hard-working musicians.
This song was so controversial when it came out!! The Catholics were freaking out, the white evangelical Christians were freaking out because of the black Jesus. It was glorious!
We sing these one with mine boyfriend each evening Sunday was funday . Happy days love you Barry. Never forget you are the true love ❤️ of mine life ..
I have a lot to say about this song. My dad played it constantly when I was a kid. (I’m a millennial born in the early 90’s). I remember laying in bed watching my mom get ready for work and feeling like this song was about her. It seemed so distant at the time and I didn’t know what a lot of the words meant. Here I am at 26 with a full time job and this is basically a weekly feeling lol. To this day I really don’t think I’ve heard this song anywhere else other than coming out of the speakers of my Dad’s grand prix😂 Anyways, I don’t usually post on TH-cam or anywhere really but take care friends glad to see y’all enjoying these classic bangers. God bless :)
It wasn't just the fact he wrote the song, but that he just gave it away, and also had a talent for knowing who would be best at playing it. Every last bit of the song fit the Bangles perfectly
The fact that most saw Susanna Hoffs as the 'lead singer' is what helped to wedge the group apart. But you're right...she did make the biggest impression about the group. Hoffs had the voice and the looks.
I'll never forget a group of us creating a dance routine to this song for our middle school talent show. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. So much fun!!! 80s music forever ❤❤

Facts!
For me it's 90's punk and alternative chicks, but to each there own! Susanna Hoffs' beauty just transcends time, that's all!
Amen
This is the smash hit that pretty much started it all for the "BANGLES"back in the early days of MTV and now that the "GOGOS" were recently induced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame it is definitely time for this band to be included... They certainly deserve it...🎤🎸🎹🥁👏👏👏

Idk why, but as an 2000 kid, 80s female singers look like the coolest thing ever
80s kid here yes they were.
80s kid here the 80s were the best
Because they were naturally beautiful. Before botox, fillers and all the crazy crap that young people do now to their faces.
Yes they were, big hair, a lot of makeup, which they didn’t need it, they r Angels, all of them

AliG1964 Have you seen her recently ..... Oh my god .... Just as beautiful but in a more sophisticated way... She's aged gloriously.
Definitely can tell Prince's work on this one. The verses melody and phrasing is just *too* similar to "1999"
There's another level to Prince's genius: Not only is the verse melody of "Manic Monday" identical to "1999", but if you listen to the choral keyboard riff from "1999", it is the same melody as the choral harmony of The Mamas & Papas "Monday, Monday". FYI Prince plays all instruments on this -- The Bangles just augmented & overlaid their own bass, guitar, drums, & vocals over Prince's original tracks. You can still hear Brenda & Jill's background vocals from the Apollonia 6 version.
He loved Susanna so very much...to give a song of this quality was a major deal for Prince.
Prince wrote this song for them. RIP.

Lyrics
Six o'clock already
I was just in the middle of a dream
I was kissin' Valentino
By a crystal-blue, Italian stream
But I can't be late
'Cause then I guess I just won't get paid
These are the days
When you wish your bed was already made
It's just another manic Monday (Woah, woah)
I wish it was Sunday (Woah, woah)
'Cause that's my fun day (Woah, woah, woah, woah)
My I don't have to run day (Woah, woah)
It's just another manic Monday
Have to catch an early train
Got to be to work by nine
And if I had an aeroplane
I still couldn't make it on time
'Cause it takes me so long (Oh, oh)
Just to figure out what I'm gonna wear
Blame it on the train
But the boss is already there
It's just another manic Monday (Woah, woah)
I wish it was Sunday (Woah, woah)
'Cause that's my fun day (Woah, woah, woah, woah)
My I don't have to run day (Woah, woah)
It's just another manic Monday
Of all my nights
Why did my lover have to pick last night
To get down?
(Last night, last night)
Doesn't it matter
That I have to feed the both of us?
Employment's down
He tells me in his bedroom voice
C'mon honey, let's go make some noise
Time it goes so fast
(When you're having fun)
It's just another manic Monday (Woah, woah)
I wish it was Sunday (Woah, woah)
'Cause that's my fun day (Woah, woah, woah, woah)
My I don't have to run day (Woah, woah)
It's just another manic Monday (Woah, woah)
I wish it was Sunday (Woah, woah, woah, woah)

I have a lot to say about this song. My dad played it constantly when I was a kid. (I’m a millennial born in the early 90’s). I remember laying in bed watching my mom get ready for work and feeling like this song was about her. It seemed so distant at the time and I didn’t know what a lot of the words meant. Here I am at 26 with a full time job and this is basically a weekly feeling lol. It's a great song, also the main vocal melody on the verse is a bit like '1999'
